Candace is one of my roommates and new favorite NYC people. She works in fashion and is not camera shy or precious about photographs- my favorite kinds of people to photograph! Here, she's wearing a Madewell hat, Ecote surplus jacket and a vintage Coach purse (1970's). I should mention that she's got a great DIY blog called Handy Candy - there are a few great recipes there too. Building on Bond is one of my local haunts. It's a great place to work during the week. On the weekends, they serve up a mean brunch. The huevos rancheros are excellent and they have a great selection of Bloody Marys too. I would also share my excitement for cold-brewed iced coffee (La Colombe) in jam jars, which is pretty impossible to find in rural Scotland. Here, it is a pretty "Brooklyn" thing. It's been a little over a year since I last blogged and a lot has happened since then. I finished my PhD in Anthropology, did some traveling around Europe, and finally settled in New York - Brooklyn to be exact - in early June. I've been spending my time consulting with different small businesses, doing some freelance writing and exploring this magical city. I really like these Kat Maconie sandals. Don't they look as if they would be super comfortable too? They'd look just as good with skinny jeans as they would with skirts and dresses. I should probably branch out to other colors (I just counted and 1/2 of my shoe collection is composed of black shoes, especially of the ankle boot variety.) I seemed to have misplaced my favorite every day lipstick (Laura Mercier "Bare Lips", in case you are wondering), but until I manage to pick up a new one, I am really loving Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector. Hey guys! Just a quick little update here from me. I'm out in the Scottish Highlands right now and loving it. The workshop program is intensive, so I have not had too much free time, but I managed to duck out today, wander around and explore. Hey guys! A couple of weeks ago, the nice folks at Jimmy Choo invited me down to the ‘Choo 24:7 Stylemakers launch in London, which was hosted by Caroline Issa. I ended up feeling a little sick and spending the morning in bed instead (boo!), but I wanted to share the initiative with you because I think that it's a very cool idea. ‘Choo 24:7 Stylemakers’, is an interactive microsite that celebrates street style photography. My friend Adam snapped this photograph of me during the last London Fashion Week. He took it before I recognized him, so it's as candid as they come. I'm wearing the Jofama coat that I picked up at Wild Swans earlier in the year. It's faux fur with great leather detailing. It came with a leather belt, as well but I removed that because, as you know, I really dislike belting things. Today is Mother's Day in the United States, so it only seemed fitting to give a little shout out to the most beautiful and wonderful woman that I know. Hi, Mom! Love you! This is a little embarrassing, but... Do any of you ever do that kind of online "window shopping" where you pile a lot of different items into your shopping cart and then hastily close the browser? No? Just me? Luckily, at Net-a-Porter you can make a wishlist (and neatly file all of your different "wants" into categories, while you're at it!) It's quite productive actually, if you ask me! T by Alexander Wang and Kain make some of my favorite tees, but I picked up a bright blue one at the Zara in Kensington a week or so ago. I ducked in to escape from the rain and figured, well, since I'm already here.... It's a good two sizes larger than I would normally wear, but it is wonderfully cozy and in my favorite shade of blue. I am really loving these classic pieces from Italian luxury fashion house MaxMara, all available at Matches. The chunky yellow statement necklace would look great paired with a white dress, the grey handbag (want!) and a pair of strappy sandals. The necklace would really smarten up a simple basic tee too. The quilted coat is a classic wardrobe staple. It's also in my favorite color nevertheless - blue! I could live in that coat all summer long here in Scotland. Ah, the make-up brushes in old Diptyque jars... It's a bit of a fashion cliché by now, but I don't care. At least we're all recycling. I think that it looks pretty classy too. For anyone who thinks dry shampoo for dogs might be a little silly: Clearly, you're not a dog owner. Fresh Dog sent over some products for Bogart and I to review about a week ago. They couldn't have arrived at a better time because the little bug (as I like to call him) decided to roll around in dog poop that day. Good times. I was out of dog shampoo and Bogart hates having baths, so I tried the Fresh Dog Waterless Bath Foam. It worked like a charm. It's easy to use and much less of headache for me... Continue reading

How great are these pieces by Dolce & Gabbana and Antik Batik? I love their boho-rock vibe. I'm not sure that I can pick a favorite, but I think that I am leaning towards the studded black Antik Batik bag. You might see that making an appearance in a forthcoming post. I really like the pink sofa in the first image. First: it is pink. Second: it's the perfect size to cuddle up with a good book (or, in my case, my laptop as I write my thesis). I am really drawn to spaces that are neutral overall, but have vibrant little pops of color. And of those little pops of color, well, lately I've been gravitating towards any and all shades of pink. I had a Polaroid camera about ten years ago and I really miss it. The film was pretty expensive (I think I remember that it cost about $10 for ten pictures), but it was well worth it. While I was doing my undergraduate degree in Anthropology in Connecticut, I went on tour with two punk bands during the summer of my senior year. Meet Rosalie and Rebel. Beautiful, classic, and so chic. I'm completely smitten with these plum Jimmy Choo handbags, which are part of the 24:7 capsule collection. They would add a great pop of color to any outfit, don't you think? I fully intended to attend the collection preview when I was in London earlier this week, but I ended up spending the day ill instead. That's no fun! I really love this ethically-made baroque pearl necklace by Frogpearl, which was waiting for me when I returned home from London yesterday. Just a couple of quick legit snaps (taken by Daniela) of the Mawi ring that I picked up at the sample sale today. I've actually never been to a sample sale before. Sample sales are a great way get good bargains on designer things, but they are a little cutthroat too. Mawi statement bracelets and necklaces and pretty incredible, but I was drawn to this ring, which is a little more classic, even for a somewhat blinged out cocktail ring. What can I say?
