Earlier this month I had the pleasure of attending a Retail IQ Seminar hosted by the Downtown Austin Alliance. I really had no idea what to expect but was happy that I attended and jotted down all the key points that I thought would help me with the store, especially since I have this renovation project underway. During the seminar, they mentioned a book by Paco Underhill titled Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping and I was itching to purchase a copy of it. (photo courtesy of I love reading whenever I get a chance (which isn't too... Continue reading

My friend Grace just informed me yesterday that one of my favorite brands Complex Geometries is having a 40% off sale on their website and boy, am I glad she did! The sale is one day only (today) and I just went to their site and A LOT of things are sold out so HURRY! Use code "Feb40" when checking out (it takes you through PayPal). I feel a bit guilty that the first thing I did this morning was make a purchase but it's an amazingly beautiful sweater and they only have this sale once a year! Complex Geometries'... I want to thank everyone who took the time to come out to Le Garage Sale today. There were some great stores participating this year including some of my favorites - Touch of Sass (awesome jewelry), Gallery d (relatively new to 2nd street, very feminine, sweet pieces), c.jane (always stocked with great jeans), Service Menswear (sweeeeeet mens sneakers!!!) and Tylers (t-shirts, flip flops, swimsuits, you name it). This season it was also in the "big hall" of the Palmer Event Center with a dj and tons of room. Wendy really did a great job organizing the event, yet another year.... Continue reading

First things first - update on the puffy jacket. It's actually quite adorable and it was a pleasant surprise! Yay! The ordering experience with Bluefly was very pleasant and the coat is as slimming as it can be for what it is and it for sure will keep me toasty in the cold New York City winds. This is a quick shot of me below: (yes, that is my dog, hehe) A couple things have happened since I last posted. Notably, I became a U.S. Citizen today and had to skip work to drive to San Antonio to attend my... Continue reading

My New York trip in February is making me quite anxious. Why? The weather. Trust me, I've lived in cold climates and even experienced the negative degree weathers of Bettles, Alaska (in the arctic circle, population of 30) but something about the cold weather of New York City always frightens me. This market trip I'm definitely preparing myself and bundling up! I know many might judge me with my non-fashionable past-the-knee length puffy coat but you know what, I don't care! This is my first time ordering with and they're fast! I ordered it on Sunday and it's coming... Continue reading

I apologize for the lag in updates lately. Many things have been keeping me busy. Jenny and I decided to take a short road trip to Marble Falls over the past weekend to visit a yogurt shop she created the logo for. We were both pleasantly surprised to see that the store was beyond our expectations in style and design. Here are a couple fuzzy photos I took with my BlackBerry: Jenny's logo on the door! store signage one of the sweet owners and their sweet iridescent mini tiles loving the swirly light! the other sweet owner and so many... Here are some beautiful things that money could buy me. Of course, this is just a very small portion of the list, notably, home decor/design related. Take a looksie! (I'd like to call this British art. Teehee) (been drooling over this console table for quite some time now) (it's like, they read my mind) (one in every color please!) Okay, I'm gonna stop. Haha. Later! -E Continue reading

I know many of you are familiar with Kelly Wearstler and I must say she is one of my favorite people of all time. Not only is she an interior designer extraordinaire, she is quite the fashion queen as well (as seen on Bravo's show "Top Design"). I love how she can incorporate antique flair into modern design with pops of bold color (both in her decor and wardrobe). If only I could have her design my own house one day! Sigh, that would be a dream... (she's beautiful, isn't she?) Her book "Hue" was published this past November and... Continue reading

I was extremely honored when Caitlin Ryan, an editor of Rare Magazine contacted me a couple weeks back in regards to their January issue featuring "Up and Comers" of Austin. Rare magazine has been a familiar staple for me since college and I was thrilled to be a part of it. I haven't been able to get my hands on the paper version of the magazine just yet but found a version of it online on their site. I wanted to thank Caitlin for her time and writing such a wonderful article about me and the store! *one small correction... Continue reading

How is everyone? I've been lounging around like a bum for the past 3 days and thoroughly enjoying this rare vacation time that I'm getting thanks to the new year break. Well, okay, not a total bum. I cooked two meals today (including some delicious jalapeno poppers) AND helped clean my boy's fish tank. I am convincing him to revive it - he used to have this magnificent salt water sea world with everything from sea cucumbers to clown fish until the sea cucumber decided to explode its guts out and kill everything in its presence. We've finally got the... Continue reading

Happy New Year Everyone! I wish everyone a prosperous new year in all that you do. An update on my cheese grated thumb: the skin has finally started to heal so no more bleeding, yay. I bought this thing called bio oil at Walgreens yesterday and it's supposed to reduce the appearance of scars, I hope it works. Let me know if any of you guys have experience using this bad boy. Some of you may have noticed that I have gotten myself into cooking lately. I have received a lot of stunned, alarmed, shocked and worried reactions, hahaha, you... Continue reading

So I had a little episode last night while cooking. At first all was going well - my boyfriend and I were making some delicious tacos with my signature vegetable medley (think squash, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, mushrooms, etc.). I proceeded to grate the cotija cheese on the cheese grater when it took away a good chunk of my skin. My thumb, now has a small size crater with a flap of skin delicately sitting on top of it. I would post pictures but that would be a little much. (this is exactly what my grater looks like. it works... Continue reading

If you haven't tried this already, you really should... I know, I know, it was the most fattening, glutenous, delicious yet revolting experience ever. It was so delicious I almost passed out. Maybe it was the sugar. I tried the Funky Monkey (bananas, cream cheese, etc.) but they also have meaty and savory flavors like their Mother Clucker with a fried chicken strip on it. Well, Gourdoughs, I love you, I wish I didn't but I do. Continue reading
