I'm Kathy Jeffords (but you can call me KJ), and The Dreamy Giraffe would be my imaginary friend, if I was cool enough to have an imaginary friend.

Dear You, I was going to title this one "KJ's Last Adventure", but that's kind of depressing, eh? So. Happy New Year! It's going to be a year filled with new art...and a new blog. I'm so excited about 5 or 6 Kathys! www.kathyjeffords.com I hope I'll see you there! Continue reading

Dear You, Hmmm...wonder what I've been up to... I've been...thinking about rainbows. :) Hope you guys like it! Love, P.S. I plan to focus solely on this new little shop through the beginning of July...so there'll be new stuff added frequently! Then I've got another (smaller but exciting) project in the pipeline...then I'll return my attention to The Dreamy Giraffe Collection, giving it some much needed TLC. And maybe an Extreme Shop Makeover, to boot. Continue reading
Honey, Melvin hasn't had a date since the late 80's. You obviously have him confused with his twin brother, Marvin. ;)

Dear You, Business has slowed down a bit lately and you know what they say: Every cloud has its silver lining. Since it seems the entire world up and had enough of my big-eyed girls (and boys and critters) all at the same time -- good grief, that sounds far whinier and nobody-likes-me-everybody-hates-me-I-think-I'll-go-eat-worms than I'd intended. Nobody worry. I haven't resorted to worm-eating yet! (Stress eating chocolate...maybe.) Anyway, as any smart Girl Scout would do, if the Thin Mints aren't selling, you put less of them on the table and make room for Caramel DeLites or maybe even some brand... Continue reading
Awww, thank you, Marisa! Your girls' non-aunt doesn't know what she's missing out on. And she should be ashamed of herself! Believe me when I say, it is her loss. Words cannot express how lucky I feel to be this little girl's Kathy ('cause she never calls me Aunt) or how much joy she has brought me. Growing up, I only had what I call "Christmas aunts" -- I only saw them on holidays and was never close to either of them. So from the moment I found out my sister was pregnant, I vowed that I would NOT be that way with my niece.

Dear You, The other day, my niece, Kaylee, who is now four, was visiting. She was standing next to me (or maybe even sitting in my lap, which she says she will be able to do until she is 10) when I opened up a message that had a picture in it of a little girl named Olivia posing with a custom painting I'd done of her. "KATHY!" Kaylee said, kind of admonishingly. "Why did you paint that little girl?! You need to paint ME!" I don't think it surprises anyone when I say, if Kaylee asks her Kathy for... Dear You, Get ready to experience slight to moderate déjà vu when you look at the newest addition to The Dreamy Giraffe Collection! I think it's a pretty safe bet that you have seen this before. Kind of. There are, after all, 90something pages of "Keep Calm" items on Etsy. Ever since I first saw the "Keep Calm And Carry On" reproductions pop up and learned that the image (produced at the beginning of WWII) was in the public domain, I wanted to do my own (cute!) version of it. I just couldn't figure out how to do it. Enter... Continue reading

Dear Stephanie Rutledge, You are my winner! The set of 5 5" x 7"s of the Wonderland Interpretations are all yours! (If you'd prefer to just get two and have them as 8.5" x 11"s, that's fine too!) Either send me a DM @ Twitter, a Conversation through Etsy or the old-fashioned e-mail to kj at thedreamygiraffe.com with your address so I can get your prize out to you! Thanks to everyone who entered. Hopefully, there will be more new work soon! And maybe another contest. ;) Have a dreamy weekend! Love, P.S. Here's a peek of the Queen of... Continue reading

Dear You, (This is a lengthy post, but please scroll all the way to the end -- there's a contest! Whoo! And I also ask a favor. But the favor has nothing to do with the contest.) A couple of weeks ago, I had out my sketchbook and drew a little version of Alice (of Wonderland fame). I really just wanted to sit down and draw girls with really cute, detailed outfits! Anyway, I hated Alice. Hated it. Wanted to ball it up and toss it in the trash. But my mom loved it, so instead, I decided to scan... Continue reading

Dear You, Just a quickie to let anyone who is kind enough to remember me, the most sporadic blogger in the history of blogging, to let you know that to celebrate 2010, I'm having a "Twenty Ten" sale in the shop. What the heck is a "Twenty Ten" sale? For the next TWENTY days, all $18 prints are now TEN dollars. I hope you all have the best year ever! (And hopefully I'll blog once or twice again before it's time to have a "Twenty Eleven" sale.) Have a happy DREAMY 2010, everybody! Love, KJ Continue reading

Dear You, Is this thing on? It's been so long, I've forgotten how to properly write a blog post, so this is just a quickie to say: Tomorrow afternoon/early evening (that's US East coast time!), I'm going to be doing a massive shop update which will include: 1) Six new original paintings & prints from my new collection, Snowflake Village. 2) The last two paintings & prints from The Very Dreamy Year Collection. 3) A 5" x 7" print option. 4) 4" x 6" Choose Your Own Adventure miniprint sets 5) Calendars!!!! (I changed my mind on that one!) 6)... Continue reading
Hi, Brandi! Thanks so much! I'm so glad you like the painting. She's one of my favorites, too!

Dear You, As promised, two more new paintings! "Starlight" is an acrylic painting on an 8" x 10" flat canvas panel, which has been embellished with stars punched out of glittery and metallic cardstock. Once upon a time, there was a girl named Aja, who lived in a kingdom full of traditions and customs. One of these customs was, when a young man wanted to marry a young lady, he climbed, climbed, climbed way up into the skies, almost to Heaven itself, to retrieve a star to give to the girl's father, in exchange for her hand in marriage. There... Continue reading

Dear You, I have not one, not two, not three...but FIVE new paintings! This is "Buggin' Out", which represents August, in my Very Dreamy Year series. Amber was a very outdoorsy girl. She loved nothing more than going out into the backyard and lying in the grass and staring up in to the puffy white clouds polka-dotting the brilliant blue sky, enjoying nature and daydreaming the day away. Until, that is, one day, while doing so, she got bitten by a spider and her whole arm swelled up and she had to go to the emergency room and get a... Continue reading

I'm officially ending the sale this weekend, but but for you, if you need longer than that, I'll still honor it, just give me a heads up before you buy. ;)

Thank you, April! The polka dots were actually a last minute addition and I think they really made a huge difference. I knew the painting needed something but I just wasn't sure what!

That is quite possibly the sweetest comment ever. Thank you so much!
