As you know, we are done with baby carrots because it reminds me too much of dieting. Besides, whoever gets cartwheel excited over baby carrots? Now, roasted purple carrots, here is something that will make your palate dance. Ok, maybe not Gangnam Style, but you'll definitely Instagram this. Heirloom carrots... Continue reading

My friend Maria @Studio747 was in town visiting last night, and I had to take her to Source SF. I haven't been able to stop thinking about that place and their Beet Red Quinoa salad. I was dying to try the brick oven pizza at Source because they can make... Continue reading

I got all "We are the World" on your basic Chinese Chicken salad. You know I simply cannot do anything generic. I got inspiration for my fusion salad from this Chinese Mexican restaurant in Phoenix where I used to live called Chino Bandido where you can get a Carnitas, Egg... Continue reading

LOL! Yeah, I just made up the word Vegveeta as a funny name for my vegan cheese recipe.

Quinoa salads are a basic food for me because Quinoa is a great plant-based protein source, and it's gluten-free. Beets are kind of a polarizing food. At first bite, the experience is usually either, "Oh yum!" or "Oh yuck!" And beet juice makes everything look like a bloody mess, which... Continue reading

I get really excited when I start to see fresh corn on the cob appearing in grocery stores. It means summer is almost here! There are two foods I will only eat organic or if I absolutely know it is GMO-free and that is soy and corn, two of the... Continue reading

If you want a good place to ease into vegetarian and vegan food, Source in San Francisco is an excellent restaurant to visit. It's located down the street from Zynga headquarters. With all the plant-based foods at Source, it should be the digital restaurant in Farmville. It was my first... Continue reading

This is how I throw down Mexican appies. That's right, it's plant nachos with soyrizo completely vegan and gluten-free inspired by Thug Kitchen's post about Roasted Strawberry Salad. Oh yes, that gooey melted cheese you see on the nachos is vegan. I call it Vegveeta because it kinda looks like... Continue reading

Doesn't cauliflower all of a sudden look more exciting in these cool colors? I especially dig the purple cauliflower because we all know how I love purple food. I saw these fun creatures at the farmers market in Moraga yesterday. Jazz up your platter with some colorful cauliflower! The lime... Continue reading

I like saying the word "rhubarb." It's fun and rolls off the tongue amusingly like "kumquat." In fact, I would name a pet rhubarb, maybe a cat or a bird. Rhubarb looks like celery's bigger, pinker, party-friendly sibling. I'd much rather invite rhubarb to my neighborhood fundraising for the Fireman's... Continue reading

When I eat meat, turkey is usually my choice. This stir-fry coupled with Jasmine rice is one of my favorite everyday dinners. This dish is also gluten-free. I found the vegetables at the farmers market. Purple kale is so fun! Ingredients (serves 2-3): 1/2 lb ground turkey 1 cup chopped... Continue reading

Saw these pretty red and white beans at the SF Ferry Building farmers market. The beans sitting among the fresh cilantro and garlic inspires me to make some chili. Related articles Pretty Edible Flowers: Arugula Blossoms The Vegan, Gluten-free Power Meal I Ate After a 12-Mile Run Continue reading

It's snackage time, and who doesn't love some chili cheese fries? This whole dish is assembled from pre-made products I bought at the store. Homemade chili would be awesome, but if you don't have time or patience like me (most often), I really like the stuff Better Bean Company makes.... Continue reading

Instead of baking them myself, these zesty nacho kale chips from Trader Joe's are awesome! And even better, they are vegan, have no preservatives and are raw. Yeah, TJ's dehydrated the chips. I'm really impressed how cheesy these chips taste. They only used nut and veggie flavors. There is no... Continue reading

I've been wanting to experiment with vegan enchiladas for awhile now, and happy to say that my experiment turned out really well. My carnivore dad wanted to eat these! The best part is that there was minimal cooking. Everything was pre-made. I just assembled and baked. You can use whatever... Continue reading

One of the trends I've been noticing in the farmers markets in the Bay Area are flowering vegetables and herbs like blossoming purple kale. This is flowering chives and I think they are so pretty, almost too pretty to eat. The flowers are a bit sweeter and really do make... Continue reading

Happy Earth Day 2013! And since Earth Day lands on a Meatless Monday this year, I went crazy at the farmers market this weekend and found some really cool stuff to make this purple kale salad. Along with chopped purple curly kale, the salad has organic arugula, flowering purple kale... Continue reading

I saw these beautiful creatures at Whole Foods Market in Walnut Creek. I love the idea of a leaner meatball. Instead of beef or pork, use chicken and add some Quinoa for even more protein. Use these meatballs in spaghetti or couple with some sweet potato mash. Related articles No-Cooking... Continue reading

At the Moraga farmers market this weekend, I saw these most beautiful blossoming purple curly kale flowers and had to get some. This is the first time I've seen this fascinating vegetable. The taste of them reminds me of a slightly peppery broccolini. It's really tasty in a green salad.... Continue reading

Thank you for sharing :-) Allen was a kind soul and touched the lives of many people. I really miss. Still having a hard time realizing that I don't have my healthy living geek friend to talk about health and tech stuff with any more. But, I know he's in a good place because he deserved it.

For lunch today, I created this mashup from the Whole Foods salad and hot foods bar. This is an example of assembly cooking at its best. I mixed together some garlic sauteed spinach, Quinoa, shredded carrots, edamame, and green onions. Voila! We have a simple and tasty vegan, gluten-free lunch.... Continue reading
