The last two weeks we have been in recovery mode, from a major labor of love. When we were expecting the birth of our children, there was a lot of prep work and some anxiousness over the labor and delivery... Continue reading

I've been home for over two weeks, and am still smiling. I have long admired the work of DJ Pettitt and was quick to sign up for a workshop that Cindy happened to discover. Oh my, the inspiration, creativity and... Continue reading

I've been giving lots of thought to my blog, and wondering what it means to me. I'm certain that in the beginning it was something else, and then somewhere along the way something happened, things changed. I've come to realize... Continue reading

The clutter in my brain is clearing, unlike today's fog. It made for a beautiful walk, so peaceful and with limited distractions. The birdsong sounded pure and delightful. But before my walk, my day started with this: Years ago, I... Continue reading

I'm sitting on the porch and listening to music drift through the screen door, amazed at the blue skies, fluffy clouds and mild temperatures. It is a soothing balm to my day. The corners of my brain have been cluttered... Continue reading

We've had a variety of chicken breeds over the years, and my favorite breed is the Barred Rock. They have black and white stripes and are very calm and will follow you around like a shadow, and easy to catch. They are good layers, too, nice brown eggs. Ameraucana's have beautiful blue/green eggs, but are a bit more suspicious of people and other animals. A rooster is good to have if the chickens will free-range, but they will terrorize anything and everyone that enters their 'zone of patrol'. Roosters have made for lots of funny memories for my girls, but they still tell the stories with a tremble in their voice! NEVER more than one rooster, just sayin'. Chickens do something for the soul, you should totally get some in the spring, but order from a hatchery or get from a mom and pop feed store, that will order for you. Can't wait to hear the adventures!

A friend asked me to make a denim quilt with the Texas flag on the front and old jeans for the backing. This was the only excuse I needed to go fabric shopping in my husbands closet and rid it... Continue reading

You wouldn't know by the weather here, as it seems to be unchanging, but the seasons of life seem to be shifting for me. My job as mom will never end, but it has certainly taken on new light with... Continue reading

Trying to get a good photo in the bright Texas sun and whipping winds is crazy. This is my top from the Round Robin project through the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild. I made the center block and it was then... Continue reading

We had a milestone birthday this week, and there was NO interest in a big party or celebration drawing attention to it. So a quiet dinner at home with the girls in his life was the request, along with my... Continue reading

It's overwhelming to think about it all at one time, but day by day, we made it through S.'s final days of high school. First there was prom. Then there was graduation. The very next day, paint roller in hand,... Continue reading

I haven't been able to leave the stack of old blocks alone. It's so fun to play around with setting fabric, especially when I have no attachment or vision for what they should be. Figuring a layout on the designs... Continue reading

This has been a week of missed exits, thoughts and ideas. My thoughts have been all a jumble and my attention span even worse. I think it is the pressure of graduation preparations that someone has no interest in participating... Continue reading

In my frustration to find something to prepare for dinner, I realized the chaos in my recipe box. No organization what-so-ever. Recipes on cards, torn from boxes, printed from the computer, and jotted on notepads. As I started sorting, no... Continue reading

S. asked me the other day "Why are the roses the only thing living in the garden?" "Well, I happen to love antique roses. They are known for surviving through years of neglect, I just didn't expect the neglect to... Continue reading

In more ways than one. I'm working on several small projects and enjoying them. I'll try and share some of them soon, but what I really want to share is my Folk Basket quilt! Here's a peak. I love the... Continue reading

I work best with a deadline, it's my idea of procrastination. I have really been trying to change this about myself, knowing that I can enjoy the finished project a bit before it moves on. That being said, I forced... Continue reading

I guess if we ever leave Texas and head to Colorado for a visit, I'll have to dream up some story to cover my accent as well. Too funny! I was recently caught up in "Crazy for the Storm", I'll be checking out your list soon. Love the painting bunting on the journal pages :)
My sidekick, Jeffery, thinks that sunshine is best enjoyed when laying in it. I have not been able to be lured outside quite so easily though. I am finding that I enjoy the sunshine just as much when I am... Continue reading
