It started out as a Monday like any other. Before lunch, the highlight of my day had been the homemade orange-and-almond biscotti that a coworker brought in. But, by the time lunch was over, this Monday had turned out to be the best I can remember! I was slowly working my way through the never-ending mountain of paperwork on my desk (working through lunch; we had a lot to catch up on), when I decided to check my email. By no means did I expect that email from Pengy to be sitting there in my inbox. But there it was...... Continue reading

:D Aw, meeting on myspace isn't embarrassing! But, I know how you feel... people always raise an eyebrow when I tell them we met in WoW. Good call on the Chuck Norris joke, though! I tried to think of a wedding related one for you, but failed. I'm not very quick tonight : )

By now, most of you know that B and I have been enduring the highly bureaucratic immigration process for the past five months trying to obtain his K-1 (Fiance) visa. As I’ve mentioned before, we’re very lucky that things have moved as speedily as they have; I’ve heard stories of cases taking upwards of two years before the Alien Fiance receives his/her visa. While five months may seem like nothing in comparison, the wait has been pretty difficult. Heck, it’s been downright excruciating. The irony of it all? B lives less than five minutes past the Canadian border! I mean,... Continue reading

On my way home from work tonight I was thinking about all of the alternative floral options about which I've recently blogged, and I realized that I have the materials in my house to make most of them. Or, at least make a mock-up or two of most of them. My first attempt at our prospective DIY flowers was a slight variation of these: source If you follow the "source" link, you'll find a tutorial. However, being the stubborn girl that I am, I attempted to make them without reading it. Yeah, I'm that girl-- the one who's tried to... Continue reading

As a sequel to my last post, in which I wrote about paper flowers and shared inspiration, I'll continue to share my ideas for alternative, DIY flowers... focusing on flowers made from objects you might find lying around your house. If you have a sewing kit, that is! I'm not sure where it was that I saw my first fabric flowers. Etsy, maybe. Those little organza flower hairpins have been popular for quite some time, after all. Anyway, I love the whimsical, DIY feel of colorful fabric flowers. These colorful blooms made with patterned quilting fabric have so much character!... Continue reading

I love flowers. I'll admit that I don't know much about them, but I do appreciate their beauty and it makes me happy to have them in a pretty vase on my kitchen table! What I don't love about flowers is their cost. Flowers are so expensive! I can imagine them eating, very quickly, through our very small budget. Originally our plan was to make all of our floral arrangements ourselves using flowers from the Los Angeles Flower District. That will mean we'll have A LOT of work to do just a few days before the wedding. The more I... Continue reading

Living in a small town definitely has its perks. So the closest Ikea or Crate and Barrel might be 200 miles away, but we are getting a Macy's, and our freeways will never look like this: {source} Sure, I have to drive two hours to find a Korean BBQ, but we have plenty of delicious (and authentic!) taco stands just around the corner! Anyway, it's taken me a while to embrace my town after moving from Los Angeles. I spent so much time focusing on what would no longer be available to me that I forgot to notice how much... Anyone who has experience with anything immigration related knows that everything, and by everything I mean EVERY SINGLE STEP of the process takes an EXCRUCIATING amount of time. From the moment you send in your first packet of forms, you wait. Aside from a notice that the Center of Immigration Services has received your paperwork, you don't hear anything until your petition is approved. In fact, they won't even talk to you about your file until six months has passed. Six months is an eternity when you're just waiting. I'd refresh my e-mail at LEAST 50 times a day, hoping... ...our invitations! One of the reasons I'm so excited about our "Hallowedding" party is that there really aren't any limitations to what we can do! Halloween is officially in 52 days. That's not a whole lot of time considering I have our actual wedding related projects in the works. My first priority is figuring out what we're going to do for our Halloween invitations; I only have a few weeks left until they'll need to be sent out. Here's where you come in! I have a handful of ideas for our invitations, but I just can't decide. If you were... Continue reading

Lollipop Events & Designs create the cutest, most original party and event designs that I've ever seen. I don't remember how I came across their website--I'm sure it was during one of my late-night blog hops--but their photo gallery has served as an endless source of inspiration for me. In fact, I nearly changed my colors after I saw their Barnyard Chic Wedding! One of the things that really stood out to me in their designs were the infinite amount of details that they included to pull the looks together. Also, I noticed that in more than one event they... A few days ago, Weddingbee reader Mrsv2bee posted a link to sneak-peak wedding photos on her photographer's blog. (Click on it! They're absolutely gorgeous pictures!) One photo of her hubby's perfectly styled groomsmen caught my eye: Don't they all look so handsome and modern in their light-colored suits and mismatched sneakers? I've known all along that I don't want our guys to wear traditional tuxes. I've always pictured light gray suits, stylish ties and red vans/converse. Fortunately, B is on board with this vision. Until today I hadn't really put any effort into searching for our ideal groomsman ensemble. I... Continue reading

With a classic Twilight Zone marathon serving as motivation, I turned to the internet to find inspiration for our Hallowedding (doesn't "Hallowedding" sound fun!?) I've never actually thrown a Halloween party before. In my head I imagine classy, Marthaesque decorations with tasty food and tastier drinks. I spent hours searching for inspiration and came out with a small bounty of photos that will lay the foundation for a memorable party to celebrate our nuptials. {Photo sources: Love-o-lanterns, tissue pom, bottle invites, tulle poms, pumpkin cooler, witches candy, pumpkin punch bowl, Halloween garland, brain cupcakes, luminaries} Now, I do want this... When I was little, my mom made me wait to pierce my ears until I was old enough follow the post piercing cleaning regimen on my own. On November 18, 1991, the day before I turned seven, mom took me to the mall, let me choose my studs and I got my ears pierced. I had earrings to go with every outfit. Cute little hearts, flowers, diamonds... fast forward eighteen years and my interest in earrings-- in jewelry in general has faded. The holes in my ears had been closed for years and despite the nagging from my mother (who... Continue reading

B and I have been very blessed with a smooth immigration process. We are fortunate enough to live within the jurisdiction of fast offices for both parts of the visa journey. In fact, the timeline for most Fiancé visas are six months; we just found out we’ll have the visa in hand in as little as three weeks. That’s four months since I mailed off our visa petition. I am SO beyond excited! B will be here by the end of this month, and I’m not going to have to say goodbye to him again for a long time. In... Continue reading

After all of the positive feedback I received on the boards over at Weddingbee, and the interest in the Cricut in general, I thought I'd put together a quick tutorial on how I made my save the date mock-up. I think I went a little overboard on the screenshots and photos... I definitely have a tendency to over explain! Here goes: I started out by making a simple design in Adobe Illustrator. By no means am I a graphic designer; I don't even know AI very well, but I know enough to scrape by. With the help of Martha and... Continue reading

I am now the proud owner of... A Cricut Expression complete with the Sure Cuts A Lot program!! I bought it the other night on a whim with no project in particular in mind. While it may not have been the wisest purchase, (especially when I have to pay a $260 dollar speeding ticket next month), I was SO EXCITED to get it home and start cutting. I'd only heard great things about the Cricut, and after seeing Miss Penguin's adorable stationery she made using it, I was sold. On my drive home I tried to come up with a... Continue reading

Long distance relationships are NOT easy. In fact, despite knowing early on that B was the one for me, this past year has probably been the most emotionally draining year that I can remember. A girl’s heart can only miss someone for so long! I do admit that we’ve been fortunate enough to have the money and vacation time to visit each other once every few months. I can’t even begin to imagine how these women that go years without seeing their SOs handle the inevitable sadness that comes with an LDR. If I went back to August 18, 2008... Continue reading

One year ago today, an unassuming e-mail from B happened to be signed with, "I've got a crazy question for you... want to be my girlfriend?" B and I met in an online video game that we both played, started "dating" before having met in person, and by the end of his first visit I knew that he was it. Then he went home. Three months went by before our next visit. Two months before the visit after that, then another two. It's been a month and a half since I've seen him last, and although an end to this... I feel bad that my little corner of the internet has been neglected for the past few weeks. My sister had been visiting from Las Vegas with my niece. I really found it hard to motivate myself to blog when I had this Little Precious to kiss and play with! I will admit that I am still 100% in the idea stage of wedding planning. I think I have some pretty definite concepts of what I want, but I know that at nine months out any of that can change. I find it really hard to commit to some of... Continue reading

I didn't have a traditional proposal. I was not surprised with a ring. B did not get down on one knee. There were no tears or screams of excitement. Really, our engagement began with the decision to finally start our fiance visa paperwork. I am completely fine with that. In fact, because we did it that way I was able to choose my own engagement ring. I love B with all my heart and I'm sure he would have chosen a lovely ring, but I am VERY picky when it comes to the jewelry that I wear. I chose my... Continue reading

Thank you so much! The sewing was actually much easier than I thought it would be. I made about six of them, and each took about three minutes to sew. I had tried sewing paper a while back for an unrelated project and it wasn't sucessful... but my sewing machine was on it's last leg as it was. My new sewing machine worked perfectly and I really couldn't be happier with them.
