How odd that I was recently wondering why you were playing douche bags.
I never really thought about actors and their roll "types" but I see it clearly now. Thanks for explaining. I guess that's why I have not been able to watch certain actors that I love in one movie but cannot in others. Kristen Stewart is DOOMED. *evil laugh*
Oddly enough it can also be applied to online personae. Whenever I'm nice, open and sweet *gag*, I may as well be chatting to the wall. If I'm my usual dark, sarcastic, and misanthropic self, things are way different (in a bizarre but good way).
Answering a FAQ: "Why do you play so many evil characters lately?"
Every actor has a particular type they can play well, for some reason or another. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with who we are in real life, but it's just what we do well. Example: Travolta is amazing as the Lovable Loser. When he's in Welcome Back Kotter and Saturday Night Fever i...
Kinda made me cry. I've had a complete upset since July in my gaming schedule due to my work schedule, that is SUPPOSED to be temporary.
I honestly did not realize how important the bi-weekly gaming sessions were to me until I lost them. Every other week I silently shed a tear as my husband leaves for the game.
He's currently running a Savage Worlds game and though I started out trying to play I just couldn't stay awake.
on the importance of making time to play the games you like with the people you love
In the introduction to my short collection of gaming essays called Games Matter, I wrote: Of all the things that make me a geek, nothing brings me more joy, or is more important to me, than gaming. I am the person I am today because of the games I played and the people I played them with as I ...
*head in hands* I TOLD myself NOT to read it. But I thought, it's Wil Wheaton, what's the harm? *shivers*
I'm such a sissy. :-(
But that doesn't affect the awesomeness that is the story.
Flash Fiction: The Monster In My Closet
About two hours ago, I thought to myself, "'There's a monster in my closet' would be a neat way to start out one of those scary short stories I loved to read when I was in middle school." I wrote it down, then wrote a little more and a little more. Right around the time I realized I had no idea ...
Very well said. :-)

Pretty much all of Comicon was awesome. However, there was one thing that was decidedly not awesome, and though I had initially decided not to talk about it in public, it's bothered me since it happened, so I wrote about it on G+ earlier today. I'm cross posting it here, though, because it's imp...
I'm really, really sorry that there are people out there that do this sort of thing. I would have been one of many fans that would support you no matter how mean or nasty you would have been to these leeches. Just pick them off Wil, they're not worth your attention.
It makes me very sad and it also stops me from putting a terrible amount of effort into meeting anyone famous. Even as a teen I was horrified at screaming fans. It makes my stomach hurt when I see people treating stars (movie, music, tv, tv chefs, whatever)as if they're anything more than human. Yea, I got a little emotional at Pax, but I'm an emotional and somewhat dramatic person, I also go over it in about 30 seconds.
I've been thinking a lot about Twitter and how fans treat stars of every ilk, what saddens me is how much attention the haters and weirdos get. It's NEGATIVE attention and they FEED off it. I don't understand that at all, I would be mortified if I offended someone I looked up to or admired.
The sense of entitlement that those people had, give real fans a bad name.

Sadly, the Seattle Pax last year ruined me for any Cons except Steamcon. We went for two days and spent way too long standing in line only to be disappointed EVERY SINGLE TIME. Then when I decided to get a 2 hour jump on the line to meet you, the little taped box was already filled with people! So when you were finally there I rode the escalator up, watched you interact with a few people and then said to my husband, "ok, I'm good now, thanks", and rode the escalator back down. 49 years old and not being able to say hi and shake your hand, made me cry like a 12 year old. Silly, I know.
I may say no more cons, but now my husband is talking about going to something called ZombieCon next year. Ugh.
On the meeting of Nathan Fillion (or: The Obligatory Comicon Post)
Comicon was awesome. The Eureka panel was funny and everyone in the audience seemed to enjoy themselves. The consensus from the cast and producers was that I did a good job moderating, and I felt like I managed to get out the talking points the network wanted me to get out under pain of death wi...
It totally sucks that I read your post *after* smugly stuffing my big box of frozen pretzels in the freezer, satisfied that even though my husband got a new car today, I got a monster box of frozen pretzels from Costco. Dude, there's 20 of these things! *sigh*
the frozen pretzel conundrum
I am slowly but steadily finding my way back to that mysterious land where I feel motivated and inspired to write something every day. I blame Fallout: New Vegas for wrapping me up in an interesting world every night, and a giant stack of comic books that reminded me how much I love superhero st...
Yes, as a matter of fact, I *would* pay for a print, hang it on my wall AND carry it to a Con to be signed while struggling to beat down the gushy fangirl in me. Hmm..can someone a few years shy of 50 still be called a fangirl? ;-)
"as his kilt rises..."
I think this is one of those rare things that can be equally enjoyed* by those who have context, and those who don't. *for very disturbing values of 'enjoyed'
There was so much I wanted to express in a comment, then after reading all the other comments before me, I had nothing left to add! :-)
All I can really say is a personal, "Wil Wheaton, thank-you for being you. As long as you stay true to who you are, even when you're not sure who that is, you will always be looked up to and appreciated."
in which wil is live at seven
Today is my last day on this episode of Leverage. In just under 24 hours, I go back to real life. Yesterday, I went over to Pioneer Square to talk with Stephanie Stricklen on a local news show called Live at 7. It was a good time, and I got to meet a lot of Portlanders afterward who came out to,...
Oh yes! I will have to get one of these for my husband/DM. He saw it and was thoroughly impressed. I do believe I saw a shadow of nostalgia flutter across his face. Too awesome to ignore. Thank-you Wil, your creation is a Nat20.
never forget your roots
While walking through Comicon three or four years ago, I stopped to look at one of those booths that's filled with a hundred different T-shirts. Somewhere among the various superhero crests and clever nerd phrases and obscure sci-fi homages, I saw a fairly simple design: an Atari joystick, sitti...
I hadn't thought of Roller Derby in 30+ years, since leaving LA in the mid 70's, until I watched "Whip It". Funny how a week later you go to one. I took your advice and checked, lo' Seattle has Roller derby! http://ratcityrollergirls.com/
kick out the jams, motherfu-
(Photo by me. Click to embiggen and get more info at Flickr.) Last night, Anne and I went to watch Roller Derby (which doesn't, by the rules of English grammar, need to be capitalized, but by the rules of capitalizing Things What Are Awesome does) live for the very first time. I used to watc...
