Yummm, seems the Olo'eyktan of the Avatar Hometree has changed to the RDA. My posts do not longer appear there, even just linking to organisations for protection of tribal cultures are not unlocked. Sad indeed. Farewell, brothers and sisters! Continue reading

good to see that some here are not distracted by all the oscar and merchandise crap. good to see that some here are not fleeing into fantasy worlds only, but try to make others "See" the truth. Thank you, Pandora Bound!

Oh and here the malaysian police, using teargas against the Penan, defending their forest. Does that sound a bit familiar? And people care about Oscars and Na'Vi language... that is sad. Very sad.

You can say that almost all labels beside the FSC (forest stewardship council) are faked. Tropical timber without FSC label should not be used - and even that with care. Regarding palm oil: i do not know of any secure source for fairly produced palm oil. Just do not use it (or products with it).

You want pics? Okay, you get pics! This is a picture of Bruno Manser, a Jake Sully of real life: - fighting with the Penan people in Borneo against timber companies and palm oil farms, - accepted into their tribe, - missed since 2000 (most likely killed by the companies). I don’t know if he found his “Neytiri” there… but he found the place and people where he wanted to live and for whom he felt it was worth fighting for. There’s even a film about him, dating back 3 years: “Bruno Manser – Laki Penan”. More pics on that guy here: http://outnow.ch/Movies/2007/BrunoManser-LakiPenan/ The Na’vi and Pandora are just plain wonderful and I would so very much like them to be real. But it’s the Penan (and many other natives) here on earth that need our help for survival. We can help in a lot of ways. Just as one example: Don’t buy products with palm oil or tropical timber, as long as the deforestation in Borneo (and elsewhere) is going on and as long the nomadic natives’ right for living a self-sustainable life on their own land is not respected! I still wonder if J.Cameron saw that film or knew otherwise - about Bruno Manser…

oh yeah. Do you think "getting things" is the way to do something for earth not becoming the place it is in "Avatar"?

thank you. much more important than all that picture and oscar and language stuff!
About the Oscars: I really dont care. What the hell are they important for? Will they help with rainforest protection? Will they help the native people of brazil, malaysia, indonesia? So what the %&"$) is all that about the oscars?... Continue reading

Completely understand that. Read my reply under Barontom's post a little bit after yours (higher up). if you want to "make a difference", you have to leave internet for most of your time. You must connect to people in real life, in your town or region. Still, please go on an post your opinions here - if you make one or two more persons change their mind (so that they do something real instead of posting pics, learning fake languages or such), it will be a start for them. You may go to mongabay.com and other sites and see how many groups in real life are working to protect remaining rainforests and people. Join one of them!
Those who want to to something really helpful, must leave the internet (at least for most of their time) and connect to other people in real life. There are a lot of good organizations for protection of rainforests and indigenious people. look at mongabay.com

Yeah it's easier to dream of nice jungles in a fantasy world 4 lightyears away than to realize what is happening here on earth. It's much nicer to learn an artificial language and entertain yourself than to get out, learn the language of (just as example) an amazon indian tribe and help them protect their lands and forest ... Sad.

Yes Danann, totally correct. It's hypocritical, and sad. But i am not surprised. Who needs SSB ("sugar sweetened beverages") and such stuff anyway? It's just addictive, unhealthy crap. Main reason for obesity and diabetics and therefore causing a lot of pain and death (too). They literally walk over corpses for their profits - as do all big organizations where responsibility is divided in so many small parts that no one has to take any of it.
fashion... ummm! fashion = new clothes when last seasons's are still very good = producing unnecessary waste... You see where this is totally contradicting Avatar's message?

And oh ... in my opinion we did not take the wrong turn in middle age or after that. We took it in the neolithic revolution (smaller mistake) and with the "invention" of monotheism by the goat herders in middle east (bigger mistake). First was transforming us from pure consumers (Na'Vi-style) to producers (very good for population growth, bad for health and freedom), second broke our connection to Gaia.
Sabertooth: some people are doing more than just something - it's fortunately not true that nobody cares. Just too few yet... go to www.mongabay.com and have a look there! Matt: funny idea heh. But medieval people would not be able to understand anything from Avatar at all - their mind's horizon was so far away from ours. Not saying ours is better or worse, just very very different. Don't blame middle age for the witch burnings though. Almost all of them happened after middle age ended!
LOL that EMP idea is funny. Steam machines would still do their job ;) How unfortunate that bigger EMP up to this day can be made by atomic bombs only - so be careful with your wishes, they sometimes come true...
humans just following orders, no matter how inhumane they are, are a plague. As would be Na'Vi, following that same orders. Please accept that it does not depend on being Na'Vi or human to be good or bad - it depends on what they do! Everything else is just plain racism.
