I celebrated my thirty-third circle around the sun on Sunday with a special little outing with my love and my littlest. Our sweet neighbor friends watched the big kids and we snuck out to try a new to us coffee shop in downtown Colorado Springs. It was a beautiful afternoon... Continue reading

"Hey, Smith." "Yeah, Mom?" "I think it's time we talked about your drooling problem." "I can't believe you brought that up, Mom. You know how sensitive I am about it." "Well, that's just it. I think we may have found a way to keep your shirts dry without compromising your... Continue reading

Once upon a time, in a land not very far away (um, our house), a brown paper package tied up with string arrived on our doorstep. Inside was the most beautiful handmade blanket in the shape of a tiger! We had heard great things about these blankets but there was... Continue reading

Remember that time last summer that my blogging became sporadic and then I told everyone I was pregnant? Yeah, that was rough. This summer it's just been full of life with three kids, contributor posts for A Beautiful Mess, e-course prep, our California vacation, a dog needing minor surgery and... Continue reading

Denise, Are you stateside? Send me an e-mail with your mailing address and I'll see what I can do. ;) We're planning on replacing a few things with new sets when we move for a fresh start and I'd love for these to go to a special place!

One of the most profound things I've learned as a mother is that it's up to me how much value I place upon the often mundane tasks or rituals that make up our daily routines. The extra energy put into a moment or the time taken to pause and reflect... Continue reading

Taylor, You can buy small copper rods at most large hardware stores as well as a pipe cutter (inexpensive) to cut them down to your preferred size. Good luck!

What do you do when you buy twelve tubes of glow-in-the-dark bracelets from the Target dollar spot to use as birthday party favors and then forget to bring them to the party? You make a string of lights out of them, duh! I must give Ruby some credit for this... Continue reading

Sure! Yes, I used a rotary cutter and straight ruler to get sharp corners and make sure it was all even. The width was already perfect so I just had to cut the height on a few. Good luck!
Since this is my kids' shared room and they aren't quite tall enough to utilize a high book shelf, all of their books are in a floor shelf that isn't quite shown in this photo. ;)

Son, you are already half way to driving a car by yourself, over a third of the way to being allowed to vote, and then there's all the moving out of the house and college, etc. in between. You were just born! And then you turned eight! This past year... Continue reading

How fun! There's so much to learn and I can't wait to try it the traditional way. We did use rocks on both sides bound as tight as I could but I think clamps may have been a bit of a better clamping method. Just an excuse to try again!

Shibori is the centuries-old Japanese technique of binding, wrapping, and dying fabric. Traditionally, it was done with indigo and I'm hoping to try that method some day but sometimes a mama needs a short cut, am I right? I decided I'd see if I could utilize shibori binding but with... I've been taking advantage of every chance to get a photo strip from the old-fashioned booth nearby before we move back to a boothless town. Oh, the sadness! We did a strip of just Sebastian to go along with his teacher gift in May and I really loved seeing him... Continue reading
