I know! I've already picked out a pattern myself. ...and I haven't done it in ages!
needle(s) in hand(s)
My Winterwoods Sampler recently found home in a frame and a spot on the wall, just in time for a little holiday decorating to happen around it. I enjoyed that stitching so much, and I most especially love that my children see stories woven into the linen. Such a delight. My mind has bee...
Our days have been similar. Our winters are mostly prepping and planning for spring though. Working and gathering around the yard. I suppose that's a little easier to do in Florida though...
Annabel's dress is the cutest thing!
making merry
Simple and special. I do hope you'll forgive me for being a bit of a broken record once again this time of year, but honestly there are so many broken records telling us something so completely different from that message, that I - and likely you too - ...
Yes. We thought our chickens had stopped laying. James went out in the yard and found their "stashes" and we ended up with over 100 eggs.... oh goodness.
:: right now ::
Right now, I am.... :: seeing outside my window the snow that fell overnight. :: watching Harper do his very best to build a snowperson, despite the freezing rain kind of snow that it is. :: melting white chocolate on the stove and hearing Steve and Adelaide crush the peppermint cand...
A full-time what?!
Well, my uncle decided he needed some help. I have been hired as the new company's bookkeeper. Believe me, having the extra money (especially with the little one coming) is a blessing. However, getting up early and trying not to go crazy shopping are quite the challenge. Being in nesting... Continue reading

Finally
Well I'm finally pregnant. I have waited so long for this, and now I'm only terrified and nervous. I'm not sure how to carry myself anymore, or how to handle anything. I figured I'd be knitting up a storm, but I've realized that I'm going to have the baby in... Continue reading

overrun
Moving into my parents' rental property has been something that I've dreamed about for quite a while. I've always been in love with the house, and the yard with room enough for any project or plan I could dream up. And I grew up in that house, so every spot... Continue reading

Thanks for the egg boiling tip from yesterday. We have had chickens for a long time and just haven't been eating(hard)boiled eggs!
eggs, naturally
I'm rather fond of seeing our eggs au naturel - there's such variation in color with each one, and oh those great big and white duck eggs! But my little ones have been noticing the calendar and changing season and asking when, oh, when Mama are we going to dye eggs? Of course! ...
Nellie and a belly! Love!
{this moment}
{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see. Wishing...
We've always kept ameraucaunas because of their blue/green (and sometimes pink!) eggs, plus they look like little chicken hawks! Although, we've always kept rhode islands too because they are such great layers, and with bigger eggs too.
Spring has arrived!
Last week, we got the early morning phone call from the post office we've been waiting for - our new chicks had arrived in town! Thirty girls (we presume) have joined us, now tilting the girl-to-boy ratio on this Soule homestead much heavier in the girl category (not that a certain five year...
Oh my! I am cracking up! and the "guideline" ah ha ha ha!
SoulePapa Blogs :: In the Pages
While the cold seeps past cracks and gaps in the armor of our home, the Sun beams itself through glass, splashing across floors and walls. I feel its heat across my legs and the back of my hand holding a book at which I've been stealing glimpses as the day allows. The extra warmth is a welcome...
I have the same basket. You know, they were selling them locally for $125, then I went to New Orleans and bought one for $35!
In my basket is a newly started Dandy Neckerchief and a halfway done Featherweight Cardigan. I've kind of gotten sick of them lately. I only have the two, although your post just inspired me to throw at least 4 more on the needles today! Stay inspired, right?!
in the basket
(Non-knitters, I apologize for the bordering-on-ridiculous details that follow in today's post! We'll be back to frozen pipes, or snowed-in chickens, and baby toes reading by the fire tomorrow.) May I introduce you to my knitting basket? After the near clear-out of the holidays with all those ...
The dogs are layin in the sun spots in the room even in Florida! I too have been lighting candles, for the pleasure and the calm it seems to bring, but also for any little source of heat I can find in this little house with no heater! I've been cooking everything in the oven, too!
seeking out the sun
Here is a day, dawn to dark, a string of moments small enough to ignore or notice, a stretch of time between awakening and sleep to be savored, or brushed aside in the rush to some distant destination. Here is a day, different from any other, with it's own flavor to be tasted. The gold...
It's only the two of us, but we are in the same situation right now. I haven't had a job in about a month, and we have been living on what we have here (excluding milk, eggs, etc.). I'm so happy that we're getting chickens again in the spring, and I told Joel the other day "all we need now is a milk cow!" Well, thankfully he'll be getting gallons from a woman at work for only $3. That's half of what milk costs us normally (organic).
livin' on love
I'm singing the same old, tired tune I've been singing on and off for what feels like years, "money's tight". We sit and talk about all the "unexpected" things, the fuel bills that make me cringe every time I hear the thud of the furnace kicking on under my feet in the dark, damp basement, the...
The difference is so funny. I had no idea what a mud room was up until about a month ago. My mother just bought a new house, and she had this useless room that I couldn't understand and she kept calling it a mud room. Well, here in Florida, we don't really have a use for them as much, but I love the concept now and try to leave my shoes just so I don't track all over her house!
corners of our home :: simple fixes
In my rather grand and noble attempt to keep farm boots and food table in separate spaces (such a lofty goal!), I declared 'the barn' (which you enter before coming into the kitchen) as the place for jackets, hats, boots and all the incoming and outgoing wear that a family of six requires. Our b...
Great mix! I've had "Electric Feel" playing on repeat for about a week! Love love love that song!

what yarn do you dye with?
wild color!
very, very little yarn dyeing occurred this spring through fall. then, at the 11th hour, apparently it finally occurred to me that I just couldn't let an entire year go by without a little dabbling, and so, out to the garden I did go to pick the last of the green (-ish) leaves off the apple ...
I hate that everyone is ragging on you for dropping the sponsr. I wish they would read more carefully and realize that you did not drop them because they are "Christian". I think spanking is bad news, anyway. It seems that a couple of times just in the past week or two I keep reading that people will "no longer be reading your blog". (i.e. the pigs) I think you're doing great, and hearing an opinion is a great part of reading someone else's blog. You don't have to agree to enjoy it.
fireside weekend
It was a marvelous little weekend here. We took the two older boys to their first Michael Franti & Spearhead concert, and they were so very happy (and I swear, as the years roll by, that man's energy just grows and grows...I wanna be like that). I finished a long-on-the-needles sweater (more on ...
Eep! I live in North Florida too, and I feel like I'm freezing! I can't even imagine what it must be like!

you have captured the season perfectly!
larch socks, redux
2nd pair of "larch" socks. knit with the second 50 gram ball leftover from the 1st pair. These socks will go into a silent auction next week to benefit a local organization "dedicated to providing quality services to promote children's safety in the home, strengthen families and make ...
MY these are beautiful! For some reason, I just can't get the sock knitting down.
tomato season socks
Yarn: Knit Picks Felici, "Patina", 24119. only 2 skeins, with very little leftover, maybe 2-3 stripes worth of each ball remaining. Toes and heels, cuffs and crocheted chain stitch ties, Trekking XXL, 329(?), held double. I fell for this colorway immediately upon seeing it 2? 3? y...
