I recently tried going to an 8+ gallon fermenter for my 5-gallon batches, and I'm never going back. Haven't needed a blow-off hose yet using the larger primary, even with highly oxygenated wort and very active yeast. The krausen never quite hits the top. Much easier, in my opinion! :-)
In which Anne and I make beer
I got into bed around 2300 last night. Anne followed a few minutes later, and was asleep a few minutes after that. I stayed awake reading until about 130, which is something I’ve been doing the last couple of weeks. I can’t fall asleep before 130, no matter how hard I try, so rather than fight i...
Your Radio Free Burrito site is currently having some troubles. I was able to access it via Google's cache though, and the link to the MP3 itself (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/files/033-rfb.mp3) still seems to work.
There's a new episode of Radio Free Burrito
These puppies want you to listen to Radio Free Burrito. So from time to time, I make this stupid podcast called Radio Free Burrito. It's this thing that I do because it's creative and entertaining to me, and is an easy way for me to amuse myself and hopefully share some interesting things ...
LOL, there was actually a few seconds of video with Yuri where he wasn't eating something!! :-D
Tabletop's Castle Panic Gag Reel
This whole thing makes me laugh a whole lot. Thanks for watching! Hope you get to play some games with your friends this weekend, because that's what I'm doing on Saturday. Yaay!
I'll just leave this here:
Kings win the Stanley. Freaking. Cup.
I was 12 or 13, the first time I went to a hockey game. It was the old purple and gold Kings, at the Forum, against (I think) the Flyers. It would have been around 1983 or 1984, and a though I can't recall much about the game, a few things are clear in my memory: The Forum was not even half ful...
I always end up missing all the cons for various reasons, even PAX, and that one is only a few hours away by train or car. *sigh*... Long live the d12! It just has such a pleasing shape. The perfect balance between pointy and roundy. :-P
Memories of the Phoenix Comicon 2012
In about 22 hours, I leave for Origins Game Fair in Ohio. I've wanted to go to this convention since I was in high school, and I'm really excited to finally be attending. Felicia and I are doing a bunch of TableTop stuff, and the organizers have even set aside time in our busy schedules for some...
Another excellent episode! I've been lucky enough so far that at least one in my group of extended nerd friends has the games that have been featured so far, so I haven't put myself in the poor house buying all these games.
Double kudos to Oliver White for the quadruple facepalm. That is hilarious!
New Tabletop! Ticket to Ride with Colin Ferguson, my wife Anne, and our friend Amy!
I am especially geeked out in this episode. I mean, switch to decaf, Wheaton. As always, you can watch this is glorious HIGH DEFINITION at YouTube. Please subscribe, like, and tell your friends to do the same... we'd really like to get a second season.
Another excellent episode! I'll second what others have said, you've definitely improved in the host role. The show is just as good, or better, when you're more relaxed and not trying to be "on", and seem to be more focused on enjoying the games and awesome, nerd-gasm inducing company.
This and Ms. Day's Flog have become two of my all-time favorite web-based shows.
New Tabletop! Get Bit, Tsuro, and Zombie Dice! Ryan Higa! Rod Roddenberry! Freddie Wong!
These quick casual games are so much fun to play, and they're a great infection vector for getting your friends to try out gaming. Enjoy! If you can't see the embed, or you want to watch it in glorious full screen, go directly to YouTube. Oh, and if you like it, please give us a thumbs up and...
I just gave making my own a shot. It worked great. :-) Steps I followed:
1) Create a QR code to whatever you want, with 30% error correction enabled. Lots of online places, I just Googled "qr generator error correction" and picked one.
2) Cut out the image you want to overlay, convert to black and white and then stylize/simplify it. I used Photoshop's "Sketch\Stamp" filter, and bumped up the contrast.
3) Paste your stylized image over your QR code, shrink it down so it's covering less than 30% of the image. Make sure there's a little white space around it, and don't cover the corner boxes.
Alternatively, just Google: add image to qr code
go on... scan it...
I'd totally knee-cap someone for Wil Wheaton, just sayin'... Can you at least close the payment method and get a refund on those items in the meantime? Most credit card companies are pretty good about fraud, not so sure about other payment methods through the Kindle.
Someone found my Kindle on the airplane this weekend. I'd really like it back.
I left my Kindle on an airplane this weekend (post-convention exhaustion will do that to you), and someone found it. I know that someone found it, because they've been using my account to buy games and books. Based on the purchases, I'm fairly sure the person who found my Kindle (which is named ...
I'm curious how that actually works? DST doesn't change how many hours of daylight there actually are in a day (that'd be a neat trick!), it just offsets when it happens by 1-hour. How does that really help?
Insomniac Theater: The Rock-afire Explosion
Unless I'm working on a show that requires me to get up at a normal hour to get to the set, I usually sleep for about eight hours, starting at one in the morning. When we do the stupid goddamn Daylight Saving Time*, it's really hard for me to get to sleep before two in the morning, which annoys ...
Queue some card-carrying PETA folks harassing you about the cat comment...
Sounds like an interesting film, just added to my ever-growing Netflix queue, thanks!

+1
Because it will give me an excuse to buy and own and wear an ascot.
Last night, I was out having a drink with a friend of mine. Because we are both nerds and writers, our conversation steered into nerdy writer territory and stayed there. It was unseasonably warm, so we sat on an outdoor patio -- one of the few that isn't rendered useless to me by an army of smok...
I might actually see a movie in the theater's again, if it came with this little treat.
<pedant>Also, volume increase and decrease is merely a side effect of a constant sound at variable distance... The Doppler effect is the increase and subsequent decrease in pitch (or sound frequency, if you insist), not volume! :-P </pedant>

Well, port ("home", Earth!) and starboard (off to the stars) actually makes a hell of a lot more sense on the ISS than it does on water faring craft, in my opinion!!
In which I am easily amused (again)
A few days ago, I saw this awesome thing that happened: Japanese astronaut Satoshi Furukawa flew 220 miles into space to play with toys. His recent stay on the International Space Station included several hours of building a Lego version of his orbiting abode. When it was done, it looked somet...
Can't say it much better than any of the other comments so far... We're here because we like you and your work. Your kindness shows through in your writing. Thank you for taking a stand against abuse! If the opportunity ever arose, I'd take a punch for you from one of the other 2%. ;-)
In which I realize I need to say Thank You...
On Sunday, I was personally offended that Chris Brown performed at the Grammys. Violence against anyone is never okay, but the quiet acceptance of violence against women we see all over the world is especially reprehensible to me. Allowing someone who beat his girlfriend so severely she was hosp...
