We went to the beach last week with J.C.'s family, in part to celebrate his parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Fifty years! Fifty! Five-oh! Half a century! Five decades! Not many marriages make it to the golden anniversary these days. It... Continue reading

For Today... Outside my window... the temperature is the same as upstairs in my house. Our air conditioning is out. Sigh. I am thinking... about the insane amount of money it takes to replace an air conditioning unit. Sigh. I... Continue reading

Mer... You guys have been down here enough... I'm sure it is nothing to worry about. I have no idea where it is. They rented the paddle boards about mid-island and were floating toward Morehead. Steph, the storm was crazy fun to watch - great lightning show, but I don't think there was any damage here at all.

Steph, we're at Emerald Isle. The mine field must be somewhere in the sound, it is near some little island. There were signs posted all over saying not to step on the bottom or drop anything there. Crazy, huh? And now we're awaiting a big storm w 70 mph winds, hail, and the chance of tornados. Given how our day has been so far, I'm a little nervous about this storm!!!!

1.Early this morning, my sister-in-law and her boyfriend went out for a 50 mile bike ride. Her wheel got caught in a railroad track, and down she went. She scraped up her hand and knee. 2. A little later in... Continue reading

Definitely the appropriate footwear for today. Actually, when she went to kindergarten "Meet the Teacher" night, it was pouring down rain, and the teacher commented how the boots were so great for the weather. I just shook my head and said, "The weather wasn't a deciding factor. She wears them every day. Rain or shine. Every day." sigh.

Fortunately, JC has impressed upon her that she is NOT under any circumstances allowed to wear them without socks. We're hopeful that cuts down on the stinky foot factor at least a little bit.

The holiday period around Thanksgiving and Christmas is always such a frenzied time with holiday parties, wrapping, shopping, Santa visits, and family gatherings. I have come to the realization though that with school age children, May is just as busy,... Continue reading

Marie, this link has the best pictures to show how it is constructed. It is also called a taco ring. http://shrinkingkitchen.com/pampered-chef-taco-ring/ I don't mix the cheese in with the meat though. That seems weird. I put down the meat, then about half a can of corn, half a can of black beans, and then about a cup of cheese... then close it up. YUM! It is pretty too!

Oh Carey, I'm so jealous! That's how it should be. What my kids have been required to do this year has been absolutely ridiculous!

Jen - love a little snark from a sweet pastor's wife! :) Michele - sorry about the Diet Coke! ;) Audrey - YES! Nina finished yesterday. Elise will be done today. Might as well just end the school year now. I'm sure there is nothing left to teach them now that the test is behind them.

Robin - I've probably gotten at least 10 of those emails about being well rested and to eat breakfast... along with about four with the menu for the free EOG breakfasts. Jodi - definitely. Catharine - ACK! That's awful! Armin - :)

Ideally, it seems to me that for End of Grade tests (EOGs), you would want children who are well-rested, well-fed, on time for school, and prepared but not too anxious or stressed. It really shouldn't feel that different than an... Continue reading

Thanks Jodi. Last night, Elise came in our room after HOURS of practice tests, and said, "I finished all of it except two math ones. I just can't do it any more. I know how to do math." I said, "Then don't. Just stop." She looked at me like I'd lost my mind and said, "Really? You don't care if I don't finish the last two?" I said, "NO! Like you said... you know how to do math. This is ridiculous how much they are making you do to prepare for EOG's. Just quit. Go relax." It is insanity.
