For you ladies and gents around the world, standing your watch, walking your post, doing your duty, giving your lives to us, WE REMEMBER: A DIFFERENT CHRISTMAS POEM The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Continue reading

Waddaya mean 3 months??? That should be 6 months.... Besides, the photo has been updated to say it won't be an all female crew. The Hill got that wrong, obviously..... I'd hate to be the ORSE Board stepping on an all female ship to do the first at sea exam.... It is nasty enough being with nuclear power control freaks underway in close quarters. I'm not sure I could stand the cussing and gnashing which might result from comments on that exam. I mean the guys comments........ The ORSE board is not known to be very charming or compassionate about mistakes as they go, so I'm sure the ship will be perfect or will fail hard over. Something in between just doesn't seem likely to me.... Besides, nothing named for the State of Illinois is going to work correctly anyway....... Subsunk

I know that's not sexy or fancy... delivering supplies like that.... But those are some pretty damn impressive shots of doing one's duty..... All the gear delivered in a few seconds on target and on time...... Is this a great country or what???? Subsunk

That said, when you sign up, you don't get to choose which President's orders you follow and which ones you don't...you just hope the people at home make a good choice at the polls. Yup. Let's face it. The American people let our Marines, and all our military folks, down AGAIN, when they voted for HopenChange instead of sound Leadership for our Country.... I'm retired. I can say any damn thing I want about him.... They can't.... Subsunk

Ray Mabus is a f*cking partisan idiot and always has been. Naming ships after Gabby Giffords and Cesar Chavez shows he is a f*cking political tool and nothing but a political tool. There is little Leadership whatsoever in his body. Feel free to check your politics at the door, SecNav. Your boss may not be that way, but SecNav sure as Hell should be that way. Either protect the Navy from the coming cuts (which we've correctly already absorbed a huge share of because the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq weren't ours to carry, but belonged to the Marine Corps and the Army), or watch the Russian and Chinese Navies, and the Pirates of Somalias make us all look like fools. Nimrod. Subsunk out.

The best ten minutes I've spent today....... SSG Giunta said more than I've seen him say in public ever before. He surely has grown up a lot in a few years, hasn't he? He is still one of my personal heroes, even without his valorous conduct. And the folks in my home state surely did me proud..... God Bless Them All. Subsunk

I note with sadness the passing of Neptunus Lex, CAPT Carroll "Lex" LeFon, USN (Retired). Apparently, his Israeli Kfir crashed while he was flying as an aggressor pilot out of Fallon, NV for the Navy's Top Gun school. Continue reading

I am afraid that even I have lost faith in the strategy to use the Afghan armed forces to secure the country long enough for us to leave peacefully. Remove our troops, advisors and diplomats, along with all our equipment and money, from Afghanistan as quickly as feasible, following a planned safe withdrawl, and then bomb the crap out of any place, village, town, city that lobs farewell, parting shots at us. Every single terrorist act perpetrated by any Taliban, or Muslim terrorist is greeted with massive conventional retaliation from afar. Any WMD attack shall be met by nuclear retaliation. Tracing any attack to forces outside Afghanistan shall be met by the same in the country of origin. If unrest develops in the US over unfair treatment of Muslim countries, then deport them without hesitation and continue bombing until the attacks stop. I'm done with a nation building, civilized approach. Muslims, in their current state of religious advancement, do not deserve such moderated consideration. When they stop trying to kill us, we will stop killing them. And when I give up the nation building fight, almost every one already has....... Subsunk

Everybody should ask themselves, once the United States is effectively disarmed, (i.e conventional forces gutted, nuclear forces unable to respond to massive attack, and our ships and planes remaining tasked to the point of exhaustion), what is the result Mr. Obama hopes to achieve??? Disarmament of our enemies? When has that EVER happened in history? Never! What has always been the result of weakening one side in a conflict to the point of inability to defend itself or to respond to overseas threats? The loss of commerce. The kidnapping of American citizenry with abandon, the inability to form ANY consensus between allies about common foes. The loss of sovereignty and invasion is the final result of any unilateral disarmament of a once stalwary international player. Once invasion cannot be staved off, it is a sure thing that America will be conquered. There have always been men willing to dare the bold prize, and to attempt to conquer weaker foes. Saddam did so with Kuwait. Alexander did with the Greeks, Egyptians, Macedonians, and the Eastern Indians. Rome did so with Carthage. The barbarians did so with Rome. The Muslims did so with Africa, the Middle East and Europe. We disarm at our peril and to bring on Death and Slavery. I, for one, will not go quietly. Subsunk

Sometimes I despair over the ultimate fate of my country.... Naming ships for political purposes(Murtha, Giffords, Chavez, and yes, Ford, Bush, etc...), instead of after warriors and battles. Honoring singers as national heroes instead of guys who have made three and four and more deployments overseas into multiple combat zones. After bringing home troops from war zones, refusing to give parades, but cutting their billets and gutting their funding in favor of giving free medical care to.... whomever surely doesn't deserve it. Insisting that religious institutions fund procedures which are against their religious beliefs. Press institutions demonizing ordinary people who have different politics than reporters in order to build a "more perfect world" .... (More Perfect World Order, maybe?)And finally, unilaterally disarming our nuclear forces just because one disagrees with how icky nuclear arms are.... For all those who say they just have to give the President the benefit of the doubt, and that he isn't an Evil Communist, I would ask, given the above,..... how would you know the difference? Subsunk

I would be interested to see whether anyone took the advice of Nick Palmisciano, president of Ranger Up, and asked anyone for a "mustache ride." I sincerely hope each and every one of you has delved deep into your pockets to find what you can give to support Soldiers' Angels in their support to the Troops who serve and protect us this and every year.
