Roger Safford - STB former tackle for the Stl Rams
Joekle and Long replaced a couple of pretty good young LTs.
Bryant McKinnie visit could signal legit interest, or not
I was told last week by a Dolphins source the team would have no interest in Bryant McKinnie as a left tackle option because ... 1. There were weight concerns. (He was overweight much of the 2012 season before finally getting in shape just in time for the playoffs with Baltimore). 2. There were ...
Calm down Mando. Joe and Jeff obviously have a plan at cornerback and here's what I think it is. Draft a couple, sign a couple UFA's, sign a couple vets this summer, open up the competition and may the best football players win.
Relying on other teams cast-offs and head cases (and CB's MAY be worse than WR's as far as prima-donnas go) won't go in this organization anymore. Consistency comes from discipline and undisciplined ballers need not apply.
Sign Brent Grimes because CB is a problem
Free agency is slowing to a crawl now. The top names are mostly off the market. The Dolphins did not report any visits Monday. Things are quiet. The club is still flirting with RT Eric Winston. There are a couple of other one-year or two-year contract type guys out there -- specifically Brandon ...
Love the moves. Airwaves and sports pages are filled with homers chewing sour grapes that their teams aren't making the same moves.
Wallace WAS worth the money because he's young, fast and can change the way teams defence us just by lining.
Is it a lot of money? Yes, but that's what it costs to get your guy on day 1 of FA.
Same with Ellerbe. Is he Ray Lewis? No, he's the guy the SB champs were counting on to replace Lewis. Good enough for me.
Dolphins introduce Wheeler, Ellerbe to media
Skullking around Dolphins camp I've picked up a nugget here and there. Here's the top nugget I have relative to the Dolphins apparently curious exchange of linebackers from Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett to Phillip Wheeler and Dannell Ellerbe. Thinks playmaking. Think pass coverage. Think more ...
Why not? A collar bone is not a knee. That Miami sun would warm his old bones. If Philbin thinks CW can still play and contribute on the field and in the locker room I say it's a great move. One less need to fill in the draft...
ESPN: Dolphins calling about Charles Woodson
A few weeks ago the Green Bay Packers cut safety Charles Woodson, a likely future Hall of Fame candidate, in order to clear salary cap space. That made Woodson a free agent able to sign with any team he likes. Now ESPN's Josina Anderson is reporting that multiple teams have inquired about Woodso...
You're chances of busting on a 1st rd pick go up exponentially when you draft for "need" instead of "best available". That's not to say the Dolphins should ignore their needs but to draft a WR at 12 when there are none worthy of a top 20 pick seems like bad poker. Lets get some great/good football players on this squad!
Kiper and McShay make draft picks for Dolphins; Salguero says be careful about both selections
We are closing in on that time of year, my acquaintances. Draft microscope time!!! I call this time draft microscope time because the actual draft is still two months away and the games are in our rear-view mirror. So the actual work for the draft involves workouts and visits and the Combine and...
Sounds to me like the coach wants players who work hard and are coach-able. Davis, Johnson, Marshall and Young at the time they were release or traded failed to meet those requirements. Talent isn't enough in this league. Can't blame the coach for building a team culture he's comfortable with.
Dolphins should consider both sides of character issue
The Dolphins passed on available wide receiver Titus Young Tuesday after he was waived by the Detroit Lions Monday. That's not extremely surprising despite the fact the team clearly could use a young (23), speedy (4.43) pass-catcher with upside. The reason Miami's pass on Young is no surprise h...
I'm just getting used to Miami signing a kid with only 19 starts @ the 8th slot. If the FO buckles to fan pressure to FINALLY sign a "franchise" QB and trades up to the 3 slot to take Tannehill I think it would be a mistake. Minne is going to want a LOT to miss out on Kalill and, personallly, I think Cleveland is blowing smoke about the whole thing. They needs RB and Richardson is too good to pass up.
Keep your pah-pah-poker face Jeffy and RTI will fall to you. If some fool jumps in and snaps him up go ahead and take DeCastro. It won' be popular but it will pay out with wins.
Jon Gruden talks quarterbacks: Practically all of them
Jon Gruden is something of a quarterback guru according to ESPN because he used to collect them like stamps when he was coach in Tampa Bay and because he speaks their language and because he used to be an offensive coordinator and QB coach. Fair. So what does Gruden think of the quarterbacks ava...
Zero Pro Bowls = Not elite
Zach's 7 Pro Bowls = Elite
Period. Point blank.
Armando is clearly stating the obvious. But he's right! We're over-paying for that position. So all youse grammer-geeks and Jest-flunkies can kiss his and mine
arses.
Karlos Dansby reps Dolphins among elite but does he belong?
You might have heard by now that Nike unveiled its new NFL uniforms today. The Dolphins' uniform is relatively unchanged. As part of the unveiling, each team sent a player representative to New York to model the threads. Serving as model for the Dolphins ... Karlos Dansby. Makes sense. The man i...
I don't understand how ANYBODY can rip Ireland so soon after St. Patrick's day.
Jeff Ireland is not the devil
This post is not going to be popular. This post absolutely will not fit the current popular narrative surrounding the Dolphins the past week. And I don't take this undertaking lightly because I don't enjoy taking a bullet for someone who is not my family or close friend. But ... This Jeff Irelan...
Gerrard is 2 years older and 3 inches shorter than Byron Leftwich. Not that I want him either. Just sayin...
David Garrard joins the Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins this evening added a 34-year-old veteran and prepared to cut a 34-year-old veteran. David Garrard has agreed to a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins various media outlets are reporting, led by Foxsports.com which broke the story on twitter. Garrard, who played 10 seasons in J...
We just signed Gerrard
Hold that thought ... Smith source now says QB serious
The Dolphins quarterback situation continues to convulse and now what seemed like a almost-certain move by Alex Smith back to San Francisco is not quite so certain if one believes people close to Smith. In this yes-no-yes-no-yes-no offseason for Smith, he is telling sources that he would actuall...
Now's about the time the front office offers Moore a contract extension, right?
Manning decision to Denver still affects Dolphins
Several media outlets are reporting that Peyton Manning has picked the Denver Broncos as his new team and is in negotiations with the team to become the quarterback. That has created a domino effect that reaches the Dolphins. Because Manning did not pick the San Francisco 49'ers, it seems to ope...
I'm going to start rooting for the hurricanes. Not UM but rather any hurricane that is available to wipe out the Fins HQ in Davie.
I'm not even sure a tropical depression would be willing to come to Miami at this point.
Does anybody have Dexter's digits?

OK, nobody laugh. Rex Grossman. Just kidding. Everybody can laugh now.
Seriously, I meant Bruce Gradkowski. Ross, baby. Make it happen.
Dolphins fail to land Matt Flynn too (he's on to Seattle)
I am learning to stop underestimating the Dolphins' inability to land a quarterback. Any quarterback. After not getting a franchise QB last year, and not getting a player even they believed would compete for a starting job (Matt Moore was a surprise to them), and not drafting anyone, and pulling...
What if STL wants Jake Long as part of the the RG III compensation. What then? Huh?
Riley Reiff to Dolphins at No. 8? Are you kidding?
Riley Reiff is a good football player, OK? I have nothing against the offensive tackle from the University of Iowa. I have watched a couple of games in which he has played and he's always performed well enough. And that, coupled with his size and ability and smarts, is a reason he's considered a...
Sign Mario Williams and some good safeties. Draft OL (again) and let Moore and a FA and/or rookie QB battle it out for #1. Ireland and his scouts get another year to find a franchise QB.
That is ALL they should be thinking about.
Manning might not be available after all ... maybe
Throughout the ever expanding Peyton Manning saga, there's been one bothersome thought that has continued to hound my mind ... and my mind hasn't appreciated the overtime work. ESPN reported a couple of weeks ago that Manning will be open to an incentive-laden contract in which he would be paid ...
If we want an older NFL QB with a winning record and proven leadership qualities we can sign Chad Pennington for the NFL minimum and a parking space.
His arm is shot too.
... And another thing that makes Manning wrong choice
A couple of days ago I made the case why I'm not too fond of the idea of the Dolphins signing Peyton Manning to be their starting quarterback in 2012. I'm not done. Moving on from Manning's health questions, his age question, his eventual decline, his being a short-term fix at best when the quar...
Creationists want Payton Manning, a hall of fame QB to drop in the Dolphins lap. Then he will regain his health, strength and form and lead us to the promised land.
I prefer to believe in the survival of the fittest. Give the team enough quality candidates to provide a real QB competition (sadly lacking for the past few years) and anoint the winner our QB of the future.
Its time for our scouting department to start earning their paychecks.
Question on Manning is whether he'll play at all
The Peyton Manning snowball is reaching avalanche proportions now. The Colts have cleaned house and it seems as if Manning will be the next to be ushered out the door. The Dolphins and Jets have leaked word they would be interested in Manning. The 49'ers might be interested. The Cardinals might ...
Payton Manning is 35.5.
Nicks and Williams are both 26.
Nicks was a 5th rd pick.
Williams was the 1st pick overall.
Give Williams the FA money
Draft another OL 1st
QB in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds.
Hope one sticks.
Which elite free agent should the Dolphins sign?
Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland declined to share information on the Dolphins salary cap situation when he met with the media Tuesday. Doesn't matter because lack of specifics aside, it is clear the Dolphins cannot be full-blown buyers in free agency when it begins in March. The Dolphins w...
Good luck in LA coach.
No great loss.
Jeff Fisher picks Rams over Dolphins
Jeff Fisher has decided to join the St. Louis Rams as their head coach, The Miami Herald has confirmed through various club and NFL sources. Fisher seemed headed to the Dolphins throughout the day Wednesday but intense negotiations with the Dolphins, particularly club owner Stephen Ross on the p...
If Bowles wins out we lose a lot of ground in drafting a new quarterback. And he still wouldn't get the gig next year because the ownership has their heads up their ask anyone.
We would just be showcasing him for another team with better management and a better quarterback.
What if Todd Bowles turns out to be a revelation?
There is only one candidate to replace Tony Sparano that we know will absolutely, positively interview for the job: Todd Bowles. Bowles, 48, will coach the Dolphins in the final three games of the regular season as their interim coach. He has been told he will interview for the opening once the ...
Time to pull the Kirby out of the closet and clean house.
Lets put a sign out in front of Dolphin Stadium and dump whatever we can before the trading deadline ala the FL Marlins.
Then we can find somebody that knows what to do with those draft picks and hire him.
Finally, hire Sula as team president and ask him how to fix this franchise. Maybe we should actually do that last step first.
Dolphins lose to Texans, 23-13, to go 0-2
The Dolphins have lost again, this time to the Texans, 23-13. It's bad, folks. The team is not only 0-2 but 0-2 at home. It's bad, folks. The Dolphins are winless. Everyone else in the AFC East is undefeated. It's really bad. Now Miami goes on the road three consecutive game, including trips to...
That's a QB
Live blog of Falcons vs. Dolphins here
ATLANTA -- The news first: Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, running back Reggie Bush and outside linebacker Jason Taylor are dressing tonight but are not expected to play for the Dolphins versus the Falcons. Will Allen, Jake Long, and Garrett Chisolm, who have been injured much of camp, will not ...
Is there any chance Will Allen is on the trading block? I know his old team is looking for DB help.
Dolphins add DB Gerard; plus live team drill coverage
The Dolphins have announced the signing of former Ravens defensive back K.J. Gerard this morning. The club also said it placed linebaker Mark Masterson on the reserve/retired list. Gerard spent 2009-2010 in Baltimore. He was recently waived the by Chicago Bears. Gerard is 6-1 and 192 pounds. On ...
OK - Here's the solution. Read it here first. Take credit for it later.
1. Trade completely out of the the 1st rd.
2. In exchange receive a 2nd rd. pick and NEXT year's 1st rd. pick. Throw in whatever else it takes.
3. Trade up for the 1st pick overall (which we might have anyway).
4. Select Andrew Luck as our next Dan Marino.
Sparano: New offense "not similar" to old offense
NEW ORLEANS -- You'll remember that the change in offensive coordinator -- a welcomed one in some circles -- was cast in some places as a move from one attack that evolved from the Ron Earhardt-Ray Perkins system to another attack that evolved from the same system. Different. Yet similar. Well, ...
