Hence the big, fat, slow guy moving to Tackle. IJS Posted by: 58 Straight | July 12, 2018 at 06:07 PM Ha, HA! Vindication! You kinda "called" this quite awhile ago SOUP. (You and CMR must conference call daily, huh?)

I personally put QB at #2 on the "greatest weakness" scale. (Wisconsin gets by year after year with a mediocre team and QB, but an awesome O-Line.) With OUR "U athletes" in EVERY OTHER position, we would DOMINATE the college FB landscape with a "Wisky-like" O-Line. BANK IT!

The offensive line will eventually come together, once the guards are settled upon. Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | July 11, 2018 at 06:00 PM I SURE HOPE SO... our GREATEST weakness IMO, and the one area that could really hold us back from being a NC team.

The "Greatest Generation" has passed and I see no replacements in sight. I am worried for our Country and our future. Posted by: 86Cane | July 05, 2018 at 12:05 AM Agreed, my Dad would have been 93 TODAY... (WWII Navy Vet.) He passed in '05 but was my golfing buddy for 25 years. They're not making them like him anymore. Sota, so sorry for your loss.

The guy should have been given last rites, carried off the field and tossed in a dumpster for that display. Posted by: Old Skool | July 03, 2018 at 03:54 PM LOL! Absolutely! These guys have no shame!

Gregory Rousseau is going to be beast! He will definitely be playing a lot! Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | July 02, 2018 at 10:49 AM AGREED! The coaches said Rousseau was a MAJOR disruptor during the Spring scrimmages! They had to re-adjust their offensive linemen to try to account for him!

We'll have more than 2 on this list next year!

Terrance/Rob/Roach...we have booked our flights from Orlando to Dallas on Southwest Airlines to arrive on Friday morning early on 8/31 and leave on Tuesday afternoon late on 9/4. Only $265 R/T and bags fly free so that was a bargain. We happy! Posted by: 86Cane | June 24, 2018 at 10:34 PM Great deal Soup! Can’t wait!

NOT good K2. Uh, oh... Maybe just another misunderstanding?

Here's my issue with 5 wide... It's kinda like the wildcat formation. If you ONLY use it very "sparingly," (like in those short yardage 3rd down situations), it's easier to defend, because you KNOW what's coming... and when. If we ONLY go 5 wide on rare occasions, it will be LESS effective than if we use it on a very regular basis, because we can work more plays out of it. If we're going to run an "I/Power" formation as our "standard" formation for 90% of our offense, the 5 wide won't be as effective. (The defense sees it coming, and has more time to prepare for it.) If we run a spread O "more often", it will become more effective, as it's harder for the defense to adjust. While this may seem counterintuitive, (and it very well may be), I just don't see Mr. Conservative OC, (CMR), USING 5 wide ENOUGH for it to be truly effective. I wish I didn't feel this is the case...

"Clinton Portis drank Hennessy with Sean Taylor, Santana Moss before games." From an article in Bleacher Report detailing Portis and Larry Johnson talking about mental health issues. https://tinyurl.com/y88pbm27 Posted by: Old Skool | June 13, 2018 at 03:39 PM Wow. As much as we talk about how "privileged" and "pampered" these guys are... They are truly dealing with some major mental health issues as a result of the pressure, (both physical and mental), that a lifetime of this "football" culture has imposed upon them. It's not ALL about CTE... (That ALONE would be enough to feel for them.) But as this article clearly demonstrates, they are not all equipped to handle the pressure both during, and especially after their playing careers. This is not to say that EVERYONE of us in our own way is under pressure all of the time... (especially high pressure careers such as law enforcement, the military, and emergency responders, to name a few). But, unless you have spent a lifetime in this brutal sport, it's hard to imagine what they are going through, and how each individual is equipped to handle it. Thanks for sharing that article Old Skool.

I could coach and recruit better than Simpson. In the dark and with my eyes closed. IJS Posted by: 86Cane | June 12, 2018 at 07:39 PM I don't doubt it Soup... Didn't you recruit, train, and coach, the great HOFer Henry Hogshead?

Wow, nice piece there by Underwood. I agree RCCF, Simpson hire looking great! I'm looking forward to seeing Rousseau in person at the LSU game! Thanks for sharing BigWindy!

Columbus 2020 three-star defensive lineman Elijah Roberts gave a verbal pledge to the Hurricanes after working out for UM defensive line coach Jess Simpson on Saturday. Let's Go CANES!

Richt better improve on the goal line! We were awful! He always did fade routes with our smallest receivers. Give to the big boys, Richt! It will be interesting to see how he uses the fullback. Can't wait to see the freshman play! Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | May 26, 2018 at 02:08 AM Agree 100%. CMR's goal line AND 3rd-and-short calls just BAFFLE ME! GOTTA IMPROVE! Let's Go CANES!

How does the season turn out with a healthy Walton? Posted by: BEERicane | May 19, 2018 at 06:43 PM Excellent question BEERicane... I saw Walton's loss as one of, if not THE biggest, factors leading to our late season fade. A healthy Walton at THAT point would have taken SO much pressure off of 1) CMR's playcalling, 2) MR's decision making and inaccurate throwing, and 3) an average, tiring, sluggish OL. I guess we'll never know. I wish him all the best in Cincinnati!

Springtime Canes are kickin' butt!
Hmmm... I think I just had a post get eaten... Oh well... try, try again... Thanks again for the info Harry. I'm DEFINITELY going to work on scheduling a "guided" stadium tour when we're out there. Nice hearing about Lingard burning it up at the ACC Track & Field Championships... Dude looks ripped! Also, always good to hear about new recruits signing on, (the Safety Smith flipping from UK.) Just wish we'd hear a LOT MORE about BIG DOG LINEMEN!!!

Take the tour and make sure you do the guided tour. The information you get is amazing. Posted by: Harry Miller | May 12, 2018 at 11:27 PM Thanks Harry, that confirms what my friend who went out there last year told me. I am definitely going to try to schedule a tour during our time there for the LSU game. (Possibly with our group of Soup, Terrance, and families if they're up for it.) Can I ask how long the guided tour lasted, and what times they run them? Thanks. Hope to see you out there! And Happy Mother's Day to all of the Cane Mothers out there!

I will be in Arlington next week, think I will go by the stadium and take the tour that they provide. Take a few photos. Check the place out. Posted by: Harry Miller | May 02, 2018 at 06:42 PM Harry that would be great! Let us know what you think. I was told by a colleague that the tour was really great, and worth the cost. More feedback would be helpful.
