The last time Sophie was at the vet, for her yearly checkup, Dr. Rachel asked me if she was showing any signs of arthritis. She wasn't, but she is now. So we're going to see the good doc this afternoon... Continue reading

I've been making backings today. I have the backings made for both the house quilt and for the small album quilt. I took under consideration what some of you suggested about a border for the album quilt. But I decided... Continue reading

I'm currently working on putting together the house blocks into a quilt top (flimsy, as some call it). I have all the blocks sewn together into rows; now I have to cut out the sashing and borders and add them,... Continue reading

My new toy (btw, that fabric behind the iPhone is what I will use to back the Pink Houses quilt.) I have an iPhone. I am now a functioning member of the 21st century--or at least I will be if... Continue reading

I decided to take a short break from quiltmaking and sew something non-quilty. So I made this tunic. I bought this Amy Butler fabric about five years ago to make pillowcases for a friend who was getting married. Needless to... Continue reading

My sister, Joanne, made this little quilt and gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago. It's one of my favorites. The pattern is in a book by Georgia Bonesteel entitled New Ideas for Lap Quilting, published by... Continue reading

The quilt is 36" square with 7" blocks. The sashing is 1 1/2" wide, cornerstones 1 1/2" square. I finished my block-of-the-month quilt yesterday--which I am tentatively calling "My Little Album." I'm thinking that I will probably hand quilt it.... Continue reading

The October meeting of Piecemakers Quilting Bee took place yesterday at Barbara's. In addition to our regular quilty activities, we celebrated the birthdays of bee sisters Barbara and Gerry. Gerry's daughter Cyndi W., supplied a beautiful and delicious chocolate cake,... Continue reading

After sewing and sewing and sewing for days and days and days without taking a day off, I finally hit the wall yesterday. I didn't touch a piece of fabric or sew a stitch. In fact, I didn't do much... Continue reading

I finished the embroidery on the last house block just a little while ago. And for a break, I'm putting the blocks aside for a day or two and working on the little block-of-the-month applique blocks. I have them all... Continue reading

I can't make myself watch it. I get upset with cruelty. I haven't even ever watch Christ the King (I believe that was the name of that Mel Gibson Jesus movie) because of what people told me of the cruelty and beating scenes.

My favorite autumn snack--and so easy to make: a bag of candy corn combined with a can of mixed nuts (I get the kind with no peanuts). It's finally here, my favorite month of the year: OCTOBER, the month of... Continue reading

Two more to go, and I can start putting the blocks together. And after that, I'm going to put together the little appliqued blocks of the month that I won a long time ago with the sashing fabrics I bought... Continue reading

Now tell me: If you didn't know it was crooked, you wouldn't know it was crooked. Right? And all I did was add the shrubbery. (The trick was to place the bottom edges of the bushes parallel to the bottom... Continue reading

Jeez-a-loo! I love this time of year. I want to just enjoy every single minute of fall, knowing that it doesn't last long. I think autumn must be the shortest season of the year. Or either it just seems that... Continue reading

Well, this isn't my favorite block. The house looks like it's sliding downhill. That's what comes of fusing while cats are walking all over one's work table. But I noticed it too late to do anything about it, other than... Continue reading

This is block #5 of my latest quilt project, which I am tentatively calling "Little Pink Houses." As it happens, there seems to be more red than pink in these fabrics, so I might change the name. The name of... Continue reading

These are blocks that I won I don't even know how many years ago in a guild block-of-the-month drawing. Aren't they pretty? I had them stuck back in my sewing room and had forgot that I had them. Now I'm... Continue reading

Two of the blocks in this quilt have no houses in them. This is one of them. I finished the blanket stitching this morning. This makes four blocks finished and five to go. I'm about to start fusing the other... Continue reading
