Holy cramoley! I cannot believe you commented on this! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post. I plan on shoving this kickstarter down people's throats as often as necessary until your goal is made because this project NEEDS to see the light of day! I can't wait to hear it, sir.

Will Sheff, Daniel Johnston, Bill Callahan & More Join Brian Beattie's "Ivy And The Wicker Suitcase"
It's no secret that Okkervil River's Will Sheff has taken part in some of this fledgling decades most brilliant concept albums. His band, after all, has been the main purveyors of concept albums in recent years with Black Sheep Boy, The Stage Names, and The Stand Ins, three records that each s...
I'm gonna have to pay attention to their new work. I love their older stuff, so very much.
Wiping Off The Dust... Getting Nostalgic For Old 97's
We all know I'm one of those people who constantly pick and choose songs they relate to, assembling their own personal soundtrack to their life every time a new elements presents itself to muddle up my internal monologue and shift my attitude from complacency to frustration or, y'know, sometim...
Oh goodness, thank you! My love for Okkervil River knows no bounds. It's so nice to find out that I'm not alone! I can't wait for their new album.
People Covering Okkervil River Songs I Love
I don't love any band like I love Okkervil River. It's been well documented on various sites on the internet and, in fact, when I first moved to Illinois, I was given the nickname "Okkervil River Girl" and for good reason. The adoration I have for everyone affiliated with the band, from front ...
You know, I have very fond memories of not knowing who Miniature Tigers were at all and hearing them bust out this Abba cover live. It was very unexpected and awesome.
Miniature Tigers Cover Songs I Love!
Nothing says "Happy Thanksgiving!" like a full album of cover songs and were you to hop on over to Miniature Tigers' tumblr, that's just what you'd receive. This year, the indie popsters celebrated the best holiday that centers around a feast of dead bird by giving away their own take on every...
Awesome! That means I did my job! He's a gem, for sure. You should check out his album, I'm Not Ready To Be a Daddy. It's one of my favorites of the year. I reviewed it for sister site Mezzic - http://mezzic.com/2010/11/30/review-jonny-corndawg-im-not-ready-to-be-a-daddy-2010/
Get Thyself To Schubas for Jonny Corndawg! Right Now!
Sometimes, things in life just sneak up on you. One night, you're at a dingy venue in Michigan drinking beer straight from the pitcher (No big deal, just keepin' it classy) and the next? Well, shoot, it seems that Jonny Corndawg is at Schubas! I had meant to write about the Corndawg thoroughly...
I thought so too. Girl is a major catch, we love having her on board for RFC. She's a gem.
Another Dear To Hunt: The Dear Hunter Deserves Attention Too!
I don’t know about you, but personally, I’ve always been a fan of bands that incorporate animals into their names. Why, you ask? I don’t actually know. Fortunately, that’s not even close to the point! The point is that The Dear Hunter is awesome, and I want everyone to love them as much as I d...
What would you have preferred to red?
Morrissey Says Racist Things, Again. Does Not Apologize For Saying Racist Things.
You may have heard by now, but Morrissey, who is not exactly new to saying and doing racist shit, said something racist in an interview recently. And like many times when someone says something racist, he considers himself to have a perfectly good reason for said generalizations and derogato...
Thanks! The album hasn't grown on me yet but shoot, I love this b-side. I have a ridiculous crush on Tim Kasher so I'm biased but this song is one of the better things he's produced in a while, although I do have to give major props to "What Have I Done" off the last Cursive record. So glad you enjoyed it! A review of the album is gonna be posted in a few days, keep an eye out!
Tim Kasher? In My Reckless Records?
There are a few musicians that, to quote Ben Gibbard, I would follow into the dark. They're the type of musicians I've listened to for years, since adolesence, and ones that I still hold dear today. (Note: Ben Gibbard is not one of these musicians.) Of all the heroes of my teens, most have dis...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that! Church seems like an indie staple to me. Solid dude.
Sea Wolf Is Awesome, Brings Said Awesomeness To Lincoln Hall
Sea Wolf's an interesting character. Even though Alex Brown Church began performing under the moniker only a few years ago (around L.A. as a solo act before getting signed to Dangerbird records), Sea Wolf has never seemed like an emerging artist. In fact, despite a mere 2 LP's under his belt,...
I'm glad I could get you into AA Bondy! Have you checked out his Daytrotter sessions? I highly recommend them. Bondy only has 2 albums out right now (as a solo artist) but they're both so solid. "American Hearts" is another stand out track of his that weasels it's way into your brain and takes root. Have you heard Pearly Gate Music? If you like talented singer songwriters, I recommend P.G.M., for sure! What other music have you been digging on recently?
People Covering Songs I Love: Delta Spirit Edition Part 2 - Featuring AA Bondy!
I never thought I'd get married. I mean, let's face it, I'm 26 and, since I've beem 26, I haven't had a boyfriend. 25? Well, that was spotty too. And let's not even talk about 24. I've never been in a serious relationship and I've certainly never dated someone I was in it to win it with. Regardl...
I can't tell ya'll enough to check out Tim's stuff! The man has been a prolific voice and presence in indie for years. If you're not familiar with Cursive or The Good Life (Tim's two projects), leave a comment! I'd be happy to tell anyone where to start, what tracks to check out, and what the strongest albums are!
Tim Kasher Finds Love, More or Less
When word came out that Tim Kasher had a new album, let's say these two ears were hesitant. Cursive's Mama, I'm Swollen teetered towards The Good Life territory, which faded the lines between his two projects. A solo album abstractly denotes acoustic and I could not take a triad of musical iter...
Je vous l'ai dus, cher! Aucun besoin de m'aimer plus! Je vous adore déjà.
RFC Reviews: Madjo "Madjo EP"
Given the fact that I’m a feminist, what I’m about to say makes me feel dang awful but the fact of the matter is that I dislike female artists. There’s no possible way for me to make that statement and come across as anything other than a pretentious bitch but I swear, I’ve reasoning behind...
Agreed, John! At first, it felt like Rilo Kiley covers Best Coast but once I got a few cuts in, I realized it was way cooler than Best Coast both musically and (definitely!) lyrically. I'm not disappointed with the album at all but, truth be told, my expectations were VERY low for this. But it did surpass them!
RFC Reviews: Jenny and Johnny "I'm Having Fun Now"
I loved Johnathan Rice’s Further North and had a silly crush on him for a while after a San Diego show where I SWEAR he winked at me , thus when I heard his voice on opening track “Scissor Runner” I instantly felt all twitterpated and ready to rock for the rest of I’m Having Fun Now. The fresh...
Paul - Have you given their first two discs a few good listens? I feel like Arcade Fire is a band who's music grows on you the more you let it be a part of your listening patterns. I'm still warming up to the Suburbs myself and honestly haven't given it even one full listen through but Butler and company always have my respect for "My Body Is A Cage".
RFC Reviews: Arcade Fire's The Suburbs
I’ll get straight to the point here. I am convinced Arcade Fire can do no wrong musically. No, haven’t been brainwashed and I’m not experiencing delayed side affects from the cold that kept me from writing this review last week. It’s been more than three years since Neon Bible was released, b...
Hey! No knocking Gaga on my watch, mister! Talent's talent, be it of the folk variety or the pop variety. Katy Perry, however, you can say whatever you want about. Her only redeeming quality, in my eyes, is her nice rack.
RFC Reviews: Frontier Ruckus "Deadmalls and Nightfalls"
I can pinpoint the exact moment I fell in love with Frontier Ruckus. From the first captivating notes of the band's latest cd, Deadmalls and Nightfalls, I knew I was listening to something special but at the minute-and-twenty-four-second mark, when everything - banjo, vocals, trumpet, saw - co...
Can't wait to meet you fellas! Be sure to say hey to the girl with the short dark hair and the camera! That's me!
RFC Barnstorms Once More!
Our more astute readers might remember that last month, editor Amber Valentine, videographer Spencer Wells, moonlighting photographer Mark Fain, and contributing superstar Braden Rapp came together as one for Daytrotter's Barn on the 4th of July Show, as part of Amber's continuing string of "Ro...
I didn't even realize what videos you posted, John, but my friend Kevin aka Soft City Lights filmed the Frightened Rabbit one! Ace choice!
RFC Lollapalooza Madness: John's Must See Acts
Hello world! My my, it has been a while. Here are a few choice pieces coming up during next weekend's annual insanity fest, Lollapalooza! Phoenix - Saturday from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm They're up against Green Day, yes. Everyone knows "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" and adored it last year. If yo...
Woah, that's unnecessary. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, whether you agree with it or not.
RFC Reviews: Chris Shiflett & the Dead Peasants
I have to admit I was slightly worried when fellow RFC contributor John Brunner asked if I could review Chris Shiflett & the Dead Peasants’ self-titled debut album. “It’s the guitarist for Foo Fighter’s solo project,” he said. “It’s kind of a country thing.” Country music and I have never qui...
I KNOW, RIGHT?!
RFC TV: Young Man Exclusive
Still not convinced a trek to Lincoln Hall is worth your time tonight? Check out an exclusive video of Colin Caulfield of Young Man performing solo just for Radio Free Chicago and get clued in as to why RFC is so smitten with Caulfield's debut release, Boy!
Thanks, relative of Charlie!
RFC Reviews: Miniature Tigers' "Fortress"
It’s rare that I go into a concert without having ever heard of the opening band and leave the venue with a new favorite act but last Spring, that was what happened with Phoenix-by-way-of-Brooklyn quartet Miniature Tigers. The band’s late 2008 debut, Tell It To The Volcano, became one of my mos...
Letter from the editor:
I am SO aware that Hall and Oates have a careering warranting not only a best of but also a best of box set. What Emily says about the duo, however, is just one reviewer's opinion and we're not about censoring here at RFC so I did decide to post it as is. Personally, we're hoping The Bird and The Bee's new disc sheds some light on Hall and Oates just like Cat Power's Covers Record gave me and my pals a new appreciation for Velvet Underground in high school, bringing "square" "dad" music to a younger, hipper generation.
Don't hate on the site for Emily's opinion on Hall and Oates. Different strokes for different folks, kids!

RFC Reviews: The Bird and the Bee's "Interpreting the Masters, Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates"
News of a fresh The Bird and The Bee album was cause for some fevered anticipation on my part. I was looking forward to more singable, hand-clap-able, funny and sweet pop songs. They are the essence of tuneful, sophisticated pop, but their ironic point of view, along with their musicianship, ...
I like Haunted Pyramid but I don't think it was cohesive in the scheme of To The Volcano. I would have rather that bitchin' b-side (the name of which escapes me at the moment) that has the lyrics "The heart that you hold is real" have made the cut, to be honest.
How are you enjoying Fortress?

Kyle - I'd love to hear what your thoughts on the show were! Who were your faves? Dawes took favorite set for me but the Walkmen had my favorite songs of the night. Check back every day from now until Sunday for the rest of the articles on the show! Also, apologies for any encounters we may have had. I was not entirely sober and you may remember "obnoxious girl screaming 'When My Time Comes'"... That was me. On behalf of my former dignity, I'm sorry. : /
Tiff - Part two is live!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
RFC Was Barn On the 4th Of July: A Daytrotter Adventure. Part 1.
Attentive readers or twitter followers might already know that this Editor In Chief is currently stationed in Detroit, Michigan, watching the Chicago scene from a 4-Hours-Away perch somewhere in the dregs of suburbia. If there's one thing I love, however, it's a good road trip, and if there's...
