But do the math-it was $280 Million refund and allowing them to raise $150 MILLION MORE in base rates. so approx. $130 Million less.
what is Fasano bragging about? 20 cents less in your electric bill.
Energy advocates: State nuclear cost recovery bill is unconstitutional
The state law that has allowed Florida Power & Light and Progress Energy to charge customers $1 billion so far for speculative nuclear power plants is unconstitutional, a group of energy advocates claims in a lawsuit before the state's highest court. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy is ask...
There were reports in Sunsentinel and Miami Herald that FP&L power plant had a radiated water situation. Or a leak from a crack in the floor allowed water from the cooling pond to leak into the groundwater-aquifer.
The cooling ponds are where the hot spent rods cool. No liner can contain the radiated water.
Read about exxcelon in Illinois-it was 2006-7 and the atty general was Lisa Madigan. She sued a company that had leaked radiated water into the Chicago drinking water supply.

Here is the problem: unless these non-legal citizens (I'm being politically correct)are legal, they do not and can not be made to pay back their student loans.
Yes, do not think Rick Perry was pro-immigration because he allowed noon -legal hispanic residents to go to college. It allowed FEDERAL money to trickle into college couifers. It had nothing to do with then concern of the hispanic residents who lived in America but their parents who brought them did not do paperwork.
If they are NOT citizens, they dio not have to pay back the MONEY. Free nmarkets would also call that a negative externality.
Florida lawmakers, U.S.-born students make push for in-state tuition
Flanked by students from across the state, a group of Florida lawmakers endorsed legislation to allow the U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition for college, if they went to high school in Florida. The bills, sponsored by Rep. Reggie Fullwood, D-Jacksonville, Rep. ...
The elephant in the room this article has not even addressed? Jeb Bush. The doubling of US Sugar's international operations into Florida was the first split from the spiritual and financially acute contract with the federal government for water quality. Jeb was the Governor and orchestrated this with the DEP Director. And at that point, no verification and review of pollution was ever in the contract or Castille's DEP agreement with this company.
We have never approached water quality from an ecosystem perspective. It has always been from a big billion dollar business acumen. God forbid Jeb Bush had to stare down Grover Norquist for breaking the tax pledge. And from my DEP Sunshine Law record request, he met with Grover in 2006! But au contraire to this anti-tax mentality, SOMEONE has to pay for pollution clean up on land, and pay their pro rated share of reservoir clean -up, as Lake Okeechobee has been the dumped in bath tub for decades.
Businesses need to remember Micro Economics 101: negative externalities. That is when a cost is not apportioned to the business that created the burden. Most costs for businesses will never be absorbed voluntarily by local businesses, much less global ones. Mosaic, US Sugar and the Fanjul's come to mind. If Florida residents wanted to take then same Grover anti tax mind set, we would demand Florida politicians REMOVE property taxes! Yes! Enough with your tax talk, someone has to pay for the ability to use Florida resources.
The big scandal no one is grasping about the tear down of water basin boards, and the redirection of water management boards?? The reserve funds! We are approaching $500 MILLION in reserves, some of which ( as the basin boards) laws determined the per tax milleage apportionment from residential taxpayers' properties. This is illegal, in my opinion, and should be addressed by a consumer advocate group. God knows, past water management board Director Sonny Vergara and I cant be the only concerned citizens about this issue.
Bob Graham to Legislature: You are endangering the Everglades
Former Florida Governor and U.S. Sen. Bob Graham wrote this blistering op-ed in Sunday's Miami Herald blaming lawmakers for eroding progress on restoration efforts for the state's famed River of Grass: The Everglades is in danger again. This time it is not from a drought, hurricane or other act ...
And, after a long list of Jeb bush nominees and appointees that have hit the skids with ethics complaints, let's not forget Lila Jaber and Braulio baez of the PSC.
Oh! Like Hawkes, Baez found a way in the door again as director of the PSC! I am sure Hawkes will too.
Facing ethics trial, 'Taj Mahal' judge says he's resigning
Lucy Morgan delivers the scoop: 1st District Court Judge Paul M. Hawkes is resigning from the court to avoid an ethics trial before the Judicial Qualifications Commission. Hawkes was charged in May with conduct unbecoming a judge, destroying public records and intimidating state employees inv...
The supposition of this analysis is that early GOP voters VOTE Republican..
Oh contraire!
I know alot of people who finished their mail in ballots and voted Dem Alex Sink.
So dont think all GOP Republicans VOTE republican!
Rick Scott's pre-Election Day lead: 100,000 votes
The polls will open in less than a half hour, and already Democrat Alex Sink has to play catchup. Republican Rick Scott and his party outdid themselves in getting out the early and absentee vote, getting nearly 1.1 million Republican ballots cast before today. About 815,000 Democrats cast early ...
Well, as our fearless GOP pack of wolves would like to know how Alex Sink will balance the budget, we know what she will NOT do. Because bought and paid for Rick Scott is under Barney Bishop's business group "thumb." and we know what happened at the PSC when Barney went after certain PSC commissioners who just happened to vote against a rate increase.
This is the same legislators that voted with Jeb Bush for the rate increase -2006 Energy Bill that raised our electric rates.
So, as Barney and Jeb run around with the business community , who doesnt want the burden of taxes or fees raised on their "group", ask how anyone will balance a budget on the backs of property tax paying citizens?
Crist just "said no" for bills sent to him, but gave no direction as to how the budget burden should be spread out. Saying NO to everything, and no solutions? Is that what you want fom the next Governor?
So, as the federal govt just said NO to the Jeb medicaid pilot program (it didnt work- and we have 10% more uninsured on the waiting list)and Dade Miami's fees for that program went up, lets do a pretend Florida medicaid budget for the next debate question.
You KNOW from past experiences , Rick Scott with HCA will slash slash and slash. the counties and cities cant deal with any more homeless or uninsured emergency room visits. So how is thatb going to work-GOP legislators?
Haridopolos has questions about Alex Sink's budget math, but not Rick Scott's
The incoming Republican Senate President, Mike Haridopolos, is asking for more details on the budget plans of Democrat Alex Sink -- but not of Rick Scott (surprise, surprise!). In short, Haridopolos said he sees more budget promises than cuts in Sink's proposals, and he wants to know more. So do...
So, while FLorida lay sleeping. Ask yourself, if this isnt the biggest payday for big AG business. Jeb is gone, and still US SUgar and Fanjuls do NOT want to be in compliance with the twenty years of lawsuits for their water phosphorus (fertilizer) pollution that is untreated and running into our drinking water.
So, not only is the GOP Governor's candidate bouight and paid for, while EPA clean water enforcement is looming! You'all are sleeping about the Ag commission race, in which the BART (best practices for ag et all)is controlled and "negotiated" by the Agriculture commissioner.
The shot across the bow, last year, a BIG sugar company gave over $100,000 and a fundraiser to Adam Putnam. And you all were clueless.
Crist 's honey big money bunny was FP&L. They paid for his VEEP ammendment One bus joke, millions worth. And look what they got at the PSC and state congressional laws concerning our explosive electric bills. Crist's paltry "pro-consumer" show at the PSC does little when as Atty General he never fought the new laws Jeb bush signed.
Wake up folks, Jeb has long fingernails, scratching big businesses' backs, with new puupets.
Fanjuls funnel $100k to Rick Scott campaign
It was a $215,500 pay day on Tuesday for Republican Rick Scott's political committee, Let's Get to Work. Of that total for the GOP gubernatorial nominee, $5,000 was from Tampa developer Richard Corbett, $50,000 was from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Jacksonville and $20,000 was from Automated Health...

Just remember, Crst had the national former GOP party fundraiser Al Hoffman, screaming in his office about Greer's spending..That was before the Crist/ Greer/ Johnson known contract showed up...
McCollum knew and tried to bury it, which cost him a job. McCollum has nothing to lose by unleashing incestigation after investigation. Crist left the GOP wide open to loss of seats for his monkey picked friends.
Birds of a feather flock together...
Charlie Crist went to Disney World! Now who paid for it?
Charlie Crist and former Republican Party of Florida chairman Jim Greer took their families to Disney World in 2009. Republican donors paid more than $11,000 for the weekend getaway. But did donors help pick up Crist's tab? PolitiFact Florida tries to sort out the details here.
The Governor has no (moral) clothes.
It's hard feeling and looking absoltely naked, isnt it , Charlie?
And just how do you defend your ad, governor?
In a rather misleading ad, Gov. Charlie Crist lit into Marco Rubio over big spending. (Background/ad here) So we asked the governor to defend his attack. Here's the give and take with our Becky Bowers: Q: How is it fair to say Rubio "sneaked" $500 million of local projects into the budget when i...
Wasnt that sad they tried (Jeb et all) take out Dwyer for the same people that Glenda Hood and Mel Martinez used for absentee balloting initiatives.
And to think, without the SP times review, Jeb might have one, taking out Crist's nemisis for office.
What might have been.

Of course, scarey to hear Rick Scott's commentsd about his HCA affiliation. He said he resigned, and then the poorly run company had indictments. Actually, he ran the company for the years of the indictments' lawsuit.
On a more serious note, arent you all forgetting the AMOUNT of money Rick Scott's companby paid JEB BUSH in the early years of Jeb's office for Governor??? That's scarey. FOUR MORE YEARS OF JEB!
Erin Isaac joins Scott-Carroll campaign
Both campaigns for governor in Florida are entering a new staffing-up phase for the eight-week general election sprint. Republican Rick Scott has hired Erin Isaac, Gov. Charlie Crist's former communications director, to handle media relations for Scott's running mate, Rep. Jennifer Carroll. Scot...
You all forget, Lisa Edgar was cleared, but Argenziano 's assistant's pins were shared with FP&L loobyists for Larry Harris AND Argenziano. And her use of pin communication was an attempt to circumvent a Sunshine Law email review .
Edgar will not be removed, so get over it. Argenziano's fight with Barney Bishop's group was for a 2001 State Senator Argenziano GAFF when she sent the woman menuere in a box, delivered on the state senate floor to the lobbyist during session. Sicko Argenziano. She is her own worst enemy.
And last but not least, Charlie Crist's BUDDY and campaign friend-BRian Ballard is reported in this reporty. So how's Charlie the people's US Senator if he's connected to greasy dudes like Ballard and US Sugar Stipanovich??
God bless the FP&L silent whistleblowers. At least PSC Devlin is horrified, but Chair Argenziano did not want to deal with this, or her IG Stolting would have moved forward and admonoshed her dept to do better audits.
I might ad that PSC DIrector (and Commissioner candidate) Mary Bane would have been the point person for a better audit of FP&L figures for the rate case. Bane didnt initiate it, did she? Fox in the hen house if that woman, involved as Director during all these 8 years of scandals, is allowed to be a Commissioner.
FDLE: utility company didn't violate criminal laws, says its an ethics investigation
Remember that FDLE investigation into alleged fraudulent practices at Florida Power & Light, based on a series of whistleblower letters? The unidentified FPL employees alleged, among other things, that FPL tried to manipulate its rate case by using two sets of books, improperly stamping documen...
It is interesting our papers are announcing that Crist is a viable third party candidate. When in reality, his decision was made to change parties AFTER he harnessed the $6 MILLION in funds from the GOP campaign machine. Since the beg borrow or steal for funds from big campaigners and lobbyists, his position is now that he works for Floridians.
He has never submitted and steered the legislators for a budget compromise in Florida. Instead, he hinted he would allow cuts , then vetoed bills to look like the hero.
To say you want a balanced budget and no new taxes is one thing. To allow and sign bills that allow dept. Directors in FLorida to use reserves for operational accounts because you lack viable spending alternatives is reckless.
Then if Crist did one thing right, he allowed Dems to storm the Capitol with examples of virtues of balanced budgets that GOP Florida has been lacking. To allow Florida to vote on tax alternatives looks foolish, when Graham would do committees of exhaustive studies to make the right decisions with help. This is Governor Crist;s shortcomings.
Florida will lose many GOP opportunities for trully good leaders. But in the US Senate, to be able to conform, negotiate, and balance unhappy constituents is not a job description Governor Crist could fit into.
NRSC pumps $2.5-mil behind Marco Rubio
Narrowing Charlie Crist's financial advantage and putting pressure on national Democrats to put up or shut up on Democratic nominee Kendrick Meek, the National Republican Senatorial Committee is pumping $2.5-million - the maximum allowed under federal law - into campaign advertising to be coordi...
I think Mac Stipanovich should have seen the writing on the wall, after his bro Coleman hit the door . he did the "favor" for ex-Gov Jeb with Lehman Brothers. Thank god for the documentation that tomflocco.com had for the ST pete times!
No US Sugar Mac, no prop for Charlie.
Maybe the chamber is broke, paying to make sure no taxes or fees come their way, after the sales tax and property TAXED consumers are shell shocked and broke.
Make sure the power companies nickel and dime everyone with the telecom companies...GOP paid for this. Scott cant be all that bad, you know.. He isnt indicted EITHER! Send in the clowns!
Shell-shocked lobbyists say it's time to 'reflect'
It was a surreal scene Wednesday at the Hilton in Altamonte Springs, the hotel alongside I-4 where Bill McCollum was to have declared victory Tuesday night. After a late night of drowning their sorrows -- not celebrating Rick Scott's win -- a number of the Capitol's best-known lobbyists gathered...
Dont you think this is funny? As Jeb was at the GOP florida throne, he decided who ran and who didnt. He had the money machine. Now, we were told, if polls said you were winning, and ads said the oponent was a hack, that was true.
Now rich men smell a fla machine is falling apart with the GOP. Why donate when you can run a campaign for yourself? But now that Scott and Greene were winning, we must question them. WHY?
Whoever wins, we are a mess. Our GOP Congress passed laws 2009 that allows state Depts to run using reserves for general operating accounts. Scarey, the next poor guy is going to find quarter jars for savings.
What RPOF won't tell you about Bill McCollum
Florida Republican Chairman John Thrasher sent a message to party faithful titled "Rick Scott" on Sunday night, blasting him (again) for invoking the Jim Greer scandal in the campaign. (See his message below.) Scott's camp sought to respond, but the party refused to send the message, which says ...
And if Argenziano hadnt VOTED for the electric bill incease law- Energy 2006 bill Jeb trumped, I would take her seriously.
Fasano and Argenziano as State senators VOTED for the bill, and even though the discussion in the paper was months before passage, Chalrie Crist Atty General was a deaf mute! What do I want to hear from a monday morning quarterback who fumbled?
FPL agrees with Progress and TECO and locks in the rate freeze

Who are you Kevin? It was not isa Edgar, but Nancy Argenziano's own assistant Larry Harris. He was actually Harold McLean, the PSC general coiunsel for 4 years, during all their scandals that suggested McLean's asst as Nancy's. He was the one that gave Argenziano's cell phone pin to FP&L and communicated with FP&L himself.
Argenziano with Mike Twomey got rid of Karina McMurrian because she was next in line for Chairman. All Katrina did was be in the same room for a SYMPOSIUM as the FP&L chairman. She didnt even eat with him.
Of course, Mike Twomey has no job employment history for management. Lisa Edgar voted for another General Counsel.
Kevin, are you by chance Kevin BLOOM, the husband of Baez's asst Kathleen? Go home with your inuendo and lies.

I think we should go back to the 2006 Energy Bill and see who supported that electric increase from the State Congress. I seem to remember aDEP email from 2006 from Jeb Bush and DEP Director Castille and Mike Sole. The DEP cordinated the Energy Bill, that Senators Fasano and Argenziano voted for.
Aronberg is another McCollum and Crist. I think this time I want a REAL Atty General who doesnt wait for 5 other states to sue a Florida company before they join litigation. That has been McCollum and Crist. And Crist with Clayton Roberts as Manager, played Houdini with Butterworth filed investigations.
Guess Butterworth , after the State Rat PAck shooting him down for a State senatoe seat, doesnt care who he plays with as long as he eats and gets six figure jobs.
Aronberg ends positive, touts Butterworth connection

Mike Sole will be sorely missed by Charlie Crist. You see, Jeb had Mike Sole and Castille write the carbon issues that Crist promoted in his Governorship. As a matter of fact, maybe Mike Sole , after a consumer advocate's EPA Clean Water presentation, had a problem with EPA Director Ephraim King. Something about the Tom White water DEP Lab guy who challenged the Storet database, said the pollution was so high in the Everglades' US Sugar area. And he was fired!
And not to forget that awful email that Mike Sole got from EPA Richard Harvey that he forgot to share with the state of Florida...that the reservoirs were creating algae, and therefore in violation of the Clean water act. All of our reservoirs are impaired, including Tampa's Bill Young reservoir.
Maybe, just maybe, it's god awful worse with the rest of the gang still there.
I mean, did Jeb's gang think EPA would ignore enforcement forever of the Clean water act from big AG US Sugar et all? The Obama administration turned Florida upside down. Unless you talk to the PEER group, or Linda Young's group, you are clueless to how much pollution is in FLorida.
After oil spill, Mike Sole to leave DEP
Mike Sole, the well-regarded head of the Department of Environmental Protection, is leaving his post now that the Deepwater Horizon well is on the verge of being permanently capped. He is the first major department head to leave as Charlie Crist exits the governor's office. His departure is also...
Dont know who "check the records" is.
Lisa Edgar's DEIS to FERC was sent to all the news reporters. As DEP Deputy Director, with Struh as Director, this state challenge to federal oil drilling permitting questioned the rsearch of drilling muds. And discussed not charted (known to NOAA) fish estuary areas and deeper canal trenches of abundant fish canyons.
Under Struh and jeb, intially, Florida challenged oil drilling.
Obviously, most people dont know that 3 years later, Crist as AG and Jeb as Governor were allowing natural gas pipelines for Colonial and El Paso gas after Enron colapsed. Jeb pushed Castille in 2005-6 to finish Ken Lay- Enron's dream- the 42 mile pipeline connecting Bahamas to South Florida for LNG gas.
And Crist approved the pipelines endangering natural estuary areas. DEP Sole and Castille have emails from 2006-9 reviewing for the legislature the Destin areas for oil drilling and DEP Mike Sole's review of oil and gas driling in Alaska. The state Legislators and Governor's office wanted to EMULATE Alaska oil and gas drilling review to streamline Florida!!!
