Con mucho gusto Paul! We had not been to the parade in several years. It was nice to see how the format in San Ramon has changed. Instead of going all around the town causing numerous street closures, organizers seem to be trying to keep events near the town square in front of the main church and park. We all enjoyed the event.

It's been several years since we've gone into San Ramon to watch the Desfile de Faroles (lantern parade). This event has grown in the past few years! It was a surprise to have entertainment before the parade began. The best part of the parade for me was getting to share... Continue reading

Now that the rains have been coming regular our purple iris have been flourishing. The pollinators are thrilled. The driveway is literally buzzing! It's such a beautiful display. One day I counted five hundred buds half way up the line of plants. There have been so many I've been cutting... Continue reading

I'm grateful for being able to walk in nature again after being sidelined for about a week due to a cold taking a nasty turn. Thanks to a round of antibiotics I'm in the recovery stage now. Walks are good to rebuild my lung strength. Nature is good for my... Continue reading

Monday was a big day around our house! For the second year in a row Bill's birthday was topped off with the arrival of one of our children. Last year, Callista returned from a trip to San Diego. This year our son, Craig flew in from Florida. Maybe we can... Continue reading

Yes, long wait Terra! Doubt we'll go back as it requires an overnight stay at hotel in the city for us. We're an hour drive away in daylight with good driving conditions. At least it's off my bucket list now!

My heart goes out to you. This is not an easy time. The loss of Bear, the only dog I'd known from near birth to death was huge. I know he is still with me and the two other dogs he trained and left to love us. Trust Max will let you know when it's his time. I too pray he simply closes his eyes and drifts across to the other side.

It was a spectacular display Paul! Reminded me of a fairy house covered in mushrooms. It kind of freaked Bill out. His first words, EWE YUCK! After the initial shock wore off he saw the beauty as well. These are an edible mushroom although were told they dont have much flavor. My friend adds them to soup just before serving or they turn to grey mush. Doesnt sound appetizing to me. Ill wait to try an edible wild mushroom with more flavor and with someone who has more experience with such things. Dont want to eat something I think is edible and really isnt. :D

The day before this shot was taken I'd seen a few of these pretty white mushrooms on top of the old guarumo tree trunk. Imagine my surprise the following morning when I walked by and saw this amazing mushroom bloom. The bloom spread from the tree trunk across the hillside.... Continue reading

It was an unexpected pleasure to discover Festival Estudiantil de Las Artes. My wandering in the city yesterday led me back to central San Jose. Tuesdays are Teatro Mediodia at the National Theater and while I had decided not to see the show I wanted to visit a store not... Continue reading

I'm glad you enjoyed the post Paul. Bill and I sat at the end of the parade route and got to see something special this year. Many of the handlers had let their children lead the teams past us. We were amazed at how many young girls were doing it. I'm assuming they were family members but they could very well have been people from the crowd that were allowed to give it a go. ??? Some were were giving people the opportunity to ride in the carts. Maybe one of these years we'll participate in this parade. Then again thinking of how long the route is, probably not. Better for us to enjoy it from the sidelines. Hope you get to see one when you're back in Costa Rica on the next trip.

This beautiful, tiny little guy is a Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium brasilianum). I haven't seen one in the yard in a long time. The last time I posted about one was in September 2011. It has been awhile. They aren't easy to spot. This guy was looking right at me as... Continue reading

Glad you liked the photos TurtleWoman. Wish he'd stayed around a little longer so we could learn more about him. The dogs like to chase things so it's better he was just passing through. The white dog is Maracuya,(Mara) she's our little princess. Tutti-fruity, our boy is a hunter so we have to watch him closely around wildlife. They had to be kept inside while turtle slept so they wouldn't bother him.
