Festejos Patronales in our neighborhood officially begins today. The neighborhood has been preparing for the festival all week. This year I missed the tamale making but was able to go help for a bit yesterday. If you're in the area stop by for a delicious meal and take some tamales... Continue reading

Hola Caroline! Im not sure where to find an starter kit in Escazu but you might try checking with people at Feria Verde Aranjuez. Its on Saturday mornings. Or at the Green Center. Its not that hard to made a starter yourself. I found all kinds of info on Google.

We've settled into rainy season. Some days it rains in the afternoon. Some days all day. Others, not at all. This is why it's called the green season! The greens pop with the blue sky. So pretty after the rain. Roads flooded, cars stuck in ditches. Even transitos (traffic police)!... Continue reading

Has it been that long Paul? Time gets away from me. All is good we're just busy living life. And sampling all the sweets along the way. It's getting harder and harder to sit down and do blog posts. Got a million thoughts floating in my head but no time to get them written. I'm starting to use devices other than the desktop, tablet, smartthanme phone, etc. I'm not ready to type posts on a teeny tiny keypad yet! Things are settling down around here (she types hopefully) so I'll get some posts up soon.

A sweet adventure was on our mind when we drove up to Finca Luna Nueva for their chocolate tour. Our mission was to make chocolate, bean to bar! Making chocolate with hubby and my daughter at this beautiful place... awesome! After chocolate, a delicious lunch! Family fun, good food, beautiful... Continue reading

Just as the rain started I took a walk outside and got a wonderful surprise. A hummingbird shared his joy with me. It was amazing to watch how happy he was playing in the rain. Pure joy! Continue reading

Honestly, I have no idea what kind of mushroom this is. What ever it is, there is no way I'm going to eat it. When exposed to the sun they get well... burnt. This one looked cooked so I brought it home for more investigation. After further investigation, no matter... Continue reading

Heavy rains the past few days have brought out the mushrooms. High in the tree tops one can see these white, coral looking type of shroom sprouting. The mushroom above fascinates me. We first discovered it last year. It grows around the roots of a pine tree. Boletus pinophilus would... Continue reading

Rainy season got a late start, for us it began in June. Our favorite time of year has arrived. The views around the property change from day to day, sometimes moment to moment. Continue reading

Playa Camaronal~ sorry, but you didn't make the cut. Some beaches, for whatever reason don't make the family favorite list. When this is the first thing you see as your feet hit the sand, you might want to rethink your boogie boarding location. Rip tides are SERIOUS in Costa Rica... Continue reading

I'm happy to report the lettuce wraps at P.F.Chang's Costa Rica taste exactly like what we remember. If you go anytime soon be warned, Avenida Escazu is under construction... again. *Sigh* Callista and I visited the restaurant a few months ago. She felt guilty for going without her dad, even... On my son's recent vacation we decided to visit a different Costa Rican Beach, Playa Carrillo. It quickly became our new favorite beach. A four hour drive from home, we won't be making day trips any time soon but I'm looking forward to going back before too long. I've already... Continue reading

Just outside San Ramon proper on the way to Pieadades Sur, Eco-Musas Waterpark provided hours of fun for our family recently. Craig, Callista, Kelsey and I showed up on a Monday and learned it's the only day of the week they're closed. We got lucky and ran into the gardener... Continue reading

Sorry it took so long to respond Adan. It's past harvest time at my house but I do know of people who do have turmeric available. If you're interested send me an email.

Orchid season has come and gone for the most part around our yard. Here's a sample of what we enjoyed this year. The lluvia de oro were bursting out of the trees for weeks. The one above gifted us with four beautiful flowers this year. Our spiders gave us two... Continue reading

Red-legged honeycreeper seen at the local waterpark recently. Mr. Honeycreeper keeping watch. Mrs. Honeycreeper keeping the nest. She's hard to see but in the first pic you can see her looking out at me. Mama honeycreeper tucked into her nest. Great place with food so close. Continue reading

This was our first visit to the nearby Lands in Love Hotel & Resort. We've driven past it countless times and have even made a habit of stopping at their roadside restaurant for giant chocolate chip cookies. Still we had't been "inside" the resort. Last week we decided to have... Continue reading
