Halloween isn't a traditional holiday in Costa Rica thus the ridiculous price of pumpkins found at Walmart earlier this week. No trick! No treat either! Yes, you can have a cindirella pumpkin for 13, 970 colones, $25.29 at today's exchange rate. Since moving here over ten years ago we've seen... Continue reading

A flock of white fronted parrots has been coming around the house lately. These birds love to chatter. It's been rather loud in the early mornings with the young birds calling out to the adults who are teaching them stretch their wings. Continue reading

Volcan Turrialba is spewing ash all over the central valley again. The only thing we noticed at our house was rainbow clouds the other morning. I'm thinking the ash in the air caused the effect as I haven't see it before. My brother and I were in the city during... Continue reading

15 de Septiembre, Dia de Independecia in Costa Rica. The country was a sea of red, white and blue. We hadn't been to an Independence Day parade in a few years so we took my brother to share in the experience this year. He fit right in with his red... Continue reading

The myth has been proven a fact! Agouti aka guatusa do plant seeds wherever they go. I caught one in action yesterday. This morning there were two gardeners! Hard to see the second in the shrubs. This guy saw our dog and made a mad dash into the brush. Continue reading

One of my favorite things is chasing butterflies. We've planted plenty of flowers around the yard to attract them. It's not always easy getting photos but I enjoy my time outside trying. A simple pleasure that brings much joy. Continue reading

This year has been an interesting one to say the least. The reason I haven't kept up with the blog is due to health reasons. It's taken months, eight to be honest for us to finally find the problem and begin to deal with it. What we thought was out... Continue reading

Our first lemon tree is over loaded this year. Looking forward to harvesting next month. We found planting here to be hit and miss. We always buy at least two of everything and plant in different areas on the property. One usually makes it. We have a second lemon tree started from seed that is doing well but hasn't produced fruit yet.

The rainy season varies around the country. Where we are, tail end of the central valley it runs from May thru November with the heaviest rains typically in October. That being said, this year August went out pounding us hard! We'll have to see what September brings.

Glad you found our page Debi. :) I've had some medical issues this year. Things got to the point where keeping up with the blog was just too much. I'm on the upside now & looking forward to sharing again.

It's been quite awhile since my last post. For now, I'll start the way my mornings begin ... listening to the sounds of sunrise. And looking on in awe at the nature that surrounds me. And now... that first, most difficult post is done. Continue reading

Their calls can be heard all around the yard. You'd think catching a glimpse would be easy. Not so with the skittish masked tityra. A mating pair has been spotted around the house for awhile now but it's been hard to get good shots. The other day they seemed to... Continue reading

Hubby and I were sitting in the office chatting when we looked up to discover we were being watched. It's becoming more common to look up and find parrots peeping in the windows. The pair played around on the rain gutters for about twenty minutes before venturing off to explore... Continue reading
