Flavia's loss was shocking!! To a qualifier?? What is going on with her lately? Few years ago she became the first Italian to reach the top ten, then a few weaks later she went on to reach US Open quarters, coming down from 4-6 and 6-0 in the second set tiebreak...phenomenal match against Vera...to now playing and winning and losing such random matches. She is by far more talented than Vinci,Schiavone and Errani, but she has not achieved too much
Out Before You're In
by Pete Bodo WIMBLEDON, England—This tournament, which is not just one of the four Grand Slams, but also a kind of annual celebration of the game, is the place to be if you're a world-class tennis player. Heck, it's the place to be if you're a world class tennis fan, or pundit. But unlike fans...
sorry guys, but I have to disagree. I am utterly disappointed that a player without winning a major slam could be world no.1. Its almost like becoming a doctor, but without the degree..yeh yeh, one may be studying hard and harder than every other student, but you NEED a degree to become a doctor or any profession really.
Wozniacki's no.1 ranking is really a sad reflect on the womens game. She played almost 20more events than Serena, hence why she has many points. Ok, she won 6 events, but she also had some really shocking defeats, early rounds, including a 62 60 drubbing at Wimbledon. That is not a no.1 player.
Its just sad these days that when a player wins 6 events in one season, its like OMG, she should be no.1 !!! Back in the 90's, players like sabatini, martinez, sanchez, navratilova, majoli...they all won many events in a season but they didnt end up no.1 at the year end.
And how can people predict that Wozniacki will win a major in 2011 when she has yet to score a victory over clijsters, henin or the williams sisters???
Beijing: Wozniacki d. Zvonareva
Today, Vera Zvonareva climbed to No. 3 in the WTA rankings. But like Caroline Wozniacki, who simultaneously ascended to the top spot, there will be questions about whether she should be there. The two played each other today in the Beijing final, postponed until Monday because of rain. It was ...
Wow, havent had a laugh reading this website before.
Zheng reach the semi's?? And worse, Hewitt over federer in semi's??
Next thing this guy will predict for the UsOpen winners in September will be Kimiko Date Krumm and Thomas Muster (who is making a return).
Looking Toward London
You can feel it, right? The tension, the gravity, the anticipation: Wimbledon is the one again. Thirty, 20, maybe even 10 years ago, you probably wouldn't have felt that way. Despite the reverence that the best players maintained for the event, All England’s patchy, outdated surface made it f...
What?? Huh?? Am I the only one who was left feeling quite flummoxed after reading Randy Burgess' comment?? I have NO idea what point you were trying to make.
Steel Traps, Big Hearts
by Pete Bodo Mornin.' I took Bucky the Wonder Pet on my run this morning, expecting a flat-learning curve for the 11-month old dog. Well, he trotted along with me, four-and-a-half miles, like a champ - then spent 15 minutes in the dog run, making the other dogs chase, rassle, and drool all ov...
Ok, ok ...I admit I got it wrong... You are right. Sorry! Thanks Charles for correcting me. I agree, yes, that is not bad indeed. Far more impressive than Martinez'

Lol at Tina's reference to Natalie Tauziat as 'Nazi-Lee'.
Noone has mentioned Conchita Martinez...ok, she didnt win the FrenchOpen, but for the majority of the 1990's she was probably one of the best three players on clay. One year, from memory, she won something like 30 consecutive matches on the surface. Even the likes of Henin havent matched that.

I cant see how you can predict A Nadal-Del potro final at the French when Del potro has not played since the AusOpen...hence Im guessing you are not predicting players by form? I agree with you Nadal-Federer Wimbledon final is likely, however I think Federer will win it and the US Open. Cilic, Verdasco I think have more chance of reaching the French final than del Potro.. Maybe even Juan Carlos Ferrero too, he has been playing some awesome tennis recently..
I also agree with Tina..re the Monica Seles grunting issue.. Was it Natalie Tauziat who complained?? Never knew that. I remember Navratilova complaining in 1992.. yet these days the howlings from the likes of Sharapova, Azarenka put Seles to shame.

I enjoyed this. I also enjoyed watching Stosur outlasting Jankovic in the second set tie break. I hope Sam betters Alicia Molik's career high no.8 ranking. I dont know why, perhaps as an Australian, Sam Stosur seems more approachable, down to earth and altruistic than Molik, who seemed quite aloof when she entered the top ten.
Also, aussiemarg, yes it has been a long time between drinks since Sam Stosur reached the SF at the French since an Australian woman had done so last..but you have forgotten Nicole Bradtke did in 1988,and that was after Wendy Turnball :)
The Spartan Believer
by Pete Bodo Well, it wasn't exactly Borg vs. McEnroe, Wimbledon 1980, but Sam Stosur and Jelena Jankovic played an entertaining and meaningful tiebreaker this evening under restless, roiled skies in breezy Miami. It ended badly for Jankovic, the No. 7 seed and winner at Indian Wells last week...
