Last Wednesday was our company white elephant party organized by our tireless party organizer Kimmie. This was the first white elephant we've had since the year we moved up to San Francisco where a nameless executive stole a toy from a young child in exchange for her $20 charity donation. The child cried and cried. There were no children and no tears this year I'm happy to say, but there were some executives who joined in the mix. Part of the fun we missed at our first white elephant were the challenges. When its your turn, you can either pick... Continue »

Last week John Cook at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer asked: What is it with the word ‘dango’ and internet companies?. Of course, there’s the online movie site Fandango. And then there’s Portland’s Jobdango and Seattle’s Zoodango. Now, a former Microsoft project... Continue »

Is it that obvious that I have a crush on Filmosophy? (Or does two links-in-one-week say more about Meg Ryan than it does about Filmosophy?) Anyway -- as previously mentioned, all this week Filmosophy is reviewing Meg Ryan movies. Today... Continue »

After last week's thoughts on Flickr -- the privacy of my children, not the silliness that ensued over merging of accounts -- I decided it was time to take my children's images out of the public domain. I didn't delete anything, I simply used Flickr's batch tools to change permissions on nearly 500 pictures. All of a sudden it dawned on me as I was wading through hundreds of photos of my kids that I've made decisions for them that has been completely irresponsible and selfish. What I find interesting about this is the chain of potential ah-ha moments the... Continue »

I noticed this on my way to work today... it's the bigass coca-cola sign, or WAS the bigass coca-cola sign. Now, I'm not the person who normally glorifies corporate marketing but I truly feel sad that this is being dismantled. To me it has nothing to do with coke, but rather it's a beacon for my experiences in dotcom San Francisco. And a magnificent example of neon-sign design which is harder and harder to come by these days. Coming here blind from Minneapolis in 1999, I had no inkling of what California was like except for a red hot chilli... Continue »

after much ado, my taun taun sleeping bag has finally arrived. miz ginevra is helping me deal with my joy in this picture. +pros+ - attached head pillow - inside lining is pale blue guts... makes me wanna take a nap just thinking about it - it fits adult humans (you might be able to fit salacious crumb, but the laughing will keep you up) - it's much cooler than a snuggie -cons- - there's no bag to put it in or straps to wrap it up with - it doesn't fit TWO adults unless they are my size and...
