Google Talk randomly removed the file transfer function without any notice. File transfers to me say they're withdrawn by my friend, my friend is told I denied the transfer (neither of us even touch the window in the process). Upon searching which took over an hour to find, I came across an employee's post in this thread that says "oh yeah we've removed file transfer in favor of our cloud services, thanks for your support" Their cloud services that have terrible terms of use that grant Google rights to your shared files. Super. That's not a feature and I'd expect a reasonable announcement or a software upgrade removing the "Transfer File" button. https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!msg/chat/nuaBNh4qzQA/r9PIwh7qL7IJ
I've been so annoyed by google as of late I'm ready to start using competing services.
Google is making a huge and annoying mistake.
I like Google Plus. Some of the smartest people I've ever read are on Google Plus, and the Hangout is amazing. But Google is doing everything it can to force Google Plus on everyone, and it's pissing me off. Yesterday, I tried to like a video on YouTube. I wasn't signed in to my Google Plus acco...
She also mentioned in the prior post she's working on a book and updates would be sparse. Hopefully that's the only thing, because I very much want to support her efforts!
Shockwave Flash on my Macintosh
The Ken Jennings meeting was hilarious, I was right behind him and kept thinking "Is it? Nah. Well he IS local. Huh, maybe." The resultant nerd squee from both of you plus the cameo over the table from Jonathan Frakes was very fun to witness!
I'd also like to say thanks for letting just a couple more come through the closed sign, at least according to the volunteer who told that to me. I figured it was special treatment for (who I suspected was) Ken Jennings but somehow I got lumped in the group anyway. Maybe it was because Felicia and Amy still had longer lines just before the Guild panel. Either way, I had already resolved that I would wait out for your next visit to PAX Prime, so that was a nice surprise. Thanks for visiting Seattle come back soon!
Emerald City Comicon after action report
ECCC has officially joined PAX on the List of Conventions I Don't Ever Want To Miss. It's well-organized, staffed by competent and friendly volunteers, and has what is, in my opinion, the perfect balance of comics and popular geek culture. This year, I had to leave Saturday afternoon to fly home...
Too bad I was just in Germany a few months ago visiting my grandma and extended family, Düsseldorf is only 45 minutes away from them, but I think my boss would frown on a sudden vacation to Europe again so soon.
Nevertheless I'm thrilled you're coming back to ECCC!
a few programming and personal appearance notes
If everything goes according to plan, I should release Hunter later today. It's 2500 words, about the length of what you'd read in a magazine, I think, and I'm pricing it at 99 cents, for people who want to buy it. I'll eventually put it here or wil wheaton books for free, for those of you who a...
I hope you enjoy your time at PAX the way the rest of us get to experience it. Everyone deserves their time to veg! It will also be infinitely more awesome if I happen to end up next to you in a demo line or something!
My 2010 PAX Prime Schedule
When I was at GenCon last month, I signed autographs and stuff for close to six hours a day. I got to meet a lot of people (and took home about ten pounds of dice!) but I hardly got to see any of the con, and I got to play a grand total of three games while I was there. I’ve been working my ass ...
I've been taking part in a 10-week body sculpt challenge at a local gym, little bit of strength a little bit of kick boxing and MMA, a lot of fun! I'm in week 6 and have been diligently tracking calories on my iphone and finally got a friend to track their calories along with me. Now frequently we compare at the end of the day how many calories over or under we were. A little bit of razzing always motivates! After reading your post yesterday, I got clever and remembered I had some d20 in my work bag from a gumball machine full of dice at PAX Prime last fall. I rolled that d20 when someone showed up with a plate of Specialty's cookies in the office (300 cal a piece eek!) and rolled a 5. Unfortunately for the cookie it won't be on a journey to my tummy and I'll make the better choice by eating the Luna bar in my drawer. I think I'll start keeping that d20 handy for when I'm out with friends and someone says "oooh ICE CREAM!"
It turns out I had a fairly geeky weekend
In an effort to force myself out of this non-creative, unmotivated funk I've been in post-Eureka, I now commence a braindump from this weekend: I pressed the plunger down on my coffee press and tried to clear the sleep from my eyes while Anne put the orange juice back into the fridge. The mornin...
While downloading today's episode in iTunes I checked out Fremont Coffee's website and I'm thrilled to have a new coffee house to go try a few miles down the road! Thanks for the tip, wading through all the coffee houses in Seattle can be daunting sometimes!
Radio Free Burrito: Episode Twenty-Six
Holy Crap, it's time for a new episode of Radio Free Burrito! At long last, the planets align, I have time and ideas, and the GDMF construction next door is quiet. Show Notes: The logo was designed by WWdN:iX reader Marc, who asked that I not link to his "in progress" website. Thanks, Marc! Ra...
I thought the Awesome Hour was indeed Awesome! You're a great performer and despite the fact that there were 1,500 people in that room, I felt like you were one of my friends telling a great story in my living room. I listen to Radio Free Burrito and have a copy of Memories of the Future, so I've heard both stories , but that didn't matter because the experience was great! A lot like seeing your favorite band play your favorite song in concert. Super start to my first Comicon and weekend of soaking up geek. Can't wait to see you at PAX Prime!
the obligatory emerald city comicon post
Now that I'm home from Seattle, I'm right back to editing and rewriting and obsessively perfecting my PAX East keynote, but before I can give that the focus it requires, I need to talk a little bit about this year's Emerald City Comicon. First, the good: The dungeon delve I wrote and ran was rea...
In high school I was the "nerd adjacent" girlfriend showing interest... now 8 years, two PAXs, and said boyfriend long behind me I enjoy many things nerd! You never know what you might spark. I love being the nerd in the office full of girls concerned with high fashion and shoes. :)
Radio Free Burrito: Episode Twenty-Two
Holy Crap, it's time for a new episode of Radio Free Burrito! I had a ridiculously good time putting this show together, even though I didn't plan any of the stuff that ended up being so fun to create. Show Notes: The logo was designed by WWdN:iX reader Marc, who asked that I not link to his "...
Long time listener, first time caller... er, commenter.
Just wanted to say thank you for this episode even if brief this week. I downloaded it as soon as I got home from work to enjoy before leaving for a weekly bar trivia night with my friends. Your mention of Patrick Stewart being knighted earned our team, Awkward Spooning, a surefire point! Most of our group had been off the grid a while during the holidays so our current events round really suffered. After writing down a bunch of BS answers on our sheet for that round it was nice to know we got at least one point for sure thanks to you.
Keep up the good work, I look forward to what next week brings!
Radio Free Burrito: Episode Eighteen
Holy Crap, it's time for a new episode of Radio Free Burrito! I'm not going to lie to you, Marge, I've been having a rough few days, so this show is uncharacteristically brief. Hopefully, it's still ... interesting. Hey, remember when I said "interesting" every five minutes on RFB? I don't reall...
