These do look fantastic. I served up an Italian risotto from a box the other night - someone had given it to me and I ran out of arborio. I wasn't that keen but my family said it was the best I'd ever cooked...which just goes to show.

Hard though it is to type these words, type them I must: Nigel Slater's new fruit book, the second volume of his seductively presented Tender series, was a disappointment. When it arrived, I fell upon it, hungry for his words, his food, for him, but there's some beat I've missed in his writing...
