I was in line about an hour behind that Sparks McGee. She made me jealous I hadn't thought of it ;)
A few pictures from Emerald City Comicon.
I had a fantastic time at Emerald City Comicon. Until I have time to get my thoughts together and share some of the more awesome things that happened, I want to share the following pictures that I took while I was there: A girl made me this T-shirt. I'm so geeked out about it, I'm going to ma...
I just read the announcement on facebook about reading something from part 2, and I am really, really, REALLY excited about that!
ECCC Programming Question: What do you want to hear at the Awesome Hour?
I've been working on Big Bang Theory for the last week. We tape tonight, and tomorrow I immediately start work on an audiobook*. The upshot of this is that I won't have a lot of time to build a setlist for my Awesome Hour at Emerald City Comicon this weekend. So this is where you come in. I need...
Happy Birthday! I hope it's a great one.
Spock is not impressed that it's my birthday
During w00tstock last week, I mentioned that I was turning 38 this week. After the show, Anne told me that I was, in fact, turning 39. In the few seconds that it took me to do some math, I lost a year of my life. Apparently, this is the sort of thing that happens when you get to be my age, which...
I've been reading your blog regularly for almost a year now. This is my first time reading this story, and I love it.
As much as I love the description of the childhood event, I'm especially drawn to the ending because this is the first year I have a child old enough to enjoy fireworks. I've always loved fireworks (ask my husband about me dragging him from Downtown Disney back to Magic Kingdom in 20 minutes so we could be there to see the show), but our son is almost two this year, and the light is somehow even more amazing reflected on his face. Thank you for capturing some of that emotion. It's a great story and beautifully written.
Because it's become a yearly tradition, here's a story about fireworks
I've written hundreds of thousands of words over the years, but this remains one of my all-time favorites, so I like to revisit it every year. It was originally written and published on July 5, 2002, which usually feels like years and days ago all at once, but this year actually feels like a lif...
Except that the underwear bomber was flying INTO this country, not out of it, so he wouldn't have gone through any TSA procedures at all. He was caught through an investigation and ongoing monitoring by professionals in multiple countries. He was caught because they already suspected him of being a potential terrorist. Would the TSA have caught him if he'd been flying OUT of Detroit? I honestly don't think so.
There are so many problems with the current system, I don't even know where to start. The cost of the scanning machines is ridiculous, the health concerns are more than troubling, and the people performing the pat-downs are basically minimum wage workers with little training.
Kaelri, you say we need security measures that would protect us. I agree, and I think TSA is way off the mark.
I don't feel safe. I feel violated, humiliated, and angry.
Yesterday, I was touched -- in my opinion, inappropriately -- by a TSA agent at LAX. I'm not going to talk about it in detail until I can speak with an attorney, but I've spent much of the last 24 hours replaying it over and over in my mind, and though some of the initial outrage has faded, I st...
"The Guild" panel was the highlight of my entire trip to Seattle. It was the first time I've attended a con, and despite the four-hour drive, getting stuck on the other side of Snoqualmie (We now know that Cle Elum, Washington is actually a very nice place) and having a whole lot of work to make up today, you made it completely worth it! We didn't get your autograph - had to leave the line to make it to the photo op with you guys - but it has jumped to the top of my to-do list.
Thank you for being there and being so awesome! Thanks to The Guild panel, my husband has finally been converted to full-on Wil Wheaton fan!
Emerald City Comicon after action report
ECCC has officially joined PAX on the List of Conventions I Don't Ever Want To Miss. It's well-organized, staffed by competent and friendly volunteers, and has what is, in my opinion, the perfect balance of comics and popular geek culture. This year, I had to leave Saturday afternoon to fly home...
I would absolutely love to buy one of these, but since we won't be able to attend until Saturday (something about needing to work to afford the ridiculous amount of photos, autographs and other misc items that we plan to buy), I'm not going to get my hopes up that you have any left over. You're a lot more popular than you give yourself credit for!
My Emerald City Comicon schedule, and an ultra-limited merchandise thingy
Tomorrow, I head up to glorious Seattle for the Emerald City ComiCon. I'm doing the usual storytellings and autograph signings, though I have to leave on Saturday due to an unfortunately-timed family commitment. I'm hosting an Awesome Hour on Friday at 4pm, and I'll be on The Guild panel with Am...
