Just try not to drive it into a trench where it will get stuck.
...across the gulf of space...
Last week, I got to do one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life: I went to JPL in La Canada to record a video for the landing of Mars Curiosity on August 5. I have to believe that their first through eighth choices weren't available, because it's the only thing that makes sense, but s...
Since it's a Lulu book, does that mean there will be a PDF version also?
This is the cover for Memories of the Future, Volume One
This is the cover for Memories of the Future, Volume One. I looked at a bunch of different designs (and at least one of them may be a variant cover at some point) but when I saw the comp that ended up leading to this cover, I knew that this was the one I'd want to use, because I just love 195...
I nearly burst out laughing at "K'lap" also.
screw you, q. coffee is for closers.
I'm editing Memories of the Future, and ... well, this bit from Hide & Q made me laugh: Riker explains that, even though he's pretty much a golden god, he's still the same old lovable Riker they've known for ten episodes, and to show them how totally awesome he is, he's going to give some gifts ...
I had the same thought about the preview being most of what they showed of TNG also; at least they kept Whhil Whheaton for the show. But then, should have figured out that the TNG bit was the B-story from the episode title (Not All Dogs Go To Heaven).
just in case you wanted to talk about tonight's TNG reunion on Family Guy...
Not only that, but the bear Wil is trying to win looks like Rupert.
Did I mention that the TNG episode of Family Guy airs this Sunday?
If you only have 3 minutes to spend watching an awesome video today, I hope you'll spend it watching the trailer for this Sunday's TNG reunion show on Family Guy. I didn't get to work with any of the TNG cast when I recorded my scenes, but I just love it that we all came back to do this show...
Thanks for the list, Wil. Most of my self-publishing bookmarks are for webcomics/comicbooks, but I have a few that may cross-over:

The positive response to Sunken Treasure has surprised and delighted me even more than the fantastic sales of both the print and PDF versions. As of this writing, PDF sales have vastly exceeded my expectations, and though print sales have slowed, they haven't stopped. I've seen a direct relation...
I belive that it was 112. (Jeez, how much of a geek am I to remember that off the top of my head?)
drop down, reverse direction, increase speed
I told my wife, "You know, I haven't gotten past the first screen of Space Invaders in at least 20 years. I think I need to practice more." I thought for a second. "Train for it, I guess, is what I'm saying." She looked at me. "Train for what?" "Oh, um." I said, "you know, just to get bette...

You mean you weren't quoting Family Guy. Aw, now my happiness is ru'inged.
twitter funtimes
I don't think you need a lot of context from me to set this up, so I'll just say that this happened last night on Twitter: Me: @BrentSpiner: Just watched you on Leverage - You ROCKED. You were such an awesome dirtbag, and I know a thing or two about playing dirtbags. Brent: @wilw Thanks Wil. I...
I was saddened to hear this news. This is a loss of a great actress and person.
a moment of silence, please.
Majel Barrett Roddenberry died yesterday. She was a hell of a lady, who loved Star Trek and Star Trek fans like no other. Some knew her as the original Number One, some knew her as Lwaxana Troi, and everyone knew her as the ship's computer, but I just knew her as Majel, my friend Rod's mom, who ...
Can't wait to hear the podcasts. Are they available some way that doesn't require iTunes?
Also, can not believe that I didn't pick up on your sarcasm in the last post. I guess I'll have to take my sarcasm-detector to Prof. Frink's for a look.
a woefully inadequate session report
I can't go into specifics about yesterday's D&D 4E session at Penny Arcade, and I won't be able to say anything until after the podcasts are released . . . but I thought I'd collect the few tweets I sent while we were playing as sort of an oblique overview: Remember when you were a kid, and you...
Yep, sometimes when you create a new character, the blank sheet is the place to start.
Very cool that you get to play with that group...plus, I also believe that the celebrity guest is you.
at last, it can be revealed . . .
So this is why I got to spend the entire weekend making a D&D 4E character without feeling guilty about it at all: For those of you who enjoyed the D&D Podcasts, we're recording another session on Thursday. Jim Darkmagic (of the New Hampshire Darkmagics), Binwin Bronzebottom, and Omin Dran of A...
Damn, that sucks. I started playing WizKids games way back with Mage Knight (the Whirlwind expansion just came out), and also played some MechWarrior when it came out.
For me, two things killed my interest in the games:
First, they decided to come out with a 2.0 version of the games, effectively confusing a bunch of people with the new rules.
Second (and most egregious) was we were promised that they wouldn't behave like WotC, namely that they would not retire pieces. But when they came out with the 2.0 games, they added a retirement cycle; this broke the major promise that got me into Mage Knight.
I have a few other minor gripes (like never getting my Duncan the Red mail-in figure), but those are the big two.
RIP WizKids Games
The shit ass economy claims another victim, and this one will hit close to home for a lot of geeks. Topps announced that "WizKids will immediately cease operations and discontinue its product lines." Allow me to be the first to say (on this blog, anyway) well, shit. WizKids Games is an awesome c...
I can understand the feelings about night shoots. In 1988, I was an extra in the movie UHF and worked in a shoot from 10PM-6AM. While I had a lot of fun, I decided that one night was enough.
Criminal Minds: Production Continues
This is the fourth of five posts about working on episode four, Paradise, during season four of Criminal Minds. I spoke with CliqueClack.com about some of my production experiences, and I have a gallery of images from the shoot at Flickr. Please note that I've done my best to recreate my interac...
When ever I see a Peanuts special, I always think that into should be in front. Not having it there is like not having the 20th Century Fox Fanfare at the start of a Star Wars movie.
so fucking special
I hope this makes my fellow Gen Xers as happy as it made me. Damn kids today: When we saw this during October, it usually meant that something wonderful, like a It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown was about to start. When we saw it in December, it usually meant a Rankin/Bass special was ab...
Sitting down to read a book is a favorite activity of mine. I usually set aside the whole day, reading a book while I listen to music in the background.
we don't have anything by edmund wells, actually. he's not very popular.
I Propelled an interview with Neal Stephenson this morning. The whole thing is an awesome read, but one thing in particular jumped out at me: "If you choose to read a book today, it's not like a hundred years ago, when that was your only option. Today, when you read a book, you're making a con...
At least your team is still in it. Mine died trying to get into the playoffs by losing a tiebreaker game 1-0.
egad, a base tone denotes a bad age
WWdN reader Katie D. was inspired by yesterday's audiobook post, and sent me this incredibly awesome piece of art: Several readers sent me this story from the Mail Tribune about some of Stand By Me's locations. If you are up in Southern Oregon, and you want to see some of the train tracks and ...
Agreed. Good thing is a lot of places now do not add DRM to the media they sell.
why i won't ever infect anything you buy from me with drm
Last week, I finished recording the audio version of The Happiest Days of Our Lives. I'm not sure what our release date is, but it's in the near future. Like the audio version of Just A Geek, it's a superannuated super-annotated version, with lots of asides and commentary. I think you're going t...
Way cool! As with others here, "urge to play D&D rising...".
in which i get to hurl polyhedrons
From left to right: Me, Gabe, Kurtz, Tycho. This was pretty much as fantastic as I thought it would be, and I'm very proud of myself for never blowing a save versus "OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE I GET TO DO THIS" the whole time we played. Check this out: we had so much fun, Jerry says that if th...
I stopped my D&D evolution at 2E, and am glad that you can now get a lot of the old material as PDF's. I shop both Paizo and RPGnow.com; RPGnow.com is typically more expensive (usually $4.95 vs. Paizo's $4), but they don't watermark most everything like Paizo does. (And they had Judge's Guild "Dark Tower"--Score!!)
Lizardmen live in the marshes
"This is a game that is fun. It helps you imagine." -Preface to the D&D Basic Rules Set, 1983 I'm following the "blog less while you're writing stories" rule, so I can stay on target and get this novella finished before Duke Nukem Forever ships. So, very briefly: Playing a tiny bit of D&D 4e at...
