I'll be absolutely honest. I'm terrified of running! I've lost 120lbs, and have about another 60lbs to go. It doesn't want to budge lately, so I know I need to kick it up to the next level. So in the spirit of reaching goal, I'd definitely give it a burl should I be lucky enough to win. Thanks for being so generous to your readers, Shauna! :o)
WIN! A place on the Fall Up & Running 5K, 10K or 21K Course
Crikey, we're rapidly rattling into the last third of the year! That means it's time for the final Up & Running Courses for 2012. Our 5K Beginners Course starts on Monday 3 September and the 10K Course starts on Thursday 6 September, each running for eight weeks. Our 12-week Half Marathon course...
Haha I love the visual of The Mothership dead-heading your neighbour's roses! Enjoy your time together! :o)
Long Walks with The Mothership
So far so good with Operation Don't Stop Exercising Just Because Your Mum Is Visiting. Today I did spinning bike intervals while watching a couple of episodes of Home Cooking Made Easy. Mum and I have also been taking long walks around the neighbourhood. We keep a brisk pace except for when she ...
You ARE so worth it! Congratulations on an amazing accomplishment! You should feel super proud of yourself! :o)
Cycletta Report
I woke up Sunday morning feeling ready to spew, the usual nervous routine! I choked down a bowl of porridge while trying not to look at Gareth and Gillian's cooked breakfasts... the sight of scrambled eggs and greasy sausages was totally giving me the boak! Off to lovely Tatton Park. There were ...
This blog came at just the right time for me. I've been on a bit of a mindless binge of late; no excuse other than a bit of boredom. It's definitely better to just go and do something - anything - than to feel all blah about what you ate later. Thanks for the blog, Shauna, and for the pick-me-up!
P.S. That's a rather impressive beetroot too! :o)
Beetroot Baby
For me a big key to not eating when not hungry seems to be keeping busy. But not just any kind of busy. When in the throes of Workplace Busy, my brain still reserves a sector for perhaps this would be better with chocolate thoughts. No, the most effective kind of busy is absorbing, interesting, ...
There is something truly magical about autumn as you sit on your back porch and watch the squirrels scurrying about trying to pilfer all your pecan nuts for their winter stores. They seem rather oblivious to the fact that you may need these particular nuts for the Thanksgiving pies! Since I am full of senseless trivia, do you know that these little buggers eat 1.5 lbs of pecans a week and then bury another 2 lbs? I guess they are preparing for Armageddon! Maybe I have a soft spot for them because we don't have them in Australia, but either way I'll never cease to take delight in the adventures of these little rodents. :o)
WIN! A place on the next Up & Running 5K or 10K Course
It is all happening at Up & Running! We've got two e-courses on the go this Fall, or Autumn if you prefer, or Spring if you're from the Southern Hemisphere... First there's the third session of our 5K Beginners Course Then there's our brand spankin' new 10K Course! We also have the new Bridge ...
The wallowing part struck a note in me today. I was just reading a bloke's blog (he's just lost 150 lbs) and soaking up his words of wisdom. In a nutshell, he said to never belittle any day (even if you have a set back). Always remember how far you have already come. You're stronger, fitter and healthier than you were before! Like you said, you got back on track sooner than you used to be able to! Progress! I'm celebrating my first 50 lbs gone forever, but I still have a long way to go. So I plan on tucking these little seeds of wisdom away for when/if I fall off the wagon again. Awesome blog, Shauna! :o)
New Years Goals Check-in: June
I'm doing monthly updates on my New Year Goals. We're 50% done with 2011! June highlights Kettlebell Love. Wow that weird lump of iron makes you feel like such a badass. But a lot of the love is for lazy reasons. There's only one item to deal with: no faffing around switching plates on a barbe...
What a brilliant and lovely idea! We're in! :o)
Run for Christchurch
As you may know, New Zealand’s second largest city, Christchurch, was devastated by a 6.3 earthquake at lunchtime on Tuesday 22 February 2011. There have been at least 113 fatalities and over 200 people are still missing. My friend Kek explains the financial situation well: "Christchurch is a ...
Until we work through our issues, the weight will continue to keep rolling back on. It's the one thing I've learnt from this constant battle. I'm not rolling my eyes at you either. I'm cheering you on! You've totally got this!! *hugs!* :o)
Into the closet
Last year I hated opening my wardrobe. All those too-tight or just plain too-small clothes seemed to mock me. They were testament to my lack of self-control, my weakness, my laziness; whatever negative phrase you want to put there. After awhile, when I retreated into all-out denial, I didn't rea...
Grats to all the winners!! That was another fab year of celebrations, Shauna! :o)

"there is so much more to me and life than the size of my jeans"...Perfect, Shauna, just perfect! I'm so happy to read you type that tonight. It really resonated within me! That's definitely a wonderful mantra to embrace for the New Year! :o)
Ten years ago today...
... I was in Canberra, Australia, bawling my heart out on the scales at Weight Watchers then racing home to write about it on an anonymous patch of internet. Today I was in Edinburgh, Scotland, significantly smaller, allegedly wiser and meeting my friend and former virtual running coach Julia in...
It's not an easy struggle to win. I've been battling it my whole life. But I have to tell you that your blog really does continue to inspire. You haven't given up! You're still determined to get to where you want to be and work through everything, and just as importantly, you're able to touch so many people with your writing. So hang in there, and just keep doing what you know works for YOU! Wishing you lots of peace, strength and love for the New Year! :o)
There Will Be Spreadsheets
Happy new year comrades! Hope your 2011 is off to a cracking start. Things were rather crapful, healthwise, in the last six weeks of 2010. I was about as mindful as bulldozer! While there was some brilliant bits (good times with friends and family, progress on a groovy new web project) but there...
Feel better soon! I've found that planning is key to my battle..no planning = me wandering aimlessly to the fridge and making some very, very bad choices heh.
The slobbering hounds
Disclaimer: I've got a cold and feeling quite delirious today! Everything seems mildly hilarious for no good reason. But that's not a bad way to feel about the world, is it? Anyway. I wanted to clarify that I've not gone all Intuitive Eating bonkers. I wouldn't call myself an Intuitive Eater i...
Spectacular pics, but you had me at the chip butty! How I miss the old fish & chips shops around Brisbane. I've yet to find anything to compare to them in Texas..but I guess in the long run, that's probably a good thing!
You should be super proud of yourself for getting off the couch and spending some quality with your hubby! It looks like you had a bloody brilliant day out! :o)
Gone fishing
Earlier this summer, after weeks of grey skies and gale-force winds, there happened along a still, clear, airbrush-perfect evening. "I'm heading out the East Neuk to go fishing," said Dr G, "Want to come?" "Fishing?" "Yeah. I don't really want to catch anything; I just fancy going to the sea." "...
Well, at least they are being somewhat creative in their approach whilst flattering you at the same time. Think that scrapes by as a silver lining? ;o)
Alf Stewart..geez, I haven't thought of him since I left Australia a few years ago. Perfect old bugger to quote though hehe!
The name's Di. Di Etplan.
There must have been an International Comment Spammers Convention last week because I'm suddenly getting an excruciating amount of comment spam from a new fancy breed of spammer. I can just picture them frantically taking notes during the Advanced Comment Spam presentation: How To Promote Your D...
Copenhagen is setting a shining example! Seriously, can you imagine how much change we could put into motion if major cities the world over implemented this model! Bloody brilliant!
The Onion...ahh, hate to admit it, but my food would be telling me the same thing heh. Definitely the worst relationship in my life, but hopefully I'll find a way to break up with it one day. ;o)

Too cool for school. "Well, a person can cry for only so long. Then she has to find something else to do with her time." – A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, Betty Smith It's been a quiet but gooooood week. Finished the above book and reluctantly returned to reality, honked into about 40 tissues a da...
While I love reading your happy-go-lucky blogs, this one in particular really touched me. It takes guts to just put it all out there. You inspire me in more ways than just weight loss. There's nothing harder than digger deeper to face our demons, and I truly applaud you for your positive attitude to just keep truckin' on! You're a truly amazing woman, Shauna! :o)
Scott the Strawberry
These past few months have been rather batty. Stuff that is too personal or awkward to write about in real time. Also, stuff that is too personal and bloody tedious to subject you to. A healthy eating poster at the local primary school Basically I took myself off to a shrink. After a year or m...
Woohoo to the FB page..now I can ramble on about your comments and you'll wonder who the crazy person is! ;o)
