He's not complete. He lacks Pass blocking and he still dances. He's a 3rd down back in the NFL.
Is Graig Cooper finally a complete back?
Graig Cooper has came a long way since arriving at UM the spring of 2007. He's no longer the freshman who answered all questions by saying he doesn't get caught up in all the "hype." He speaks with the media after losses, something he rarely did during his inexperienced days. After Saturday's ...
B.S. excuses and Spin. Just more excuses by Randy to explain why he can't motivate the team and continue to fall flat in the ACC. Fortson (just like Sapp according to Randy) was having a horrible season. Ryan Hill, really, career back-up. Moncour hasn't been part of the team for the last 2 seasons. Ojomo hurts but he's been gone all season so he was never in the equation. Ray Ray, JoJo, and Futch back-ups. Spence is the only guy that hurts he was starting to play better. Pat Hill a fullback, really, isn't why the team is FLAT every game late in the season. Randy needs to just win the last 4 games and stop making excuses before the games. He is a horrible leader and we will NEVER win a championship with him as coach. This team is good enough to win every game on the schedule but they can't because of Randy Shannon.
Injuries have made this a "different team."
CORAL GABLES _UM coach Randy Shannon slowly went down the list of the players. Ryan Hill. Marcus Forston. Sean Spence. Pat HIll, JoJo Nicolas. Eric Moncur. Ray Ray Armstrong. Those are some of the players who have missed games with injuries. Most have been out multiple weeks or will miss the r...
Just win. Can't wait to see how the season finishes out.
Will UM avoid another late-season stumble?
Randy Phillips laughed at my question even though I didn't mean for it to sound funny. If you had to estimate the level of pain you are playing with -- what would you say it is? Instead of answering the question, Miami's senior safety showed me how much his torn labrum and rotator cuff limit his...
The loss is to reminiscent of the last 2 seasons to blame the new coordinators. The same problems exist as in the previous seasons, and yet again Randy Shanon gets out coached. Enough points were scored but the bad defense is the downfall once again. Randy Shannon will never win big consistently if at all.
Grading The Canes: Clemson
I couldn't make it to Saturday's game -- I had a wedding -- but I spent my Sunday night breaking down the game on my DVR. Before I get to the grades, a few thoughts: -- My overwhelming sense from this game was a flat out lack of aggression and confidence from the Canes, whose reputation has al...
Make all the excuse you want. We will never win big consistently with Randy Shannon as the head coach. Continue to blame coordinators but there is only 1 constant in the poor performances over the last few years a defense that is either hit or miss. Randy Shannon is a recruiter and all his position coaches are recruiters not solid FBS football coaches.
Clemson thoughts
MIAMI GARDENS _ After the game, Jacory Harris said it was his toughest loss during his UM career. Hard to blame him, considering what the Hurricanes lost in the 40-37 defeat to Clemson. The ACC title hopes are all but gone. Unless Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech both have late-season collapses, ...
If McCarthy is to hurt to practice he should not have played vs FAMU. McCarthy doesn't start although he's been the most consistent defender along with B. Harris. Let the season play out Randy will find a way to lose a few games because of his shenanigans.
Shoulder injury could end season for DT Marcus Forston
CORAL GABLES _UM coach Randy Shannon didn't sound too optimistic about the future of defensive tackle Marcus Forston. On Sunday, Shannon said Forston could possibly miss the remainder of the season. A source said Fortson has a shoulder injury. After an impressive freshman season, he has yet to ...
I am born a Cane. I'm goning to die a Cane. Randy Shannon is a horrible head coach, and he was an overrated defensive coordinator. He can recruited. There is so much evidence I'm not going to sit write 500 word essay but if the choice is between Mark Whipple or Randy Shannon at the end of the season. We should keep Mark Whipple and let Randy talk about the past.
A victory tonight would boost Randy Shannon's rep
The Internet is a wonderful thing for anyone involved in sports. Information is ready available for players, coaches, fans and media. Just a few days ago, while surfing the `Net, I came across an item on the Atlanta Journal Constitution website. One of my favorite writers, columnist Mark Br...
Fox didn't play a good game, and Pipho was horrible. Fox got beat on the play were Jacory had to spin out of the sack for the play to Benjamin. Pipho was horrible missed EVERY block in the run game and couldn't pass block anyone.
Player Progress Report
We had a lot of fun this summer counting down the Top 60 players at UM. But now that we're in season, I figured we could keep the theme rolling week-to-week with our very own Player Progress Report. This Top 10 list will take into account what the players do over the course of the season and w...
Randy Shannon is a fool. He continues to not play his best players and treat a college team like a bad highschool team. If Vernon is better than the guys left he should start. If Spence and Telemaque is better the the guys ahead of them they should start. Waiting 4 games or giving sorry upperclass starts and playing time is dumb and pointless and why we loss. Willie Cooper, Khalil Jones should have never started a game at Miami but they did. Khalil Jones starting last season over Bryd, Benjamin, and A. Johnson is stupid. Honestly Hankerson shouldn't be starting over Bryd or Johnson. Unless Vernon is injured he should be the starter. Randy Shannon needs to stop with the highschool play my upperclassmen crap.
Shannon talks injuries, FSU, QBs
We all figured Adewale Ojomo was going to be out for awhile, but we finally got confirmation from coach Randy Shannon that senior Eric Moncur will not lineup against the Seminoles Monday night. Shannon told reporters during his ACC Teleconference an hour ago that Moncur and Ojomo were the only ...
The issue is the depth and Shannon's inability to keep players happy at the most important positions on the field.
Did the QB situation really change that much?
Is the sky really falling in Coral Gables? It sure seems like it after the way folks reacted to Tuesday's big news. Backup quarterbacks Taylor Cook and Cannon Smith left the program in search of more playing time elsewhere. Without Cook or Smith, the Hurricanes have absolutely no depth behind s...
Forston needs to stop the run. It seems he only wants to get after the qb.
Top 60 Countdown: No. 14, DT Marcus Forston
Another day, another promising Canes player to talk about on our countdown of the Top 60 currently at UM. Today, we look at No. 14 on our list: Sophomore defensive tackle Marcus Forston. In high school, there weren't many more talented and hyped recruits in the nation in 2008. After a strong fre...
I like James more than Cooper but J. James hasn't been healthy his entire career.
Graig Cooper should be the boss in the backfield
Graig Cooper wants to be UM's next 1,000-yard rusher. That's the goal the guy wearing No. 2 has set for himself this coming season even though it hasn't happened at the University of Miami since 2002 when another guy who wore No. 2, Willis McGahee, finished fourth in the Heisman voting with 1,...
Cooper will be better this year. He has improved every season.

Chambers should have played over Derron Thomas. There is no excuse. We played freshmen who weren't ready all over the field and we basically forfeited the game vs NCST because Randy wanted to play seniors longer than there ability and talent deserved. Randy has favorites and those guys play regardless of talent, skill, or ability. That's why Glenn Cook last season and Willie Cooper start all season regardless of mistakes. Chambers is not one of his favorites and he might as well transfer because he's not going to get any carries. Chambers has ability and doesn't dance in the back field like Cooper but the writing is on the wall if he wants to play he has to transfer. A lot us accept Randy's shenanigans we just want to win with him or with out him.
Top 60 Countdown: No. 44, RB Lee Chambers
Time to move forward again in our countdown of the Top 60 players at the University of Miami. We examine No. 44: Sophomore running back Lee Chambers. The Canes have had a crowded backfield the past few years and Chambers hasn't had much room to shine. He finally did in the Emerald Bowl. But will...
He was dominant in the spring game. The stats are nice but the disruptions was on every play. He should start. Regardless, we have a deadly group of DE's and if our DT's play better we'll have a great d-line.
Top 60 Countdown: No. 45, DE Olivier Vernon
As we inch closer to midway point in counting down the Top 60 players at the University of Miami, we inspect No. 45 on our list: Freshman defensive end Olivier Vernon. The local product enrolled in January and turned heads this spring with his speed and agility getting to the quarterback. How go...
It has been to many quality players have the college career ruined because of position changes. R. Gordon, R. Hill, S. Sheilds, and D. Berry all have switch position but never shined.
Top 60 Countdown: No. 48, RB Damien Berry
As we move forward in our countdown of the Top 60 players at Miami, we zero in on No. 48: Running back Damien Berry. Another guy who has switched positions at UM, is Berry -- the son of a former Cane -- going to get lost in the shuffle at running back? Or, will he finally get a chance to show us...
Harris has a lot to prove this season.
McGriff the db coach should be fired. They have been the worst position group and has shown the least development.
Top 60 Countdown: No. 20, CB Brandon Harris
As we inch closer to toward the top spot in the countdown of the top 60 players at the University of Miami, we hit No. 20: CB Brandon Harris. The South Florida product and younger brother of former UM track star Tim Harris came to UM with high expectations. Will he live up to them? > What we ...
He might be consistently average. He never opens up holes or holds his blocks. The fact its his senior year and now the coaches are looking for him to contribute answer how productive a player he has been.
Top 60 Countdown: No. 21, C AJ Trump
As we move ahead in our countdown of the Top 60 players at UM, we hit No. 21: Center A.J. Trump. The senior has been hampered by injuries in his career, but will be counted on heavily heading into his senior season. > What we heard about him on Signing Day '05: At Clearwater Central Catholic,...
Trump has been horrible thus far and I don't see how it will change in a offseason for a guy coming into his senior year.
Say what you want about Charlie Jones but he is one of the few players to speak out about how the coaching transition played out internally.
Former `Canes RB Charlie Jones defends `04-05 recruits
When Charlie Jones arrived at UM in 2004, he felt everything was going as expected. Things changed for him, and the rest of the players from the 2004 and 2005 recruiting classes, when the coaching staff began to unravel. In response to those critical of the Hurricanes' recent recruiting woes,...
Players haven't gotten better in the past years, but it takes competition everyday at practice to push guys get better. To many positions were given away because of a lack of depth and Coker's recruiting strategy of giving guys the job instead of the having to earn it. It's tough to totally judge Randy until the end of the new season.
Was player development the issue?
Yesterday the Sun Sentinel ran a story discussing UM's recruiting failures the past six years. Recruiting coordinator Clint Hurtt talked how the staff focused too much on recruiting services for information instead of their own evaluating. His comments drew some interesting responses. Most fe...
