Reich column
The arguments in favor of big government articulated by former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich in his July 20 column “Big government makes sense once understood” unwittingly make the opposite case. He writes that “most of what government does that helps average people is now so deeply woven i...
Let's watch the name-calling. The level of discourse around here is very troubling lately, and it drives other commenters away.
Obamacare scam
Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster recently announced that he was filing suit against John’s Butcher Shoppee in the St. Louis area for substitutions in some of their meats. During a news conference, Koster said, “Consumers should be able to trust that the products they buy are what the manuf...
The original version of this letter contained an error. Bikes are generally instructed to ride with traffic in Kansas and Missouri, though there are some restrictions. Pedestrians should walk on the left, facing traffic. There will be a correction in the Oct. 16 paper.

Folks, stop with the "idiot" and "moron" insults or comments will be closed on this letter. This is the final warning.
Health care reform
Open wide and say “ah,” America, because the left is going to jam government-run health care down your throat, like it or not. Many polls show Americans don’t like it. But never mind — the ruling elite, the American politburo, know what is best for you. And, for the few of you who actually do s...
Abbreviating profanity is unacceptable in all circumstances. Comments are closed on this letter permanently -- and keep things more civil.
Scouting open to all
I was recently with my 6-year-old son at a Cub Scout function at my church, St. Thomas More. We stumbled across the older Boy Scouts having a function of their own. I noticed a lady from the parish interpreting in sign language for a deaf Boy Scout and I asked another dad about it. The dad, Cha...
Folks, let's please refrain from personal insults and multiple replies at once.

No dueling unless it's with banjos.

OK, everybody. Let's discuss the letters with civility. No name-calling. And no dueling.
