Can you picture this? (Photo Credit: Jamie Squire/Eric Hartline - USA Today) If what Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter are reporting is true, recently fired Eagles head coach Andy Reid will have been unemployed for three days. ESPN's insiders tweeted that Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are on the "verge of a deal" that would make him their next head coach. As you can see above, it would give a whole new meaning to the term "Big Red."... heh. No deal has been announced as of yet, and there is some water being thrown on the fire in the... (Photo: Sports Card Forum) It "started" with a seemingly bogus report from CBS 4's Steve Burton in Boston: WBZ's Steve Burton reports that a deal to save the #nhl season could be announcement tomorrow or Wednesday- @joegiza — WBZ Boston Sports (@wbzsports) December 3, 2012 Despite Bill Daly refuting the report rather quickly, here we sit two days later with assorted shreds of optimism that the NHL Lockout may be coming to an end. Whether or not Burton truly has the inside track regarding the progression of talks is beyond me, but I'm not really here to delve into it... Continue reading

Donovan's gonna find his way into your living room... whether you like it or not. No, not that kind of job. Former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb could be hired soon, but it wouldn't be a football team doing the hiring. Via Sports Business Journal's Liz Mullen: SBJ: Veteran #NFL QB Donovan McNabb has signed with agent Mark Lepselter for broadcast work & is close to agreeing to a network job. — Liz Mullen (@SBJLizMullen) September 3, 2012 McNabb said earlier this summer on NBC SportsTalk that he had "about three teams that I'm looking at", but no team at any... (Photo: Rick Shultz/Getty Images) He will be missed. Jon Morosi from FOX Sports is reporting that Juan Pierre has cleared waivers. #Phillies OF Juan Pierre has cleared trade waivers, source tells FOXSports.com. Could be dealt by midnight tonight. — Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) August 31, 2012 Why is midnight tonight relevant? Pierre will be able to play in the postseason if he's traded by then. Because he's useful to a potential contender, there's a decent chance he'll be dealt. Pierre, 35, is batting .300 for the Phillies with 32 stolen bases and 22 RBI, but's his .343 on-base percentage that likely... Continue reading

(Courtesy: Reading Eagle) And he did it with a monster August. Coming into the month, Reading Phillies slugger Darin Ruf had 18 homers spanning April to July. Last night, he hit his 20th home run in the month of August alone, which was what he needed to surpass Ryan Howard's record in a Reading uniform. With 38 homers in total, Ruf is Reading's new home run king. Even before he broke the record, he caught the eye of Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. Via Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly: “Ruf’s had a big year,” said Manuel, who has always had a... Continue reading

Andy Reid is signed on to be the Eagles coach through 2013, but if there is anything that came out of Jeff Lurie's State of the Team Address today, it's that Andy Reid isn't a lock to be the Head Coach of the Eagles in 2013. Simply, Lurie implied that it all depends on how his 2012 shakes out. When asked by reporters about Andy Reid's status, Lurie made it clear that nothing is guaranteed after this upcoming season, even in light of the tragic events in Reid's personal life. "This is a business, and you're there to win and... Continue reading

Video is fixed. (Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia) Tell me if you've heard this one before... Jimmy Rollins didn't hustle again. This time, Charlie Manuel did something about it during the game. Jimmy Rollins has been pulled from the game after not hustling on that pop up. Michael Martinez has moved to SS, Laynce Nix to RF. — Todd Zolecki (@ToddZolecki) August 30, 2012 As you can see in the video, there's a good chance J-Roll's actions cost the Phils a run. Just two weeks ago, in Miami, he got heat for not running out a play against the Marlins. The dude... Continue reading

A smirk that could piss off any hockey fan. As the September 15 deadline lingers, the NHL put out the 2012-13 national television schedule. As Travis Hughes of Broad Street Hockey points out, the Flyers have 25 games on the U.S. schedule. Because I'm fairly confident the NHL won't begin until mid-December or so (the NHL won't put the Winter Classic in jeopardy), I'm putting the over/under at 15. Yeah, the NHL needs to conduct business as usual, but is anyone really trying to hear this right now? Especially considering that the chances that a good number of these games... Continue reading

This will be Lurie's second attempt this preseason (Photo: LehighValleyLive.com) Let's try this again. Eagles owner Jeff Lurie will address the media today before tonight's final preseason game against the New York Jets at Lincoln Financial Field. Initially, Lurie scheduled the State of the Eagles address earlier this month at Lehigh University during training camp. It was canceled because Andy Reid's son, Garrett, was found dead that same morning. As the Inquirer's Jeff McLane notes, the content of the address could be more interesting than usual, given the owner's personal offseason. The Eagles announced the Luries' split on July 4.... (Photo: DelCo Times) Fine, he isn't an asshole. More on that in a second. Vance Worley's season has come to an end after the Phillies announced Tuesday that he'll be shut down to get surgery on his right elbow. Every beat writer in the world mentioned the surgery will take place in the next seven to ten days. I'll give Worley credit. He never made any excuses, but it's been clear in his most recent starts that something wasn't right. And yes, he was cleared and trainers told Charlie Manuel that he was fine, but there comes a point when... Continue reading

Vick won't get hurt now, because the CEO of a three-year old company says so. (Photo: USA Today) You don't know who Rob Vito is, but you will by the time you're done reading this. We've already told you that Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will use thicker rib protection this season after suffering an injury in the team's second preseason game. Now, the man behind the company that provides that protection is making a bold statement. Unequal Technologies CEO Rob Vito has guaranteed that Michael Vick "will not get hurt" with the new protection. It's a bold, ballsy, and fairly... Continue reading

He's pitching like someone who should wear this uniform. (Photo: Phuture Phillies) Look... I understand the Phillies are 10 games back with 33 games to go. I get it when ESPN tells me that their playoff chances are 0.1 percent... those aren't very good odds. But there's still a reason to watch, and Phillies fans will hold on to any hope so long as there is a chance, and I'm a part of that contingent of folks. Going into Tuesday night, they won four in a row including a sweep of the best team in the league the team with... Continue reading

Convenient... he'll be easy to crop out. (Photo: Morning Call) Mike Kafka's preseason has been less than promising. After fracturing his hand in the August 9th preseason game against the Steelers, Kafka hasn't been able to get back on the field. Combined with Mike Vick's rib injury, it's been nohing but Nick Foles and Trent Edwards behind center. Andy Reid's spoke to the media earlier, and his comments today suggest Thursday's game against the Jets will be more of the same. Foles will start and play one quarter. Edwards will play last 3. — Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) August 28, 2012... Continue reading

Lockout beard? (Photo: Getty Images) If you're a hockey fan, you're clearly aware that there's very little optimism about a new Collective Bargaining Agreement on or prior to September 15th. Now, someone who has been very involved in the negotiation process is considering his options if a conclusion isn't soon reached. According to Teemu H (@EuroFlyers), recently extended Flyers Forward Scott Hartnell has reportedly contacted the General Manager of Kalpa, a professional hockey team based out of Finland playing in the SM-liiga: Kalpa GM says Scott Hartnell has inquired about an opportunity to play for Kalpa if there's a lockout... (Photo: MKRob) This news was reported moments ago by the Inquirer'seff McLane. One of the best running backs to ever wear midnight green, some would say the best, will retire as a Philadelphia Eagle tomorrow. More from McLane: Westbrook will be made available to media tomorrow at 11:30 at the NovaCare. In addition, Westbrook will be honored Dec. 23 during halftime. — Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) August 28, 2012 That December 23rd game will be against the Washington Redskins at the Linc. This solves everything! (Photo: TakingIt2TheHouse) After last week's injury, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will wear a thicker rib protector as a precautionary measure moving forward, according to Philadelphia Magazine's Tim McManus. Vick took a shot from the helmet of Patriots linebacker Jermaine Cunningham in last Monday's game against the Patriots. Although all tests came back negative, it was enough to keep him out of Friday's preseason game against the Browns. (By the way, I don't get playing teams in the preseason that you'll see in the regular season, especially in the opener, but whatever.) Unequal Technologies is the maker of... Continue reading

(Photo: Barbara Popek) First, Penn State made the decision to make slight alterations to the current uniforms. For the first time in history, names of the players will be featured on the back of the jerseys. Now, another change is being made in light of the recent events at Penn State. The school will discontinue its use of "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond, namely because of the lyrics in the song. Sounds kind of odd to nix a Neil song for lyrical content, but considering the sensitivity surrounding PSU, there is one lyric that could potentially ruffle feathers, and the... Continue reading

Is the bobblehead worth the drive? Probably. (Photo: rphils.com) The Reading Phillies are paying tribute to Harry Kalas and their major league counterpart's two World Series teams tonight... certainly an honorable thing to do. They're also having a Kalas impersonation contest with the winner spending an inning on Reading Phillies radio. To win... your Harry the K impression will likely have to be better than the God-awful ones the team displayed in the promotional video for tonight's festivities. If you just sat through all 90 seconds of that, you're probably like me... sobbing and shaking in a corner... only difference... Continue reading
