I'd like to hear about your Eureka experiences.
I have a very important question for everyone attending JoCo Cruise Crazy 2.
Saturday, I'm heading down to America's Wang to get on a boat, because JoCoCruseCrazy 2: Cruise Crazier is setting sail on Sunday. I hope that it lives up to this video that one of the cruisers (who named themselves Sea Monkeys) created: I know, right? Check out the video he made last year, bas...
I haven't homebrewed for a decade, but dude, you need to start collecting Grolsch bottles.
1) Capping is easy - just swing the ceramic top back on
2) 16oz bottles mean fewer to clean, less bottles to fille
3) 16oz bottles mean more for you when you're drinking them!
in which my son and i bottle our beer
I walked down the hallway toward the guest room, and started talking before I got to the door. "Hey, I just looked at my calendar, and I miscalculated when we should bottle our beer." I stepped off the wood floor of the hallway and onto the soft carpet we just had installed. I involuntarily squi...
Wil, have you seen this:

various items including: hunter, marketplace, batman, and a show with paul and storm
Various items that may be relevant to your interests begin ... NOW! * I talked to the Marketplace Tech Report recently, and our two interviews are now online. I'm sure it will surprise you to learn that I'm a huge NPR geek, so getting to talk to John Moe for Marketplace (I did my side of the con...
The pesterment there *does* give me a little flavor of how annoying Tier-1 celebrity must be, as I said.
I am no longer on a boat...
...but my inner ear is pretty convinced that I am. Goodtimes. Goodtimes. Until I have enough moments in a row to reflect on and recount the amazing and wonderful time I had on #JoCoCruiseCrazy, I wanted to take a second to share the best part of the entire trip for me: For seven days and six nau...
I jet-skied with one of them at Half Moon Cay (not sure which, didn't know who they were at the time). Seemed nice, he liked my nerd shirt :)
The jet-skiing was an enormous amount of fun, by the way, as was the cruise of course (except for those vendors in Ocho Rios).

See you on the boat! Glad you're really sailing, you haven't blogged/tweeted much about it!
Let's take a ride out, see what we can find
"If it's true about there being no rest for the wicked, then I must have been very naughty indeed." -Charlie Stross Yes, I just compared myself to Charlie Stross. It must be the coffee and lack of sleep talking. Go me. I leave for JoCo Cruise Crazy in just a few days, so I've been too busy prepa...
Speaking of vacations, do you have any thing planned in early January? Like a Caribbean cruise? A Caribbean Cruise Crazy Cruise?
in place of a title, imagine the sound of a howling wolf
I'm going to be traveling like crazy for the next several weeks, so last week Anne and I took a couple days off to have a quick two day getaway. We went out to this hotel in the desert that we like, and spent about 36 hours sitting by the pool, doing a whole lot of nothing. It was glorious. The ...
There was hardly a line at my precinct at 9:45am. I was the 251st voter, so they were busy earlier in the day.
Walking to the polling place, I saw 17 Obama signs, and 0 McCain signs - but that's Ann Arbor for you.
We have mark-sense ballots. Makes so much sense - computer tabulation, paper trail, and many people can be marking their ballots at the same time.
one last time . . .
I want my country back, and I want the despicable campaign of hate, fear, lies, and division run by John McCain and personified by Sarah Palin to be repudiated by a massive Obama win. We can make this happen. The polls all say we're going to make this happen . . . but I remember 2000 and I re...
I've been to Oban (before that health food store, I think). It's a lovely place - Victorian seaside resort.
I've also had the scotch, and that's like a day at the seaside!
a little celebration is in order
I bought myself this bottle of Oban when I started my current writing project. I put it on my desk, and looked at it every day from when I started breaking the story, right up until I finished the last bit of rewriting, just a few minutes ago. I'm having just one finger, neat. I'm sure it's t...
The effects didn't seem all that cheesy at the time (and they compared favorably with "Lost in Space".
Remember this was before 2001 and before Star Wars.
"You are still half savage . . . but there is hope"
I watched a couple episodes of the original Star Trek with Nolan last night, including Court Martial. He's not a big Star Trek fan. He prefers Battlestar Galactica -- he calls it "gangster," which is teenager for "good" -- and Firefly, but he watched it with me anyway. Though he's thankfully g...
Wil (and others):
You want to get the audiobook "The Witches of Chiswick", read by the author, Robert Rankin.
Trust me.
time machines for sale
I've been in the car a lot more than usual lately, so I've been listening to The Minority Report and other Stories by Phillip K. Dick, read by Keir Dullea (best known as Dave Bowman in 2001.) It's a fantastic collection of unabridged stories, and Mr. Dullea does PKD's stories more justice than a...
I'd never heard of Pink Floyd until I was a college freshmen (though I remember being puzzled by a graffiti on a high school locker 'Pink Floyd Meddles'), listening to Dark Side in the dorm. It became tradition for my circle of friends to play that album first whenever setting up a stereo system.
the sun is eclipsed by the moon
The first time I heard Pink Floyd, I actually thought it was Rick Dees. My mom was driving me to work on a movie of the week, or a commercial, or some other acting job, and I was excited -- as always -- to stop at McDonald's for ultra-processed breakfast "food" while all my friends were in schoo...
