That was a really interesting post, and a really fun test to boot. Good timing too, now that my audio system is setup :)
I really hope you aren't pulling our legs though and they all end up being exactly the same.. By the way, are you going to normalize for stockholm syndrome?
The Great MP3 Bitrate Experiment
Lately I've been trying to rid my life of as many physical artifacts as possible. I'm with Merlin Mann on CDs: Although I'd extend that line of thinking to DVDs as well. The death of physical media has some definite downsides, but after owning certain movies once on VHS, then on DVD, and ...
That is just awesome.. I am not sure if it is back in Georgia, but I have a 101 shareware games CD from the 90s somewhere. I might send that in if I can find it somewhere in my spindles.
It scares me to think how much data is "created" on the internet everyday. Is there a pipeline big enough to shovel all that to the internet archive, and how much could that possibly cost to handle the download of all the information? My mind is spinning just thinking about it.
Preserving The Internet... and Everything Else
In Preserving Our Digital Pre-History I nominated Jason Scott to be our generation's digital historian in residence. It looks like a few people must have agreed with me, because in March 2011, he officially became an archivist at the Internet Archive. Jason recently invited me to visit th...

Visualizing Code to Fail Faster
In What You Can't See You Can't Get I mentioned in passing how frustrated I was that the state of the art in code editors and IDE has advanced so little since 2003. A number of commenters pointed out the amazing Bret Victor talk Inventing on Principle. I hadn't seen this, but thanks for mention...
@Uala:
It is not about everyone person reading every single thing you post, but about the time when someone does finally read something you post, it being understandable enough that the point comes across.
Kind of like the newspaper intern who puts quality after quality into his work, only to have it overlooked time and time again.. Eventually, when it is not overlooked and given a chance, won't the hard work shine through then?
My other examples include references to The Day After Tomorrow, The Little Train That Could, and the beginnings of the internet :)
How to Write Without Writing
I have a confession to make: in a way, I founded Stack Overflow to trick my fellow programmers. Before you trot out the pitchforks and torches, let me explain. Over the last 6 years, I've come to believe deeply in the idea that that becoming a great programmer has very little to do with progr...
