Just me
Interests: I enjoy scrapbooking - both "traditional" and digital, as a means of preserving and commenting on my life and my family. I am a genealogy fanatic who has been known to haunt the local family history library on saturdays. I love reading, mostly nerdy military history books, and I really enjoy hanging out with my family - we put the "fun" in "dysfunctional"!

We got up on the morning of Friday, February 21st, and prepared to enter the country of Jordan, Israel's neighbor to the east. I felt a sense of sadness as I caught my last glimpse of the Sea of Galilee... Continue reading

We put a deposit down on our Airstream today! We've dubbed her "Cloud 9" since she's the "Flying Cloud" model, and we're in love. We actually won't get her until sometime in May, and we couldn't be more excited. Here... Continue reading

PFC Paul Alexakis officially enlisted in the United States army on April 7, 1941, in New York City. He accepted an assignment with the Field Artillery division in the Hawaiian Department of the army. I'm sure that to a 19 year old boy, Hawaii must have sounded like a pretty good gig, but I don't think that PFC Alexakis thought that he was going on an extended vacation. I asked him once why he enlisted, and he said simply, "I was ashamed not to." It was a sense of duty that compelled this young man to sign his name on... Continue reading
