This is an interesting era. As participation in social networking becomes more and more compulsary for both individual and businesses, we find ourselves in another one of those weird beginning-of-the-learning-curve periods that makes many of us roll our eyes constantly, while others bang their heads in frustration. Those of us who have been doing this for a while become homocidal when our flow is interrupted by someone who might be a little wet behind the ears, while others try to figure out why they keep getting yelled at. It reminds me of the days when the early adopters had to... Continue reading

HTML5 Canvas Tricks: Transparency mask for eraser effect
I received a comp yesterday for a mobile ad unit where the user would see some "frost" on their screen and underneath the frost is the ad content. The user would use their finger to "wipe away" the frost to reveal the content. I decided to use the Canvas element to accomplish this. With the use of canvas' composite operation, this actually turned out to be pretty easy (although it took me a long time to find it). First, take a look at this rudimentary demo in a mobile browser. Drag your finger around on the screen and you'll see... Continue reading

Hmmm... yeah, it should definitely say "mobile phone connected" when it connects with your phone. Have you tried having your iPhone "forget" the headset and re-pairing it?
iPhone 4s, Siri, and a bluetooth helmet headset
A lot of people have been buzzing about Siri, the super-robust voice command software that's on the new iPhone 4s. It's really slick how you can tell Siri to call someone, or send them a text, or write an email, or read stuff to you, etc.. Today, I got the chance to create a sick and retardedly...
Hmm weird. Mine worked just fine out of the box. The only thing that was a little odd was when I'd ask it to read my messages, it wouldn't read the text of the message unless I had preview turned on, but that sounds like it's unrelated to your problem.
How old is your Scala? Is the firmware up to date on it? Siri DOES get activated when you hold down your home button, right?

God he's such an idiot. The WM3 basically did the state a favor by taking this agreement. If it would have gone to trial in December, they'd have been out and would have been able to sue the crap out of the state and everyone involved. I can't believe he still maintains that they are guilty. THERE IS STILL NO EVIDENCE.
Retired Judge Says "West Memphis Three" Are Still Murderers #wm3
(West Memphis, AR) -- The retired judge who handled the original cases of the "West Memphis Three" says the three men are still "murderers" despite their release from prison. Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, Jr. got out of prison Friday following 18 years locked up after pl...

Your Tweets Bug Me
Now that Google+ has made Twitter and Facebook totally obsolete, I figured I could finally post my list of Top 10 Things on Twitter that drive me absolutely bananas without actually offending anyone. Because, apparently, offending people is now something I care about? (No, not really.) (Also: t...
A-fucking-men, brother Garth. It's just fucking strips off the swine, people. Delicious, but it isn't the cure for cancer or impotence.
That said, I sure could go for a bacon milkshake right now!
Bacon has Jumped the Shark
I am so tired of hearing about bacon. Look, I get it. You like the taste of bacon. You'd eat bacon for every meal. You'd eat it in ice cream, on donuts, and in chocolate. Any food in which bacon has not been a traditional ingredient for more than 10 years, you would definitely be game to pu...

Did you get a visit from the Google Feature Fairy yesterday? I did, and some lovely new colors appeared in the top navigation bar. I saw some changes on the Grand Ol’ Search Engine page, too. Then, a curious little bubble hovered in the right sidebar of my Gmail inbox, reminding me of the us...

via blogs.wsj.com THIS is how you quit your job, friends. I dream of making an exit like this someday. I've never left a job under conditions where I just fucking hated everyone there or all the customers so much that it'd be appropriate to do something like this, but man it sure does seem lik...

Drew & I Pontificate on Life in Marin
Me: "Campfriend" wants to live in Marin when he grows up. Drew: Marin is nice. It's sunny. I'd like to be able to go there sometimes. Me: It is. Drew: It's too bad they don't let BART go there. Me: Yeah. Why is that? Because they don't want poor people there? Drew: Yeah. Me: (nodding thoughtfull...

pinball machine skate park!
Built in only 17 days for an upcoming competition, this park cost almost $500,000 to create and will remain open for only 3 weeks once the contest is over. A true replica of a pinball machine down to the lights, sounds and launcher at the beginning, this park is a dream come true for anyone w...

Playstation Network woes
Wow. I can't believe that Sony's Playstation Network is still down! I guess they closed it after a hacker attack about three weeks ago. I'm an XBox, but I was visiting my friend Otis the day after it went down and he was already getting twitchy. Now it looks like they'll be down for another month, while they completely rebuild the system from scratch. This is never a good idea. It means they're going to push something out that was built in a hurry, and since the implication is that they're doing this to make sure it's hacker-proof, it's going... Continue reading

More Tattoo Removal Fun!
As I mentioned a while ago, I'm getting my tattoo removed. (Check out these pics from one of the first sessions.) It's a long process (I started over a year ago and still have 4-6 sessions left), but I know you're dying to know how it's going, so I wanted to share the results from yesterday's se...

The Aftermath
Seven weeks ago, to the day, I launched a jump on my snowboard and landed it with my back. I’ve never actually experienced pain worse than the moments and hours afterwards and that’s saying a lot because I got all of my pubic hair lasered off without using numbing cream, my ex-boyfriend was real...
Dude. Be careful with that thing! All that loofa could turn your skin to lotion!
Full on loofa
Normally loofa you see in the store is cut into smaller segments. Got this unaltered, full size loofa in Belize last week and gonna take it for a test drive! So much exfoliation power!
Daily Writers: Duck
Ok, how does she not see this? It's happening like three feet away from her. The dog is LICKING the duck! So awesome. I sort of want to bust the little bastard, but I don't want to cause a huge scene. She's been working on that duck since yesterday. It's been a non-stop chore for her: basting, baking, stuffing, basting again, checking, adjusting, checking, rubbing, checking, checking, checking again.. It's like that duck is in Intensive Care and she's the nurse. You turn your back for five minutes, and that thing is as good as dead. Again. She loves it,... Continue reading
