Ah, my aunt lives in Kansas and I have never been there. Hopefully one day! I'm glad you enjoyed your trip.
Driving in Flat Places
I found the flat part of Kansas. Really, I wasn't sure where it was before. I mean, we don't have mountains anywhere of course, but most of the North and Eastern parts of the state are more rolling hills. Gorgeous rolling hills, that I'm actually quite fond of. It's like the ocean, bu...
I have recently washed a family of bugs down the drain purely because they were partying in my kitchen cupboard. But since I am not a vegetarian, I feel that this is no worse than eating chicken. What do you think? Thanks for the recipe: bookmarked.
Some things of which I am ashamed.
I buy canned broth. I do. I make my own stock in the winter when I'm feeling especially homesteady, but I also buy cartons and cans. Sorry. BPA and everything, and the environment. Plus, Mother Earth. I am occasionally a bad person, and the canned broth admission is really just the tip of t...
I agree, salmon loaf sounds intriguing. I hope you try it out and let us know what it is and how it turns out. Is it like meat loaf?

Fantastic. I do love garden fresh asparagus. My Dad has a little asparagus patch and the joy is huge when he can harvest a handful. I have yet to try morels. How do they compare to other mushrooms?
Spring Feasts
There are many good reasons for eating seasonally, but the very best one--in my humble opinion--is that it makes dinner a bit of a celebration. If you can only eat fresh-picked asparagus from Pendleton's for a few weeks, it's all that much more special. If you only have morels for one di...
Thanks for sharing your excellent photos. I really appreciated that you came straight over to me when I entered the restaurant and made me feel welcome. I think you are right that the friends we made are the best part of the weekend.
Food Bloggers Connect '09: It's A Family Affair
Food Blogger Connect '09 finally took place at the Lebanese restaurant Levant last weekend, and as great as the food was, as insightful as the speeches were, as lovely as the music in the background was, for me, it was all about the people, a new group we can all call 'family'. Beth w...
