I know summer doesn't technically begin until June 21, but if you work at a university, you know that after graduation, summer (aka "me time") is on. Time to plant a garden! It's fortunate that, at least in Florida, spring commencement coincides with some pretty gorgeous weather. I celebrate by... Continue reading

It's final exams week, and since this is Florida, that means it's time to get to the beach! I grew up in Melbourne, and my family spent lots of summer days at the ocean, getting sunburned and water-logged. Paradise Beach, in fact, now owns at least one pair of my... Continue reading

Librarians' jobs are about a diverse bunch of things, but each of us is driven to connect people to the information that they need to be smarter, more confident contributors to academia, or society, or their families, or their communities... you get the picture. Continue reading

Happy National Library Week! Being on the inside edge, I know that most librarians advocate for some sort of socially conscious issue when they're off the clock being normal people (and when we're on it, lots of times). I have a few myself, and I won't chuck all of them... Continue reading

The essay I submitted to the FACRL (that's the Florida Association of College and Research Libraries, to you and me) Fall Program student scholarship competition was accepted - how exciting! Since my presentation is about making the academic library an inviting, human place by sharing librarians' life experience through blogs... Continue reading

I'm back from FACRL Fall Program and gearing up for a regular Sunday of homework and internship. The student panel was well-received, we even had a few questions and comments, which makes me think we might have spouted something interesting. The best part of presenting, besides being chosen in the... Continue reading

Happy National Library Week! I had a fantastic opportunity to see and hear Henry Rollins at last week’s Association of College and Research Libraries conference (80 non-stop minutes of pure keynote adrenaline), and wanted to share his story of visiting the Library of Congress with Ian MacKaye a couple of... Happy National Library Week! When I’m not teaching students about the wonders of library research or researching the habits of highly successful students myself, I’m usually at home cooking. My favorite cookbook these days is this one: America's Test Kitchen. (2004). The new best recipe. Brookline, Mass: America's test Kitchen.... Continue reading

Though this blog makes me appear to have fallen off the face of earth sometime last year, in actuality I have just finished my first month of librarianship at Florida Institute of Technology's Evans Library. Stay tuned. Continue reading
