"Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them - that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like." -Lao Tzu Finally back at home, which is only ten minutes down the street from Guilford. I'm already missing my campus apartment but I'm glad to also be back pool side where I've already started making up for lost time! I had been stalking my bannerweb to see my summer grades, and I'm happy to say I made it through with two B's and an A. For some odd... Continue reading

"Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." -Lao Tzu 10 Things I'm Excited About: Junior Year 1. Being an Upperclassman!! 2. Working in Admissions again and learning new things. 3. Taking fiction classes. 4. Having my best friend at Guilford as a roommate. 5. Knowing I'll be a senior in the Spring instead of next fall. 6. Working on my second minor Communications. 7. Knowing I have only two more general education requirements to take care of. 8.... Continue reading

"Your time to shine. Dont wait in line. Y vamos por Todo. People are raising their expectations. Go on and feed them. This is your moment. No hesitations." Shakira "Waka Waka" Oh where to start for this past week. Okay so I'm a tad bit behind in blogging but I have to say I've been quite busy the last couple of days, I had a piano concert to go to, a midterm to study for and take, and a traditional student summer orientation to help run. Let me say, I survived and I'm glad my best friend and his family... Continue reading

"Why do you want to fly the skies when you don't have wings? I'll just run." Kiba (Wolf's Rain) It seems I've been doing a lot of running around between my social life, college life, and my me time. Leaving me to daydream a lot in between. I've always been a daydreamer and oddly enough since I watched The Graduate in my cinema class; Simon & Garfunkel's The Sounds of Silence has been the theme song of my mind for the last couple of weeks making my daydreams seem almost book or movie worthy. Though especially after watching Run Lola... Continue reading

"...Watermelon. Or like a panda with a mean face, or like sandals with pressure points drawn on them, or the smell of a blackboard eraser, or a Sunday morning where you wake up and it's raining." - Mamimi Samejima I started my Women in Modern Japan class yesterday! I'm excited this marks my fifth East Asian Studies class at Guilford and the fourth Japanese oriented class. Before I get started, I made a B as my final grade in Contemporary Chinese Society in Film. Huzzah!! I'm happy. That was lot of stuff within a 5 week time span to learn... Continue reading

"Being a writer is like having homework for the rest of your life." –Lawrence Kasdan In follow up news, I made a B on my Masterpieces of the Cinema midterm!! YAY! Just got to reach for that A on the final in July. Speaking of finals, I have my final at the end of the week for Contemporary Chinese Society in Film class. One thing I've learned that will now forever stick with me; I think we all know that China is the King of Kings right now within the world's economy when it comes to exports, well I understand... "It doesn't matter how long we may have been stuck in a sense of our limitations. If we go into a darkened room and turn on the light, it doesn't matter if the room has been dark for a day, a week, or ten thousand years -- we turn on the light and it is illuminated." -Sharon Salzberg Seriously? Did I just take a midterm last night? I am still shocked that I am going into my fifth week of summer classes. Where did the time go? I'm happy to say I made a good grade on my Contemporary Chinese... Continue reading

"Don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical; don't edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly." — Franz Kafka One year later... Well to all of you who are just reading my blog for the first time... Hello! My name is Megan, and I'm currently a junior at Guilford. Woot! Upperclassman! I'm currently taking three summer classes this summer, Contemporary Chinese Society in Film, Masterpieces of the Cinema, and Women in Modern Japan. I'm an English major with a concentration in writing/creative writing, with two minors East Asian... Continue reading

“Life is all about timing... the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the unattainable... attainable. Have the patience, wait it out. It's all about timing.” -Stacey Charter Finally a little bit of... quiet and homework? I cannot believe it is April already, I feel like it was August just last month. Ha, though I'm excited about wrapping up my first year of college because I'm so excited for the many adventures and different classes to come for next year. Speaking of which I will be signing up for my fall semester courses next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed... Continue reading

"OK, positive statement. Ringing affirmative. I'm a writer." -Paul Varjak Woah, what a week! When you let stress get the best of you, you start thinking things are due way before the due date. Sadly this has happened to me three times this week, I thought I had a Sociology paper due yesterday, I thought I had a History assignment due today, and to top it off I thought something else was due today. I guess there is something to my insanity, because I believe it is better to be ahead than fall behind, and the last month of school... Continue reading

"In my bag nothing changes, I stuff it with the ordinary, then to the usual place." -Stereopony Okay, so the first week back from Spring Break has almost come to a close, and I must say I feel like this has been one of the busiest weeks I've had all year. Though I'm not saying that it is a bad thing, I just feel a little worn down, and it's only Thursday. But even though this week has been full of getting back into the swing of things, I am just glad daylight savings made time seem to go a... Continue reading

“Veni, Vidi, Vici” - "I came, I saw, I conquered." – Caesar Finally a little bit of peace! I'm fairly certain that: A) It is going to be a slow week or B) It is going to be an intense week, for students here at Guilford. Midterm week the storm before Spring Break. Lucky enough for me, I am fortunate for this week to be a bit slower than my last two weeks of running around writing papers and taking tests. But do not get me wrong I still have little odds and ends to do before I can fully... Continue reading

"It turns out that an eerie type of chaos can lurk just behind a facade of order - and yet, deep inside the chaos lurks an even eerier type of order." Douglas Hofstadter It's that time again, that time of the semester when you have a ton of papers and way too many tests, can we say "Hello Midterms!” Yes, next week will truly be a busy week, and Friday kicks off the Midterms. I am truly looking forward to my European History Midterm, and tomorrow I have a Math and Sociology test. Overjoyed doesn't begin to express how I... Continue reading

“Sanity - that which is within the frame of reference of conventional thought.” -Erich Fromm This week has felt like a somewhat crazier week than most weeks. Monday seems so far away and yet I can't believe it is only Thursday, I feel like it should be Saturday or Sunday. This week just seems to be dragging out more than it should. I had a paper for History due Tuesday. I have a paper due today for Sociology, while I have my English paper due Friday. Then Saturday I have a LEAD Conference to go to in Durham, NC. Fun,... “We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.” -Buddha Finally the snow is clearing out or should I say melting away, though a pretty little birdy told me there may be even more snow in the days ahead. Don't get me wrong I love snow, but I must say I just want Spring to come already. I cannot wait for warmer weather! Oh and a small shout out "Who Dat!" Hooray for the Saints winning the Super Bowl! Anywho, it has been a crazy last couple of days... Continue reading

"Big thinking precedes great achievement." -Wilfred Peterson Hey There! Okay, so I am so excited it snowed, only problem is I feel like I'm sinking in the snow every time I walk from my dorm to anywhere on campus. Yes, walking from the Milner dorm was probably an easier task when walking to Founders Hall, compared to my poor Mary Hobbs and English dorm friends. The perks of being a freshman is if you live in Milner, food is only 30 seconds away from you. But back to the snow. I suppose it started snowing around four or five yesterday,... Continue reading

Hi There! Okay so, I'm not quite new to blogging but I will admit this is my first time blogging on specifics. But to start things off I'll begin with introducing myself to all you who will be reading this blog. If I start calling you my lovely readers, view that as a compliment! And I always start everything off with a quote; some of you know this as "words of wisdom". So here it goes my first blog of the semester on here: "If you would understand anything, observe its beginning and its development." -Aristotle Hello! My name is... Continue reading
