Thanks for spending time with us, Zoe.
Little Dog
For something that was so long in coming, it all went down very fast. Zoe had been doing great. A stellar patient. When originally diagnosed, she was given thirty days. That was almost nine months ago. Performing way beyond the challenges facing her. She chased the ball every morning. Ate...
Oh my goodness, congratulations! You guys are the best :)
Once Upon a Time...
Fifteen years ago, my dreams came true... It was a beautiful day, just like today, filled with promise and happiness and love. And a little mischief. I thought all of the photographers were in front of us. But with twenty-seven of them there? This shot was on the internet by the next mo...
:( I just don't know what to say. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this but I'm glad she's still here for right now.
Life's a Box of Chocolates
And I just got the icky maple cream one. It's official. Zoe has cancer. A couple of weeks ago, we took her to Park Avenue Animal Hospital for a bone biopsy. Carolyn McCutcheon has been taking care of my mongrel hoard for many, many years. I trust her and respect her. She's a bit of a Ho...
Oh, that picture of Hud and Carmen is just too much.
I'm so sorry. But I've said it before and I'll say it one more time, she truly had the best owners in the world.
Also, I hope Hud's eye is doing well.
His One True Love
One day, before our wedding, Hud and I decided to take a walk in Overton Park. As we approached, we saw a trio of runners trying to corral a fluffy yellow dog, without success. As one of them reached for the dog, it looked up, spotted me and came running swiftly through the traffic. Cars were...
Yay, what a great birthday!
Fiddy
Yesterday has come and past. I am well into the second day of my fifty-first year. That's right. Yesterday was my fiftieth birthday. The celebration of making through my fiftieth year on earth. Yes, I wore my tiara. Shut up! If I can't wear it that day, when can I? Okay, well I do have ...
Ha, dog math! Makes sense to me. That's crazy about acupuncture! However, I do tend to forget that dogs are usually better about, you know, leaving their home and going somewhere new. With cats I just get the MROOOW MROOWWW MROOOW in the car, making me feel horrible. Speaking of which, I had to reschedule Cin's next appt, and made it for a day that Jesse could take him in instead of me..hehe. Since he's started calling Cinnamon "his" cat, I'll gladly let him take his cat to the vet.
Oh, but we have the cutest little girls IN LOVE with my sweet Cinnamon. They come around the apartment complex and go, "CINNAMON!! MEOW MEOW!" We came home on Saturday to a handwritten note that said, "We think your cat ran away we searched for him everywhere and we think Cinnamon ran away" and they included their apt and phone # as well. My sister (who lives next door) got a note that said, "Have you seen a blond kitty" and they apparently knocked on most the doors in the complex. My sister came out and told me the girls were riding their scooters around, scared the crap out of Cinnamon, so she let him inside and he took a nap on her couch. I went over to the girls' house and explained that he gets to come inside as well so he won't always be outside to play, and sometimes he might just be a little surprised by their scooters. They were very concerned.
The next day there was a much smaller note that said, "I love you Cinnamon, love (name removed), I love you Cinnamon." I'm glad those two girls desperately in need of a kitty to love on can share mine.
And On the Next Episode of Hoarders...
Hud and I spent the gorgeous Sunday afternoon doing an event called Paws for a Cause at the Shops of Saddlecreek. There were pet bakers, pet stores, pet accupuncturists, pet photographers, pet painters and of course, the rescue groups. We were immediately to the right of the Greyhound Rescue Gr...
Squeeeee!! That is so exciting! I caught up on your blog a week or so ago, but didn't have the time to comment.
Pet acupuncture? I'd never heard of that. Were there animals having it done? I'm assuming the animal would have to be rather used to it to allow someone to do that to him (I could just see Cinnamon now...).
Those stories of rescues just breaks my heart, but I'm so glad they are getting their second life with wonderful owners.
And what is this "Arizona doesn't allow dogs" excuse people pull? I'm curious!
I've missed you! Glad you've been updating more.

What a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I was thankful for Jesse, my friends and family, um...I can't remember a good portion of my list, so put something profound in here, Cinnamon turning 16, my job, Legally Blonde, and that I'm not in prison. It's been a good year!
Doubly Thankful
This year, we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving by having a few drinks with the ducks. The mallard was being particularly randy, putting up a rooster tail of water as he chased the hens about the basin of the fountain. The spread that the Peabody puts forth is not to be equaled. We had fried ...
What a beautiful wedding!
By the way, I was the flower girl at my brother's wedding and was a bubbling mess the whole time (I was 8). For whatever reason, I thought because he was getting married that I wouldn't ever see him again after the day was over and I cried the entire time on stage. Us kids in the weddings are a sensitive bunch!
Till Death Us Do Part
A couple of weeks ago we spent a glorius morning at my favorite cemetary witnessing two dear friends say their vows. It was a gorgeous fall day. The leaves sprinkled down on them like confetti during the ceremony. Keith and Donna made a handsome couple. My favorite part of the reception ...
I used to have two parakeets when I was a kid, and we got so used to them chirping all the time, we never noticed it. We'd have people over and they would say, "So, they just kind of chirp the whole time, don't they?"
Social Climbers
Mozelle and Floyd recently redecorated their home. Floyd would do anything for Mozelle. He sings to her, brings her bits of food. Preens her pretty green feathers. I have to keep reminding him that she's just not that into you. So Floyd has been saving up and finally could afford to get ...
Oh my gosh, those fast food outfits are too funny!!!
Suiting Up
Happy Halloween! The kids are all excited trying to figure out what to wear tonight. Simone can't decide whether to be a debutante... Or a scary three headed Cerberus monster. Zoe is going as a horse... For the Headless Horseman! But Zali thinks they should all go as something better... ...
I know I don't have a problem shedding a few tears! Sometimes you just gotta.
Carmen still looks sweet as ever. Again, I think you guys are the bees knees when it comes to being pet owners.
Lately I feel as it I'm made up of spare parts....
Lately I feel as it I'm made up of spare parts. I'm all extra elbows, knocking knees and pigeon toes. Clumsily knocking into corners. Dropping glasses. Tripping over rugs. You can tell where I am in the house by the CRASH! TUMBLE! DAMMIT! sounds. Perhaps I'm channelling my inner Carkeys. Sh...
What fun! I love how unique all those houses are.
And I know what you mean about males. Constantly on our walks I have to go, "Jesse, no! You just peed on that mailbox, we got places to be, son."
Hein Bark
Just about every evening now when Hud gets home from work, we take Zali and Simone on a little run around Hein Park. It's a charming little neighborhood in the middle of the city and across the street from Schyterbolle. The majority of homes were built in the early twenties right after they mo...
Haha, hungry eyes if I ever saw them!
Again, happy anniversary, you guys! Also, I had duck for the first time on some pizza when we were in Phoenix and it was amazing!
Dinner is Served
Last Tuesday was our fourteeth anniversary. It was a joyful day. The air was lovely and cool. The sun shone as brightly as it did those many years ago. We dined at Itta Bena for dinner. That's the quaint little speak easy on the third floor of BB King's on Beale Street. Zali and Simone wer...
Cuties!! I love those adorable dogs. Cinnamon has given up following me around now. Turns out he just needed to turn 16 to become a lazy bones kitty.
Laundry Day
Zali and Simone hate Mondays. It's laundry day at Schyterbolle. We traipse up the steps, down the steps, up, down, down up... The two of them finally give out at the end of the day and wait for me on the landing. Zali doesn't even bother to move. I have to mince around him with my loads of...
Wow, crazy! Thanks for sharing!
Give Me A Hand
My hands have been shaking more than usual of late. It makes it difficult to paint. To eat. To type. To cheer me up, Hud sent me these marvelous pictures of animals painted -- on people's hands. That one reminded me of Howard. This giraffe made me laugh. The kitten reminds me of my ...
Aww, I just want to num on that little paw!
Chillaxin'
Things have been so heavy around here of late, that I thought it was time for a kitten break. Baby clouded leopard at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium brought to you by Zooborns. This great shot was taken by Seth Bynum. Imma' take a cue from him and see if I can untwist myself.
The only thing I can think to say is that you were incredibly blessed to have such a good friend and for so long. I'm sorry about her passing.
Messages
When Evelyn first started on her brief journey with pancreatic cancer last May, my friend Nay Nay in Maryland, contacted me to tell me about the strangest thing that happened to her. She set her GPS and followed the directions, only to wind up in the parking lot of Johns Hopkins on the other si...
I'm so sorry, Furry.
On Going Home
No matter how many years have passed (thirty-two) since I moved away from Richmond, I have always considered it to be my home. Despite the fact that I have no dwelling to call my own there, it is the place that holds my heart. I grew up with some of the nicest people I have ever met in all of...
Sad, but also glad that you were the people to take that sweet puppy in for those few hours.
Giving Comfort to Joy
Yesterday morning, around 8:30, as Hud and Zoe were making their way back from the church yard next door, Hud noticed a tiny dog marching determinedly towards North Parkway. He let Zoe in the house, crossed the street and scooped her up. She appeared to be the littlest Bassett hound I have eve...
Habby Birfday!
Spock is not impressed that it's my birthday
During w00tstock last week, I mentioned that I was turning 38 this week. After the show, Anne told me that I was, in fact, turning 39. In the few seconds that it took me to do some math, I lost a year of my life. Apparently, this is the sort of thing that happens when you get to be my age, which...
Haha, I love the "I'm naked" story. It's hilarious!
IIIIII'mmmm NAKED!
I know I've told you about my grandmother traumatizing me in my thirties by springing from the bathroom, soaking wet and singing, "I'm naked!" Right? The horror. So every summer, around August, you can here me crooning, "I'm NAKED!" as I stroll through the naked ladies. I've told you we live ne...
What a bounty you have there!!! They look great.
Tomato, Tomatoh!
For the past several years, some scalawag thief has stolen our tomatoes just as they were beginning to turn. Not a few. Not several. All. All of the tomatoes vanished from the garden in the cover of darkness. The plants were left so badly damaged that we had no choice but to rip them out. ...
Lucky!! They're gorgeous, I would have squealed too!
Go Fish
I know I need to change the water in the fountains, but I can't. No, I'm not too busy or too lazy. We have baby fish! *They were so fast I couldn't get them in the shot. Maybe when they're bigger.* In both the front and back fountains! There is no truth to the fact that I squeed upon the o...
The Bloggess is how I found your blog! After you collated papers, of course.
And recently my husband has started watching all the old Star Trek Next Generation shows and I started talking about tidbits of your life that I knew from your blog and he said, "How do you know this?" "Um, I follow his blog." My husband decides to start watching Star Trek and I STILL find a way to steal his thunder.
The Art of Being Furiously Happy
My wish for today is that everyone watches this, and gets inspired: The Bloggess is amazing.
