A dark and stormy day greeted us on Tuesday. My alarm goes off early enough, but I struggle a bit to get out of bed. It's always the routine of getting downstairs, getting both dogs out, getting both dogs in (blindness in both pugs has made this more of an effort), make my coffee, heat up my "blue thing" that still smells of lavender from the oils Maddie put on it the night before. Maddie is cuddled up on the couch watching Once on the ipad. It's her addiction right now. Our routine differs little from the day before. After... Continue reading

Sunday night, Ryan and Dominick and slept downstairs with Chloe (an attempt to control Chloe's need to get up and go outside numerous times per night), so Maddie and I had slept upstairs in my bed together. There will come a day when they aren't thrilled to get to do these little sleepovers with us, so I am thankful for them while they last. Both kids ended up sleeping in late (to 8 AM) - tired bodies from a weekend of play and Easter, so I quietly got ready for to head into the office while they slept. Both kids... Continue reading

The last day of documentation. We have a busy day ahead and Madeline starts school tomorrow. The kids watch a little Amazing World of Gumball in the morning. I get a kick out of how much they cuddle up when they watch. Vegas is still soundly sleeping. I don't disturb her yet, but Chloe needs to go out right away in the morning. Dominick takes care of the Guineas for Madeline. He is always going out of his way to do favors for Madeline - even when she doesn't ask. I love how kind he is to her. The Guineas... Continue reading

I love Saturdays. I love being home and knowing that there is two days here. I woke with Madeline in our bed (she crawled in sometime this morning). She crept downstairs allowing me to sleep in a bit more. Heaven. Saturday mornings are either super low key or getting ready to go on an adventure. This week, we are low-key. The kids request freezer waffles. It's nice to have a breakfast on hand that requires nearly zero effort. Dominick wants to dress up in some of his new clothes today. I cinch the waistband of his pants for him. Both... Continue reading

We are all up by 7 AM again. The kids are excited because we have back to school shopping planned today. I have work to do this morning - I have a write up due and it will take me several more hours to complete - so get to work right away. The kids work on puzzles in the living room - puzzles appear to be the activity of choice right now. I work until after noon and then scramble to get us out the door by 1. During the morning, Ryan works with the kids to go through their... Continue reading

The alarm goes off at 7 AM and I head downstairs. Madeline and Dominick are already up and Tea is still sleeping. The kids will be heading into Ryan's school (he has a meeting with Bart) and are very excited. Dominick has breakfast. Madeline is cuddled up with Chloe on the green chair. Dominick decides to pull out some puzzles and do them on the living room floor. He is working on a Pirates of the Caribbean puzzle. We try to keep the kid volume down so Tea can sleep. Madeline pulls out a puzzle of her own - Fancy... Continue reading

I set my alarm for 6:30 AM this morning. Still dark and dreary. A little sunshine would go a long way right now. Find Madeline and Dominick watching in her room. She set her alarm for 6 AM - she is excited for Tea to spend the day at our house. They are both cranky - too little sleep. Dominick plays with his guys in the living room. Ryan drives up to get a paper. He stopped having them delivered, but is interested in the high school sports information this week. The kids keep asking when Tea is going to... Continue reading

Dark and cold out again today. It's hard to get up - I would prefer to stay cuddled up in bed for a while longer. I force myself up and head downstairs. I am greeted by these two cuddled up on the couch watching a Disney show on the iPad. They bicker more and more these days (getting back to school will be good), so I cherish these moments when I have them. This one is fast asleep in her puppy bed, so I leave her be. I put this one outside for potties. Sometimes I am struck by how... Continue reading

It's the last week of summer break here, although if feels like fall. It's cold and rainy. I had trouble getting out of bed this morning. Not a morning person as it is, Mondays are hard - I have meetings all day and don't feel like I get much real work done - add that it's dark out and the kids are home, and I just want to curl up at home. I set my alarm this morning for 6 AM. It awakes me and I found a 9 year old girl and a puppy cuddled up with me. I... Continue reading

In December, I had settled happily on my One Little Word for 2015 (Explore). As January rolled around though, that word didn't feel like it quite fit. It seemed limited. I started thinking about what I wanted to invite into my life right now. I had had some success with my 2013 word (Focus) - helping to find what was important to me as I worked through the monthly prompts (Ali Edwards One Little Word class). In 2014, my word was "embrace" where my goal was to live my life more fully, and it was the perfect fit for my... Continue reading

As part of an effort to get my writing mojo back on track, I am taking Ali Edwards Yesterday & Today class. One of the assignments has been to document some childhood memories. I have to admit - this was pretty fun. So fun, in fact, that I thought I would share a few out here. Now - if you happen to be a childhood friend that is reading this, take it all with a grain of salt. I remember how I remember. I don't know how accurate my memories are (and based on a podcast I recently heard, I... Continue reading

Lately...I have committed to writing more (again). I have a shiny (okay, it's not really shiny, but it's pretty!) new moelskin journal that I am filling with words, and sketches, and typography (something I used to love and have been VERY out of practice with). I am no longer separating all that out into separate little books, but rather just filling up the book as I go along. Who knows how many journals I will go through by the end of 2014, but I like the process and having it with me. I know I want to document differently. I... Continue reading

I had been in a funk lately. Focusing on the negative. Never feeling like I was good enough at anything. I felt like I was failing. Like there was never enough time. As if one bad moment would ruin a day. I needed a change. While reading a blog post or some articles for work (I don't recall now), I came across a great article on www.scrawnytobrany.com on focusing on the positive - so fitting for where I am/was, particularly since my "One Little Word 2013" is "Focus" and one of my 2013 action items is to focus on the... Year 2 of Project Life is under way for me. I LOVED this project last year and actually kept up with it (for the most part - we aren't going to talk about December where I barely had time to wrap presents, much less keep up with this project - although I will be finishing up December over the next couple of weeks....). And, so, I embark on Year 2. A little wiser. A little more sure of what I want to do with this. A little more schooled about what works. What doesn't. What makes sense for me. What... I have actually been doing really well with my Holiday Daily album. Not with the posting about it, but the actual doing of it. It was something I was worried about and actually nearly gave up on before I even hit December (life is just a little crazier than usual), but I am glad I am sticking with it and am finding a routine and attitude that keeps me going. I also think that the consistent page size is helping. It's easy to work with. Past years, I have been mixing it up. I am really liking the simplicity that... Continue reading

I completed both yesterday and today already. I also have ideas plotted out about 75 percent of the remaining days before Christmas. It feels good to be organized and on top of this project. Of course, it is only Day 3... Day 2 - November 26 For Day 2, I chose to document letters to Santa. So that grandparents and other family could get a jump on holiday shopping, we had the kids look through toy catalogs last night and circle what they wanted. Then, they each picked out a couple of things to include in a letter to Santa.... Continue reading

I have decided to participate in the "December Daily" project again this year. This will be my fourth year and it is one of my favorite memory keeping projects. As our holiday season begins with our tree trimming the day after Thanksgiving, my "Holiday Daily" album starts with November 25th. Cover and Title Page I decided to go with a 6x8 chipboard album this year. A little bigger than I have done the first couple of years, but a little smaller than my 8 1/2 x 11 last year. For the cover, I covered both front and back with some... Continue reading

Happy Thanksgiving! I am sitting here, a little quiet time while the kids rest and the turkey (for our impromptu Thanksgiving dinner hosting) roasts and thinking of all I have to be thankful for (including my little bit of quiet right now). Thankful for...these two, who get along more than they don't and who's hugs and kisses can brighten any day. Thankful for...this guy, who is my anchor. Who is wonderful. Even if we drive each other commpletely nuts sometimes. Thankful for...the time that this wonderful grandfather was living so near us and the relationship he had with my children.... Continue reading

I have little tiny pieces left of my Dear Lizzy fabric paper that I LOVE and will use down to the last little 1/2" x 1/2" square.

If I have to pick just one, I have to say Farmhouse. Love them all!

I didn't do as well on actual people yesterday. Little Man saying "No Cheese, No Cheese" when I bring out the camera made me think I might give them all a break from the Cat with a Camera torture (don't worry - it only lasted a day). A few favorites from Thursday: Lunch with my mom. Madtown's new vase (with the flower she picked from the garden). Doing a little work from home. Heading to the Pool with Little Man while Madtown and Ryan watched the Nieces playing soccer. Dinner - just Little Man and me, post pool. Bedtime snacks... Continue reading

Much better yesterday in terms of photo taking. Between my phone and my actual camera, I think I captured some gems. Plus, I didn't have one photo of puppy poop (as promised by the hubby), so overall, a good day. It is a bit hard getting back into taking so many photos. I have been trying to do a bit more of the experiencing vs. observing/photographing, but I am always happy when I have captured the moments and little things. Of course, Little Man is now telling me "No Cheese, No Cheese." Might be a long week for the little... Continue reading
