We're working on making the most of our time left with Brett before he deploys for a few months so when he came home from work earlier this week and asked if anyone was in the mood to hit the town in search of food we dropped what we were... Continue reading

The other afternoon I asked Sebastian what he wanted to do with our afternoon. Without hesitation he said, "Bake a cake!" I couldn't say no. Thankfully we had a spice cake mix and a random box of organic vanilla icing mix that Sebastian had tossed into the shopping cart at... Continue reading

It's that time again! ALL Ads are 40% OFF through the rest of this week! The one change from previous ad sales is that there will be no giveaways included through the end of August. I'm taking a break from hosting them as life is about to get a bit... Continue reading

Pamela, No, it's an issue I need to figure out how to fix. I've also recently had two people saying my blog is blocked for being a malicious site. I've looked into that one but still need to figure out why BlogLovin' isn't working. Thanks for letting me know!

We're about a month in to summer vacation over here but have recently had plenty of activities to fill our time with family in town. This week we've all been working a little harder to find things to do to keep ourselves occupied and entertained. Yesterday the weather couldn't decide... Continue reading

Outfit Details: Dress c/o ModCloth last year. Shoes, Target. Hat, thrifted. Glasses, F21. I came back from Missouri feeling excited about wearing dresses more often! Colorado is so laid back and casual because there are so many ways you can be active here so a lot of the street fashion... Continue reading

There's something so satisfying about shaping your environment to meet your needs even if it's less than ideal. Being renters we aren't able to make our landscaping dreams come true but that hasn't stopped me from making the most of what we have. Container gardening has been one of the... Continue reading

Wendy, Thanks for your concern. It's horrible that so many homes are being lost. It's about 15 minutes away from our home at the north end of town and we're not in any danger other than how the smoke might affect allergies, etc. but we're thankful we're safe. Still, after last year's Waldo Canyon fire that spilled over into the edge of town, it's hard not to be on edge until it's put out. Thankfully it seems the first responders are much better equipped this year because of extra training they got in case this happened again.
Mandi, Gosh, well done! I love that you looked at that boy and told him it wasn't okay for anyone to talk to him that way because it seems like that's all that was probably modeled to him. Sometimes that's almost more important than confronting the bully.
Thank you sweet friend! I hope more than anything that Sebastian and Ruby learn to stand up for themselves and anyone else that needs someone to do it for them. I know you know the feeling!
Yes! Sometimes not saying anything is just as bad. I know that kid heard me and we made eye contact when I passed him on our way to our car the second time. It was my hope, too, that he felt some courage or hope that there are complete strangers out there willing to stand up to that kind of hatefulness. And maybe one of these days we'll remember our comebacks sooner! ;)
Esh, It's such a heartbreaking part of life and I know we both wish we could shield our kids from all the hatefulness that will come their way for one thing or another. It's my hope that their generation will grow up with more love and compassion in their hearts for all the ways people are different.

The day of Emma's wedding went so well and was just as fun if not more than the build up to it. We got semi-dressed in Springfield, hit up another Wal-Mart, snagged breakfast, and drove an hour out to the cabin to get our hair done and get dressed in... Continue reading

I've been looking forward to this wedding weekend ever since Emma invited me to be one of her bridesmaids earlier this year! I got to hang out with so many of my favorite ladies, met some new ones, and had a great time celebrating Emma and Trey's special day! I... Continue reading

The top half of our fridge is covered in my favorite photos of our sweet little family. There are Instax Wide instant film photos, photobooth strips, random polaroids from a photobooth downtown, photos I made into magnets years ago as Christmas gifts, and thumbnail Instagram photos c/o Stickygram. I've also... Continue reading

These are the beautiful photos from the second half of our photo shoot with the lovely Rebecca Caridad. We spent some time in our home before heading out to Garden of the Gods - one of Colorado Springs' most special landmarks. I had carefully picked out outfits for the four... Continue reading

I'm honored to share the efforts of Art Feeds Moore in their attempt to bring healing to the children that lived through the devastating tornadoes that struck Joplin, MO two years ago and Moore, OK last week. If you've been looking for a special way to help this community rebuild,... Continue reading

So many frowny faces but mostly they just wanted to get to the festival and not stop to take pictures. In ten or fifteen years when they're looking through old photos and feeling nostalgic they'll be so glad we made a little time to document life. Matching All-Stars, the raddest... Continue reading

We were able to sneak in a trip to Territory Days over in Old Colorado City this Memorial Day weekend. It's a three day festival celebrating the history of Colorado Springs and the heritage of both the Native American tribes that occupied the land as well as the time when... Continue reading

One day early last week Ruby and I stopped in at a local thrift shop to look for a few more planters for the yard. Like most things in our home I can usually find most of what we need second-hand if I just keep an eye out for the... Continue reading

Bethany, Yes, Shugas! We've only really been there for date nights because we love it so much but we've also been to The Rabbit Hole once and it's kind of a novelty spot because it's underground and you enter through an enclosed bus shelter that has a neon sign and sparkly chandelier inside. It's kind of fun and has a lot of ambiance down there. The food was excellent. It's downtown, too. If you need a great breakfast/lunch spot try Smiley's (also downtown) on Tejon and Boulder. It can be a bit of a wait at lunch so brunch is really the best time. Good luck and I hope you have fun here!

Every May there are sirens and every May there are tornadoes along with jokes about going back to sleep or watching the funnels from your front porch. Then there's that year when the interior closet or bathtub aren't any safer than standing out in the rain because the force that... Continue reading

We have been enjoying mostly lovely weather these last three weeks which means more time spent in our backyard. Our apple tree has finally bloomed so we have all kinds of shade in the afternoon and end up only going inside long enough to cook. There's still a little bit... Continue reading
