I received a letter with a number bib from the Denver Dumb Friends League this weekend. The number on the bib is 132; this is significant because it represents our status as a top fundraiser for last year's event. I, and the staff, was 132 spaces away from being the top fundraiser for the 2012 Furry Scurry. I was shocked and blessed to have received this letter; out of all the thousands to participate, we were recognized for our efforts in helping the pets in need that go through their shelter. Have no fear - it was not for anything serious. My visit this time was because it was time to have my stitches removed after my surgery two weeks ago. I wanted to show everyone there who had already had the pleasure of treating me when I was down how awesome I can be when better than 110%! Snuggle buddies must snuggle; new snuggle buddies always welcome. This is a woozel way of life, a mantra if you will. Generally we prefer to have buddies to snuggle with, they do make the best pillows you know. The companionship, warmth and affection that we have when there is a pile of ferrets together is irresistible. The more the merrier, an extra cozy body or two to burrow next to or nestle with just makes the cuddle pile that much more enjoyable. Continue reading

All camera lenses are required to have nose prints on them. This rule is quite a suave move and even takes the camera out of commission until said nose print is cleaned off the camera lens. The staff absolutely does everything within their power to prevent this situation, but they don't exactly have the reflexes needed to out-wit a woozel. Not photobombing is not an option. Perhaps this goes along with our other camera rules (#56 and #26), and it is an important rule nonetheless. It might be an unspoken motto of animals to destroy or make their way into a beautiful shot. When the camera is usually pointed at us critters, I find it hard to believe that you were going to take a picture of something else other than me or an animal. Yes indeed I am walked in the same fashion dogs are; or perhaps I should say that dogs are walked in the same manner as me. *Smile* I have a few different harnesses for different occasions as well. This trait is not uncommon for ferrets, many have been taught to wear a harness and are leash trained. Today I am thankful for a great deal of things. I have an amazing home in which I am loved unconditionally. I have plenty to eat and even get treats and 'tone everyday. My bed has always been warm and comfortable, and I always have free reign of the house. I am grateful for the time I got to spend, however brief and wonderful, with my "fursibs" Boogers and Remmy. Last year, the staff and I chose to be Santa for a ferret on the Ferret Giving Tree. His name is Steve, and we received a thank you note from his shelter thanking us for the gifts.
