Every now and then I like to make a quick list of some simple things that are going on in my life at the moment. It's a nice thing to be able to look back at years later. I might remember big things that happen in my life, but small things like this get lost amidst the mess. (This was actually written last night, but since who knows when you'll read this, I count it as still valid.) currently: drinking: Diet Dr Pepper from Sonic (thank you Danny) watching: Cosplay Melee. Expedition Unknown is up next. feeling: worried reading: Notes... Continue reading

I am still doing 1 second every day! And since June just finished, that means I now have half of 2017 in a 3 minute movie. I tend to think this has been a kinda crap year, but watching this makes me really happy so I guess it hasn't been too bad. I do have a bad habit of not recording anything at all when I'm doing some of the best stuff. Visits with friends and family or doing anything super fun - I forget all about capturing some of it. I want to work on that a little bit.... Continue reading

Well I say "just back" but honestly we got home on Tuesday. It's just taken me that long to get it together enough to write and share this. I think I'm finally glad to be back. In case you didn't know, I was at a family reunion in the mountains of Colorado. I have learned that 130 people from the same family spending a week together on a regular basis is a little unusual, but this is the family I came from so it really shouldn't surprise anyone. We've been doing this since 1977, although we've had to change locations... Continue reading

I have never been very good at sticking with things, but 1secondevery day is just so fun I'm still doing it. Here are a few second of May from my point of view. Every 3 years, my extended family gets together in the mountains of Colorado for a week long family reunion. This is the magic year, and the week starts at the end of this month! That means it’s time to get the planning into high gear and start getting ready. I’ve already started of course. Road trips take a little extra planning, and I’m not very familiar with the place we’re going (we’ve gone there once, at the last reunion 3 years ago). Making any trip longer than it started out is my super power. So with the blessings of Danny... Continue reading

I have a serious, grade school style crush oh Josh Gates. Apparently he has been on the TV for a long time, but I haven't had cable for even longer so he's brand new to me. And I love him. /Swoon Continue reading

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything and that always makes me feel weird about posting again. Shouldn’t I explain a very sold excuse about why I haven’t posted and shouldn't it also be a post so great that I had to rush off and write it? Well no of course not, but I get hung up sometimes. I’ve learned over the years the best way to get back into is to just jump. April is almost over and I couldn’t be more glad. April is my most crazy month. There are the car tags to renew because... The first quarter of 2017 is behind us, and I am happy to still be capturing a second of my life pretty much every day. Sometimes I share them on Instagram and sometimes I don't. It's one thing to remember to take some video every day, actually compiling and posting them ever week is a bit more than I'm up for. I think the longer compilations are more fun to watch, anyway. Three months seems like a nice chunk to break off and show you. I also smashed together this very nice chunk. It's too soon to tell, but it... Continue reading

This weekend was so cold, and so gray (just like last weekend!), I spent a lot of time under the covers in my bed, or under a blanket on my couch, watching way too much YouTube. I thought I'd share some. It started innocently, with a search for cat videos that might make me laugh. Compilation of Cats Being Jerks And Knocking Things Over And then I thought if was going to waste time watching tv, I'd watch something that would teach as well as distract me. A glimpse of teenage life in ancient Rome Four sisters in Ancient Rome... Continue reading

Last Sunday night I was talking to my mom and she told me she'd be in Kansas City Monday morning. She asked if I wanted to drive in to see her. Where she was headed was about 35 minutes away. She lives 2 and a half hours away, so of course I did. Monday morning I talked to my mom, then I talked to my brother while I was getting ready, and then talked to Hannah for the drive in. When I told her I was going to meet Grandma in Olathe, she pointed out it was probably close to... Continue reading

Well hello people! I just got back from a very lovely and relaxing cruise through the Caribbean, with a bonus trip to Orlando to see some of my people to cap it off. It was fantastic and even though it might seem like I've already told everyone all about it on my Facebook while it was happening, I haven't. And I'm going to tell you more, starting right here. So the cruise was a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise with Royal Caribbean. On the Oasis, which isn't their biggest ship, but is insanely big. There were over 6 thousand people... Continue reading

I have been looking for a new couch I could love for years. When we started to change the rooms on our main floor last December, the search started to get serious. I pretty much knew what I wanted all along. These are the three big contenders over the years that just never made it into my living room. The one on the far right almost made it. I had pretty much decided to go pick it up as soon as it worked out for Alan to bring the old truck to help me cart it. Two Wednesdays ago, Hannah... Continue reading

Last year, around 9 or 10 months in, I started to fail a bit in my 1secondeveryday consistency. I don't want to do that this year, so I decided to start posting smaller bits of time on my instagram (@shellycentral). I think that will help keep it in my mind. I thought I'd show you my first 4 weeks, in 3 posts, over here. When I'm smarter, I'll upload these without the sound. I find it distracting when you're just getting a one second clip, shoved together with a bunch of other one second clips so I'm sorry to do... Continue reading

Remember last fall when I had to go to a funeral in Louisiana? Yeah that was sad. But here's one thing about it that's not super sad - it was in the city of Lafayette - named for my hero and yours, Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, Marquis de La Fayette. Or just Lafayette if you're singing some Hamilton. One morning, on my way to the local Target for some room freshener, I drove past this. Of course I couldn't tell from the road, but on my way back I pulled over to check, and... Continue reading

This is my mom, happy in Cozumel. I know I went on a trip a couple months ago and didn't tell you guys anything about it, and that's not good (* see below). But it's time for me to get excited about the next one! I went on my first cruise about a year ago. A cruise had never been in my plans, but when my mom asked me to go with her (and my brother and his girlfriend) I didn't want to say no. I was unsure how it would go, but I promised Danny that if I liked... Continue reading

2016 is over. That probably gives you all kinds of thoughts and feels. One thing about it is that for all of us doing 1 second every day last year, we've got a finished product. I was far from perfect with this project - but I kept trying and I'm so glad I did. I LOVE IT!! Take a look. I found out just the other day that I could have cheated for the days I missed! There were several ways to add clips from the wrong day which wow would have made such a difference, and I think that's... Continue reading

It’s been over 2 months since I posted anything here. I feel like I should address this, but I also feel as a blog reader I’m never interested in posts talking about how the writer is sorry they haven't posted or talk about why someone hasn’t posted for a long time. So, you know, life. We all have one. It happens. Here's a catch up about mine, with photos of course. I knew I was going to be out of the state on election day, so on the first day it was possible, I drove downtown with Danny and Hannah... Continue reading

Last week I was in Louisiana for about the worst reason you can ever have to go out of town. My dad’s brother, my favorite uncle and my godfather passed away. He was an incredible man who lived a great life and I love him very much. I can’t really talk much about it or him yet, but I hope that I will soon. Right now, I’m going to just tell you a little about the trip. I picked up a rental car on Saturday morning. They said I'd get a Kia Rio, or something similar. The Kia wasn't there... If you're my friend on Facebook, you may have noticed I am struggling with the tragedy of my country right now. If you follow me on Twitter you probably think I've lost my mind. But the world is a harsh place right now, and I am a sensitive girl. There is a part of my mind that is constantly shouting out me to freak out. Constantly. To do nothing but shout and scream about these things. And to ignore everything but this. I am often convinced that this is the only answer and I should ignore everything else in my...
