Agreed. For whatever reason I have a slightly difficult time tracking a conversation without a visual element. So e-mail/texts/whatever (or in person) is better for me.
technology makes you stupid
It's been over 80 for the last few days, and I'm going up to Portland for the rest of this week to see my sister, so I took advantage of the warm weather and went for a run yesterday afternoon. My brain quickly tuned out and started working on this story I'm about to publish, so my feet went the...
Break a leg and all that.
As for Android's Dream... I usually don't get into audio books, but I'm quite sure I'll be making an exception for this one when it comes out. Totally awesome book and listening to you perform it will, I'm sure, also be awesome. Because really, how can a book with a chapter long fart joke not be awesome?
...clawing at the ceiling of his grave...
All this week, I'm recording the audio version of John Scalzi's The Android's Dream. It's a delightful book, with wonderful characters, smart dialog, and some of the most enjoyable side trips into world building I've ever read in a SF novel. Also, it's really, really funny. Tomorrow, I'm going i...
I first saw this version ON MY TELEVISION, not on the internets. It was insanely surreal. They ran this one (but didn't have the Electric Boogaloo or whatever that was bit in the middle) and then ran the "normal" version right after it.
Strangest. Commercial. Break. Ever.
for all you last-minute shoppers out there...
While you're out doing your last minute holiday shopping, you may happen upon a little device known as The Slap Chop. You may have seen it on TV, and you may have heard that it purports to: "Chop up vegetables, nuts, & fruits, quickly and easily" with just a few simple slaps. And who doesn't lik...
I got excited and made (or finished actually) something.
It's my very first knitting pattern and can be found here:

Get Excited and Make Things!
My friend Ariana works with Warren Ellis to make all kinds of really cool things. Lately, they've been experimenting with print on demand technology to take creative risks that simple economics would have rendered impossible as recently as five years ago. For example, three weeks ago, they sta...
I will admit it took me a second. But more because I've never really thought of a "slate" as an audio thing.
I work in the news part of TV and we put slates on EVERYTHING, but they're always a visual, took my brain a second to add the audio bit to my definition of "slate."
From the Vault: how deep is the ocean?
All my creative energy is currently spoken for, so let's into The Vault and pull out an old post about that time I auditioned for On The Road. When I wrote this, I was waiting to find out if I'd been cast in I, Robot. I'd had a sensational audition that got great feedback from the casting direc...
