Time definitely passes quicker the older you get! I can't believe how quickly this year is passing. Hard to believe June is quickly approaching. It's been awhile since the last post so I'll play a bit of catch up. The rain arrived this month but hasn't settled into a regular... Continue reading

This was our first visit to the nearby Lands in Love Hotel & Resort. We've driven past it countless times and have even made a habit of stopping at their roadside restaurant for giant chocolate chip cookies. Still we had't been "inside" the resort. Last week we decided to have... Continue reading

It's been a long time since I posted a mandala on Monday! Today I was feeling inspired by the fading orchids around the yard. The spider orchids were gorgeous this year. The name of the orange flowers is on the tip of my tongue but it's not coming through the... Continue reading

The transition to rainy season is in progress. That means warm muggy weather has set in. Hydration is key. Infused waters are keeping us cool and refreshed. It's easy to grab a bottle of tea or fruit juice at the store but so much better to make these in the... Continue reading

So much has happened since the beginning of the year. Scary how fast time has flown by. The most significant thing around here lately has been our daughter's trip to Europe! Our baby girl has become a world traveler. As I'm writing this we're awaiting word of her arrival in... Continue reading

A year ago today, mama sloth (Sarah) wandered into the little bosque near our home and showed us her precious baby. The baby (Dash) has been living in or around the forest ever since. Today. Snuggled safely in mama's center. Slothball in the rain. Dash snoozing while enjoying his favorite... Continue reading

Hubby tells me baseball season begins today. That means the Baltimore Orioles will begin their migration back to the states. I've enjoyed watching them the past few days knowing they won't be back until baseball season ends. Continue reading

Looked outside at just the right moment yesterday and was able to see this beautiful yellow-crowned euphonia. I believe this may be the missus. Continue reading

A glimpse of what we've got growing around the property at the moment. A güitite (Acnistus arborescens) twig we stuck in the ground last year has turned into a beautiful, tree this year. The first leaves are just popping open. Nopal, tuna, prickly pear down to just one in the... Continue reading

I do believe the balls are nests of a small bird. They don't stop long enough for me to focus the camera lens on them when flitting about in the bamboo. The tree is on a river bank. No access to it from where I see the balls. I had to break through a tangle of dried vines to get these shots. No balls in any other trees around. This one is in just the right place to offer protection for the inhabitants.

No Paul, the powers that pulled the event together knew I had some experience making herbal medicine and thought I'd enjoy an opportunity to speak. Initially I bailed and said "NO" uh really "Hell NO!" With some encouragement from new friends and a promise of back up... I did it. Well, don't ask me what I said as I have no idea but the session was a success. I'll do a post on it soon. Lots of info to process from the weekend still. :)

Beautiful moss balls were discovered hanging through the brush on one specific tree recently. I've never seen them before. Could they be nests? As you can see by the photos they are hard to see let alone get a shot of. There isn't a way to get closer to the... Continue reading

Year after year this poor avocado tree fell at the hands of my husband with the choppeadora. When he finally realized what it was he avoided it with the mighty blade. I believe this tree was planted sometime in 2008. This is the first time we've gotten fruit. So many... Continue reading

This post came across my Facebook news feed while I was at the herbal convergence last weekend. Yesterday I went hoping to pick up a few new medicinal plants. Sadly, there wasn't much to the Exhibition and nothing for sale. I asked and was told this was it. The herb... Continue reading

Last weekend I attended Medicines from the Edge: a tropical herbal convergence. A fellow participant in the convergence was Susun Weed. Susun and I shared many moments over the weekend. One of the conversations was about Mullein. I use a tincture made from cut and sifted mullein leaf in an... Continue reading

Summer, the dry season. We're supposed to be enjoying it now. Sadly the vicious, "Christmas winds" have over stayed their welcome. Yep, I'm over them! Walks with the dogs are no longer something I enjoy. Well, I enjoy them but not dealing with the wind while doing it. I could... Continue reading
