While reading, she came across a word She had seen before Perhaps even heard it used in conversation but didn't yet have the confidence to pronounce it out loud. Neither was she sure of its definition. Aware of several sources to consult- she decisively waited instead to happen upon it in context Knowing this was the only genuine way to learn its meaning or what it meant to her or how she would use it in a sentence The word itself revealed its origins-- Irish. and unveiled new uses that leant toward meaning. And every letter --another clue that the... Continue reading

You reach down with your measuring cup and you realize you're scraping the bottom of the bag of flour. You barely have enough to make the pancake that was supposed to get you through the day. Then all of a sudden some do-gooder comes by and knocks on your door holding a entire quart of whole-wheat goodness. That means you get to make your pancake and invite your neighbor over for breakfast who has been eating bran flakes for about a week now. Encouragement-- that flower watering, overall wearing grandpa's wave sunshine a letter Word a voice mail a text message... Continue reading

It is a blessing but the extra time can easily be turned into a curse depending on how I choose to use it. Supposedly I'm in transition. Transitioning right now feels an awful lot like idling. Certainly, I've had to take a different angle when approaching the concept of progress. In terms quantitative or measurable progress (school, work, money, projects, etc.) very little progress is being made. If I choose to base my own self-worth or happiness or mental stability in this type of progress, well, I'm a worthless, sad lunatic. But- there's a lot of progress going on in... Continue reading

My default song (the song that randomly starts playing in my head most often when not much of anything is happening in this brain of mine) is "Fly Like An Eagle" by The Steve Miller Band. dodo dooodooo. I don't even particularly enjoy this song. I can't control it! It just gets stuck roaming around my head. Sometimes I wake up and the first thing I hear is "I wanna fly like an eagle." Sounds inspiring, but I'm usually just thinking "where does that song keep coming from?" Fllly right through the revolution! That was nothing you needed to know,... Continue reading

I met my friend Meli for lunch today. It was so good to see her. She is such a committed friend. We ate at Olive Garden - my first minestrone experience but certainly not the last! Then I was able to meet up with Emily and we drank some coffee and listened to music in my car and we said our goodbyes. Then I rode off into the sunset in Boaz, my Corolla. This sunset was breathtaking. Really, pictures of canyons, mountains, sunsets....what's the point? "There's nothing like the real thing, baby." Do you know what I mean? Pictures never... I just really like this picture of my parents. This is life before kids. I have to say, dad's looking pretty cool with the hat and the stache going on. They've been married for about 26? years. I'm so thankful to have good parents. They're certainly had rough times in life but they've shown me that love stays -for poor or for poorer, in sickness and in sickerness. :) Continue reading

I've had the craziest dreams lately. You know how people will be telling you their dream and you zone out because they don't really remember it quite well and it doesn't really make sense.......but you just say, "whooaaa that's weird. hmm" Yes, well. I'm not going to tell you the dreams because they don't make sense. But there is this one that presents itself in different ways but basically my Grandpa Larry is either coming back to life or dying. I do miss him. I wonder if it means anything particular. I'm not going to worry about it or anything-whatever.... Continue reading

My hall and my sister hall had a "bake off". Basically, it was intended to build community between the halls. Girls were paired up according to room number. Unfortunately, everyone was too busy to help make the cupcakes so I did it by myself...which was sort of a bummer but sort of not since I love love love baking anyway. Always resist the temptation to get all "Little Red Hen" on everybody. Nobody liked her. Tadah! Lemon cupcakes with lemon raspberry icing. All homemade, not artificial flavors or colors. Super healthy...errr... Well, they won the bake off anyway. Requests for... Continue reading

**disclaimer- the people I have alluded to (quite explicitly) in this post are not at all at fault for the negative developments in my life. You have to make a choice on how people "make" you feel right? So you know when you have something floating around in your mind for a while and you finally sum it all up and it makes some sort of spiritual connection in your brain and heart? Yes, well...I just had that. Lightbulb....illuminating my weaknesses. I feel the most comfortable around people with which I feel no need to compete. I've had some of... Continue reading

I am in love with the stillness of this morning. It's 6:38 right now and I have been up for over an hour. I went to bed fairly early last night, because despite some great circumstances (talking to some best friends, good news, an encouraging letter, a good chapel, a good workout) i felt so defeated (embarrassed ,ugly, overwhelmed, stupid). I think it was all in my head, but I couldn't keep it there. but today is new, and there is snow falling outside and it's still dark, so I'm going to go drink my coffee and read a little... Yesterday I thrifted a little bit and found some neat whatnots. This orange fondu-looking pot was 99 cents....featuring wooden handle. haha. Love it. Also....headband was made out of a handkerchief that was also 99 cents. I'm listening to this lady tonight: Oh, happy valentines day! Not a sad day- "Singles awareness day" or whatever is so silly. Let's enjoy anyway, right? love love love. Continue reading

Six things I loved when I was six: swinging. Who didn't love swinging? Also the best time for singing. Making up your own songs. Looking past your legs at the sky that you barely missed jumping right into before your descent. Talking Mini Mouse Watch That's right. It talked. This was one of the best birthday gifts ever. I ended up breaking her mouth and she didn't speak very well after that. Frog and Toad books Simple and adorable. Moon Boots I distinctly remember my mother saying "I hope these are still in fashion when you get married, because I... Continue reading

"An evil man is help captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness." Prov. 5:22-23 I've been meditating on this a lot the last few days. I know that most of my struggles are due to "lack of self-control" and therefore I am help captive by my own sin. I know the freedom is so much better but I forget it so easily. In other news.....I have no other news. But I do have this video that you should... Continue reading

I was walking to breakfast today and I was thinking about the blessing of a new day. (yesterday did not go like I wanted....I certainly didn't employ discipline very much or very often) Then, I passed three trees. In the first tree was a woodpecker in the second was a cardinal in the third was a blue bird truly beautiful. truly a blessing. Then I went to breakfast and talked to my roommate Kylee and her boy Joe. And I ate Raisin Bran, which is the only cereal that I was allowed to eat as a kid. Back then, I... Continue reading
