I love pencil drawings as a starting point for my ideas. Then I just go from there. My sketchbook is getting full, time to take some of these drawings and work on them in photoshop. Then what happens? Fabric will be woven, inlay incorporated, images printed on fabric, then to... Continue reading

Oh the cross will move up as I beam on the warp to the back beam . So after that is done the cross will be above my heddles so I can see it and thread off of it to the heddles and then thru the reed. I know what you mean about info for warping this loom. There is nothing out there really. I looked at the one picture Tommye at on her page too. She had her raddle up much higher but I found that was too difficult for me to reach. I'll post more pics later. I got caught up doing other things so I still have to finish up. I'm going to tie jugs of water to the warp to tension it for beaming. I'll try and document the process. :)

Pass by pass it grows. The colors are showing much more true and vibrant in my Flickr upload. I might have to start linking to my Flickr for the best picture quality. I'm really enjoying the color mixing and how the tapestry is glowing in real life. Pics just don't... Continue reading

Getting ready for 2013. Warping the Fireside Tapestry Loom which has been nicknamed Smokey. A few pics of the process so far. I'll have enough warp for 3 tapestries which will keep me busy for a very long time. 36" weaving width at 10 epi. I'm also building another Archie... Continue reading

Hi Rebecca I have a big Varpapuu floor loom that I have a tapestry on but it's really bothering my neck looking down so much so I'm going to build a black pipe loom using Archie Brennan's plans and move it to that loom. Sounds crazy but I think I can do it. I've discovered that I can weave much longer on a vertical loom for tapestry than on a floor loom without neck, shoulder and back pain. I love the tapestries that you weave on your floor loom but I do see that you have fixed up a Leclerc Gobelin Tapestry loom recently. Are you going vertical too?

Hi JoHanna thanks so much for your kind remarks. I taught tapestry when I was in Bozeman. I'm hoping to get set up to teach again in my studio/home. Wish you lived closer too. We could hang out and weave tapestry. :)

Hi Gail thanks. Yes you are right about the bobbin mixing. Some of them have the same colors but then I step up or down with the other tones to make the gradations of color. Like with the golds etc. I'm very happy with my progress so far and hope to have her done early 2013. I think every yarn is my hand dyed so far which makes me very happy.

I've gotten a couple of good quality chunks of time to work on my tapestry over the Holiday. I hope to get even more done this weekend if all goes well. Here are a few new shots. Continue reading

Detail of the sky blending. Figure in shadow is done. Using the Gobelin Style leashes. I rather like them. I thought I would prefer to have treadles but they are simple to use and work well. If I'm in a small detail area only going over a few warps I... Continue reading

I want to do a tapestry of water. I've been photographing water for months. Today I got the shot I've been waiting for at the Park. It's when the sun hits just right and you get Liquid Gold. I've seen this happen a few times at the park but I... Continue reading

Hi Diane it was very nice to meet you too. Everyone was so friendly. I'm so glad I found your group. I look forward to our next meeting and thanks for the help with the directions coming home. It was a much better route. I hope you made it ok thru Storm Sandy. We lost power but we are back up and doing well now.

Working on the small tapestry and the larger one. I have to admit when I go back to the larger one it feels so much easier than working on the 22 epi peice. It's hard on the eyes. I'm working on the figure now in the larger piece. I'm really... Continue reading

Remember the little bird tapestry. Well, it's almost done. This was my first tapestry after being away from weaving for over ten years. It was a good exercise to help get me back to tapestry weaving. Woven on my Mirrix Big Sister at 14 epi. I learned or re-learned a... Continue reading

Remember when I made this little Archie Brennan Copper Tapestry Loom. Plans for his looms can be found here. Well, I finally got a warp on it. Not just any warp, but the finest tapestry warp(sett) that I have ever done. 22 epi (ends per inch). Yep, I'm going to... Continue reading

This summer I got a screaming deal on a Ashford Loom off of Craig's List. I just had to do some simple repairs. The lease bar was warped so I added a copper one. The wood blocks that hold that bar in place were missing so I made 2 of... Continue reading
