Did you get a visit from the Google Feature Fairy yesterday? I did, and some lovely new colors appeared in the top navigation bar. I saw some changes on the Grand Ol’ Search Engine page, too. Then, a curious little... Continue »

OK, so I have some news to share with you. Today, April 22nd, is my last day at SAY Media. Including 2 years at SAKK and 4 years at Six Apart headquarters in 548 4th street, this has been an incredible venture and terrific experience for me to work with all of smart people on numerous exciting projects, but I figured it's time to move on. I should have a lot to write, but instead i'll dump some memorable pictures :) Man, that's a lot of memories. I'll send everyone a big hug and thank you for making my days at Six Apart/SAY so much fun! P.S. I'll take a quick vacation next week, and will start a new gig... Continue »

Mission accomplished, Cousteau's shark-shaped sub rises from the deep and receives a well-earned pat. The artificial fish on its "head"—a replica of a remora, a fish often seen hitchhiking on sharks—hides a forward-facing camera, one of up to four on the vehicle. via news.nationalgeographic.com Continue »

Apparently the only thing between us and Ghostbusters 3 is Bill Murray's poor time management skills: “Sony says they’d like to make it, everyone thinks it’s a good script. Bill has heard it’s a good script, but he hasn’t read it. Bill’s like that – he just says he’s busy. C'mon, Bill: No one has a more active social life than I do, and yet I still find time to read. SHUT UP COMIC BOOKS DO TOO COUNT. via nerdbastards.com Continue »

Today marks another epic milestone in the Tyre and West families. My sister is in the process of giving birth as I type this!! And of course, in typical Lisa style, she has chosen to experience this for the third time in a cabin, in the middle of nowhere in Franconia, MN which has a 15amp electrical system on the fritz and is therefore heated by wood fires (last I heard it was up to 60 degrees!). She will enjoy this among the company of close friends and family while submerged in a birthing tub, with no drugs, a midwife,... Continue »

Today was Six Apart's last day. It became Say Media this afternoon. And end of an amazing company, and a start of a new one. A colleague said Six Apart was sort of like college. We all worked and played together, and over the years, we started bumping into alum around the city working at new ventures. We are still a group, and are having a big alum gathering later in January to all come together. Current Six Aparters will be with Say Media, but many of those I have worked with, especially from the very early years, have already... Continue »

Today is my last day at Six Apart. It's been 3.5 years with an outstandingly clever and humane group of unforgettable friends. I dedicate this Apperceptive/Six Apart-NYC montage to all of you. [WARNING] This is a long, photo-intensive, inside-joke-ridden post.... Continue »

North Chowistan was within a tweet's reach... until Twitter ruined everything. The following series of events just took place within the last half an hour (or so): @DavidHasselhoff, the verfiied Twitter account of one David Hasselfhoff, starts following me. I've heard he's been following an awful lot of game folk... Continue »

Greg was a guy I knew from comedy. We hung out a few times, did a couple shows together. I was struck by his immense intelligence and good spirit. He died yesterday after an accidental prescription drug overdose. I’ve been... Continue »

Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to logos, but the new IE9 logo has really started getting under my skin (in what, a matter of hours?). You see, this "orbital" that has always been in the IE logo is highly eccentric. Assuming that e has a uniform mass distribution, the orbital should be at roughly the same distance from the surface of e at any given point in the orbit. There's some wiggle room here - but 4 pixels is a whole hell of a lot of eccentricity in an orbit that's only 236 pixels in diameter! There... Continue »

I'm a legal scrabb..., er "Words with Friends" word! Hmm, 18 points is pretty good, but I feel like I'm worth so much more. I'm nicely rounded with three point letters at each end, I just need a chance at some triple letter and triple word squares. For now though I suppose I'm content with a double word, entwined with "Fores" and "Zilch." If your interested in seeing 'Garth's full potential, start up a game with me! I'm "mcnibblet" which means "Garth was taken." Continue »
