So you're saying Typepad is responsible for all that dead fish in the salton sea?
WIL WHEATON dot NET is open for business
After a long Exile, I returned home this weekend. Until the heat death of the universe or I stop blogging (whichever comes first), I'll be back at WWdN. Follow me past the jump for some technical information and closing thoughts, if you're into that sort of thing. About RSS subscriptions: I'm go...
When I saw Paul and Storm at PAX East, they introduced me to the elbow bump (presumably also to avoid con crud). Do you do that, too? (I've read and understand your policy on physical contact at cons, and it makes sense. I'm just curious if elbow bumps qualify. Also, it's just curiosity, as I won't be there).
Here are my plans for PAX
Tomorrow, I'm heading up to Seattle for PAX Prime. This year, I hope to play a shitton of games, both of the Tabletop variety and the Video variety. To accomplish this noble goal, I'm not going to do a ton of signing like I've done in years past. If you're planning to attend, and want to do thin...
I wonder if original post commenter Eric G. Myers http://profile.typepad.com/ericmyers2 was partially responsible for this.
in which I am an indirect contributor to Highlights for Children
In february, I wrote about the time that Anne and I discussed Highlights for Children at great length: "You know what I always hated about Highlights?" Anne said, "some idiot kid had always circled the hidden pictures." "Seriously!" I said, "fuck that kid, man. That kid's a dick." "And what kin...
Awesome! Thanks. Now I really can't wait!
This is my new show, Tabletop
Last summer, Felicia Day asked me if I wanted to develop a show together for her new premium YouTube channel, Geek and Sundry. Spoiler alert: I said yes. She asked me if I wanted to do a show about gaming, maybe a review show or something like that. "I think it would be more fun do somet...
I'm very excited about this! I want to get into board gaming, maybe with my daughter (9).
Question: are the shows safe for kids, or is there cussing and such? Can I watch them with her?

Favorite line: "wishing that I could just tell Jack Bauer where the bomb was located so he’d let me stop reading."
Well done, Mr. Wheaton.
The Tournament of Books: State of Wonder vs. The Sisters Brothers
I am a judge in this year's Tournament of Books at The Morning News. The Tournament is a bracketed competition that pits sixteen books against each other, two books at at time. It's sort of like March Madness, if March Madness didn't bore me to death.* I love to read, and I have so much going on...
TNG cast member... magnificent beards... oh! LeVar Burton!
Did you know the pseudonym you gave sounds like another cast member?
life imitates art (or: I don't know much about brain scans, but I'll help you fix your computer.)
Earlier today, I got an email from a Star Trek TNG cast member who will remain nameless. I've chosen the pseudonym Jonathan Frakes for the purposes of this post. "Jonathan Frakes's" email had been compromised, and I'd gotten one of the things it sent out, so I pinged him and offered to help him ...
Wil, I think the game made Hijinks Ensue. http://hijinksensue.com/2012/03/05/joco-cruise-crazy-2-fancy-photo-comic-part-3/
JCCC2: in which Settlers of Catan is played on a boat
The boat rocked as gently as a giant boat can rock when it's pushing 19 knots. A fresh breeze made small white caps in the sea. The sun -- the Nerd's natural enemy -- was directly above us in a cloudless sky. I sat with Anne on the aft pool deck of the Westerdam, my feet floating in the water. "...
That certainly makes sense.
By the way, hearing you read a story made me miss Radio Free Burrito. Any chance it'll come back?
Watch about a stupid live tour of my messy office, and hear me tell you a story.
I made a stupid cellphone video that was actually a live stream tour on my Ustream channel of my messy office. Then I read a short story. Yaaaaay! The stream was broken once when Paul called me (way to steal focus, Paul!), so there are two videos: If you watched it (live or recorded, pleas...
I live-streamed Marian Call's concert in Cambridge MA last summer at Pandemonium on my iPhone using uStream. The only issue was that people complained about the commercials that uStream adds to the feed.
I'm going to start saving pre-1987 quarters for whenever you come to Boston next, partially because it's nice, and partially because I'm REALLY CURIOUS what you'll do with them when the can's full.

Interesting what people notice. What I noticed: the Utah Teapot (an early CG model).
Just in time for Halloween: the animated Dark Dungeons
If you're of a certain age, you may remember the infamous Jack Chick tract Dark Dungeons. For those of you who don't, here's the tl;dr from the Escapist: Dark Dungeons is possibly the most widely distributed piece of anti-game propaganda in the history of gaming. It was first produced by Chick ...
Why isn't your character listed as Evil Wil Wheaton?
So... this is happening.
I spent a lot of time at Warner Brothers last week. While I was there, I saw my friend Kaley, and we took a silly picture: Then I remembered that I'm Evil, so we took another picture: And if you haven't solved the puzzle by now, this is why I was there: Check out how I totally play thi...
I don't know much about beer, but I have to think that dry-hopping with an ounce of dishwasher detergent is probably a bad idea...
The Poet and the Painter casting shadows on the water
Beer stuff! I wanted to make Jaime Paglia an oatmeal stout, because that's his favorite. When I went to the shop to get supplies, though, Greg (who owns it) told me that you really have to do a partial mash or all-grain to get it just right. I'm not quite ready for that, yet, so I went with my b...
So, how many times this weekend did you write your name?
My Dragon*Con Schedule
Here's my schedule for this weekend's Dragon*Con. Friday 1pm -2pm - The Guild Panel with Robin and Amy in the Sheraton Grand Ballroom 2:30-5:30pm - Autographs in the Walk of Fame 6:00-6:30pm - The Guild Photos in International Hall North at the Marriott. 6:30-7:00pm - Star Trek Photos in Interna...

How was your PAX?
I'm on set for Eureka, tethering to the Internets through a mobile hotspot, using my iPad to post with the Typepad app. This is, as they say, less than optimal for blogging. However, I wanted to put a post up for PAX stuff, until I can write a proper post in the next few days. I had a wonderful ...
Actually, according to http://nutritiondiva.quickanddirtytips.com/how-much-water-should-I-drink.aspx and http://www.jacn.org/content/19/5/591.abstract caffeine, while a diuretic, is not enough to offset the fluids in the carbonated drink.
So go ahead and drink caffeinated drinks. But water's probably still better for you (and may even be cheaper).
being a geek is about having a great community
In a couple hours, I'm heading down to San Diego for the craziest, most exhausting, most awesome four days of the year: Comicon. Earlier this morning, Felicia and I were Google Plussing about how to survive the con. I'm assuming some of you are not among the eleventy billion people who have the ...
Well, when (yes, dammit, I said, WHEN, not IF (hope springs eternal, and all that)) you come to Boston, feel free to use your old material because when W00tstock was here last, it was Wil-less (no, I'm not (too) bitter, it was a good show even without you and I understand schedules, etc, etc).
However, NathanielS's idea with the TNG clips would be awesome.
w00tstock presents: Wil Wheaton vs. Paul and Storm at Largo
Later this month -- March 29, to be precise -- I will be joining Paul and Storm for a show at Largo, here in Los Angeles. This show will be a sort of concentrated w00tstock, expanding my 20 minute set of one story to about 60 minutes of probably 3 stories, and doing approximately the same for Pa...
Best thing about dragon coasters: they keep your coffee warm.
Note: if you're using them with something cold, flip them over.
A weekend of gaming, from Cal & D to Power Grid
Saturday, I got together with Cal, Martin and Steve so we could finish our now-epic one-shot of Cal & D. The plan was to start at 10, because Martin had a family commitment that we all decided (despite his disagreement, which was wrong) that wasn't nearly as important as crawling the dungeon and...
