UPDATED: Apple is discontinuing the Beats Music service it purchased as part of a $3.2 billion deal that included Beats audio hardware, according to the usually reputable Techcrunch. 5 sources "including several prominent employees at Apple and Beats" confirmed to the blog that many engineers from Beats Music have been shifted to other projects at Apple, including iTunes. New Facebook user stats analyzed by eMarketer underscore just how important a tool the social network is for music marketers. 52.8% of U.S. adults 18+ - 129.5 million people - will access Facebook at least once a month in 2014, according to the latest estimates. - Of those, the average time spent per day on Facebook is 39 minutes. Video will take 15.9% of adults’ digital time in 2014, according to eMarketer. Online radio will grab 11.2%. Fullscreen is a leading multi-channel network on YouTube that has been making the move to be something more. That includes providing services to their clients. One recent addition was a music distribution and monetization deal with Loudr. Today Fullscreen had even bigger news with the announcement that Otter Media, a partnership between The Chernin Group and AT&T, will purchase a majority stake in Fullscreen. Sirius XM is is eyeing expansion of its fledgling online streaming service as a way to fuel growth, according to a major backer of the satellite broadcast service. “We are watching what happens in streaming,” Liberty Meida chief Greg Maffei told the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference last week. “Taking Sirius unique content beyond the car in the home and in the office, it’s an opportunity we’ve not yet attacked.” Sirius XM subscribers can currently choose a stand-alone net radio package for $14.99 a month. YouTube has added realtime analytics to its creator dashboard. The new Realtime report shows estimated views data for the last 5 published videos. The data is also available when looking at reports for any individual videos. These reports provide early insights into the performance, so that creators can adjust their promotion strategy. Seven young Iranians who recorded a video of themselves dancing to Pharrell Williams' "Happy" have been sentenced to suspended jail terms and lashing. According to the Associated Press, Lawyer Farshid Rofugaran said his clients received suspended sentences of six months in jail and 91 lashes each after their video was deemed to be "indecent." A "restructuring" is in progress as now former Spin Editor-in-Chief Craig Marks is out. Marks says that, though his recent time at Spin was brief, he had a positive experience and hopes he "helped lay the groundwork for Spin to be good and relevant and meaningful."
