Thank you for sharing this link. Once again, David knocked it out of the park. What a pity that the constituents in his district failed to elect him to Congress. We need many David Bellavia's in our Congress because they CAN and WILL work to fix our nation. Well done, David. Well done!

Thank you for posting this Matt. Hugo was an amazing man in every respect of his life. He is sorely missed by anyone and everyone who knew him. I'm grateful that the Army chose to honor and remember him by naming the Soldier Family Care Center after him.

The Jarboes have been a source of great inspiration for me for months now. I only wish I could have the strength that they have shown in every single aspect of this journey. My heart sank when I read the news of Jamie's passing this morning. I guess everyone who has been following him knew it would be soon but hoped beyond hope for a miracle. I applaude he and Melissa for making this journey theirs despite some who attempted to judge them. I pray for comfort for Melissa and the children in the days and years to come and I thank her for the example she has set.

As always Bruce did a fantastic job with the video - thank you Bruce! As always the Welcome Home A Hero volunteers, the DFW airport staff and the PAP staff at DFW did a more than bang up job on greeting the final R&R flight on Wednesday. In some ways the greeting was a little "different" but in most ways it wasn't at all. It was about those men and women on that filght. Any "this is the last flight" ceremonies and award events for the volunteers and staff were done either before or after the troops had arrived, been greeted and were off to their connecting flights so as not to impede them from getting to their loved ones. Sal was adamant about not being a focal point which is why he was not out in the crowd of volunteers but was back behind the set of doors through which you can see the troops exit into the sea of great Americans who were there to welcome the troops home. Sal came to the event not as a Medal of Honor Recipient but as he said in his speech, to thank those who always made him feel so special and welcome when he came through DFW. He is definitely a class act as are ALL of those at DFW who, for 8 years, have done everything they could to make the troops feel special, loved and respected. As Donna Cranston said in her speech, "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!"

Oh my! That's some tall cotton to be in. Matt, you have always been such a great friend, confidant and source of support for me (and so many others). I cannot even begin to tell you how honored and down right flattered I am that you included me among this group of amazing ladies. I am so grateful that our paths in life crossed and began such a fantastic journey together. I'm excited to see where the road ahead goes. Love you!

Thank you for posting this, Matt. There are so many great organizations out there working to assist our Veterans, Wounded and their families to bridge the gap. But the need is SO great. I hope your readers will watch the video and consider either buying the book or making a donation. Ninety two cents of every dollar raised or donated go straight to help those in need.

I wasn't aware the Taliban forfeited the Pech (or the Korengal, Waygal, etc) and entrenched elsewhere. I am painfully aware that we lost way too many men in those valleys and have so very many wounded and medically retired who were killed in action or wounded at COPs and OPs that we abandoned to the enemy.

“If we wanted to be in this valley,” he added, “we probably should have stayed. Coming back in, it’s going to be tough.” Well no shit! Thanks for sharing this Matt although reading it sent my blood pressure through the roof and you know why. So many lives lost, so many Wounded and so, so many lives and families changed forever to take that valley and all or most of others in Kunar the first time around. Then we walked away. Will always be a very bitter pill for me to swallow.

Check out the video at this link from Rapid Trident http://www.facebook.com/#!/video/video.php?v=1970363903053&oid=118553558177895&comments SSG Steven van Esch of the 173rd 2-503rd (who I know) exchanges wings with another "van Esch" Soldier. The two "brothers" actually met the first time 5 years ago while deployed by their respective countries to Afghanistan. Yep, pretty darn awesome Steve! CHOSEN FEW. I find it tragic, unprofessional and totally irresponsible the way you and others used the social media to attack Delta about this policy - the same policy most other airlines had in place yet scurried to update on their websites and were not blasted one iota by any of you. I daresay very few of those who couldn't wait to say what dirtbags Delta was will take the time to jump up and shout "thank you" about all they do for our military personnel every day.

Everytime I drive through the main gate I Benning I tell the Rent a Cops/Secuity, "Welcome to Fort Benning. Home of the INFANTRY!" They always try to correct me and I just drive off. Not sure about plans for Knox but know of a COL who is scheduled to take a BDE Command there next Summer.
