Growing Cole plants in hot valley areas in fall is reliable. In spring, it takes very good timing and requires a careful watch to be sure the plants don't go to flowers and seed with early season heat waves. In both fall and spring, I strongly suggest starting with transplants by planting seeds indoors 6 weeks ahead. ie August 1st and January 15th. If you must try to grow them use a fine net over the top and keep ants out of your garden as they will carry aphids to the crop. Continue »
