Nice, Wil, I couldn't have put it any better.
Rest in peace, Neil Armstrong.
I met Neil Armstrong once, at a dinner to honor Jimmy Doohan in the early 2000s. He was not much taller than me, but he was a giant of a man. He was as kind as he was intimidating. I don’t remember what I said to him, or what he said to me, because all I could think the entire time was “This m...
I assume you've never watched Koyaanisqatsi, it compares cities to circuit boards.
(And if you haven't watched it, you really need to. Despite being thirty years old, it blew my mind.)
we are all going to reseda...
This came into my mind recently: When viewed from the sky, the sprawling neighborhoods that make Los Angeles are a series of small grids, linked by freeways and divided by boulevards into larger grids. When you fly into Los Angeles at night, it's like looking at a circuit board, traffic flowing...
YES! YES YES YES YES YES!!!! I've been wanting some actual fiction from you for ages. Personally, I'd like a paper edition. I'm old fashioned like that.
anyone interested in a short fiction collection?
I have a question for everyone who reads my blog: if I put some short stories I'd written together into a little collection and sold it at Lulu, would you be interested? I ask this because I collected a few short stories into a limited edition chapbook for last year's PAX Prime, and it's been si...
I noticed a couple of typos, but I think other people have them covered already.
Anyway, I wrote something on my blog about MOTF:

don't blame the sweet and tender hooligan
Did I mention that I turned in Angel One to my editor last week? That means that this week, I'm working on what was commonly called "one oh one oh one oh one oh one oh one" by my friends on TNG. It's also known as The One With The Bynars, and I recall thinking that it was pretty good. I loved wo...
This is an extra special episode of Memories of the Futurecast...because now I can follow along with the book! W00t!
Memories of the Futurecast: Episode Nine
Holy crap! It's time for Memories of the Futurecast. Memories of the Future, Volume One, covers the first 13 episodes of TNG, so each week, I'm choosing something from one episode, and performing an excerpt for you. It will mostly be from the synopses, which is where I think the real humor of t...
Wil, I would love to hear an audio version of Memories of the Future. Even before the book was common knowledge, I loved listening to the original TV Squad versions on YouTube from various conventions and such. The written stuff is great, but hearing you read it has added energy and passion and sometimes sadness too. Please move it to the awesome file post haste.
you may ask yourself, "how do i work this?"
I stayed up way too late last night, waiting for Nolan to get home from the Horror thing at Universal. When I was younger, staying up until 3 was no big deal, but making it past midnight is a serious challenge, especially since my stupid brain insists on waking up between 7 and 8 no matter when ...
I think "guy-who-I-won't-link-to-for-obvious-reasons" just got owned.
an open letter to the guy who put just a geek the audiobook on his website for people to steal
Hi there, guy-who-I-won't-link-to-for-obvious-reasons, I'm Wil Wheaton. I wrote Just A Geek, and I created the audiobook you're helping people steal. You may not know this, but I 'm just one guy, without a publisher, so when you help people steal this copy of Just A Geek by making it available f...
I've just recently discovered Jonathan Coulton and he's awesome.
wil wheaton gets lucky ... sometimes
This was the ultimate highlight of my #PAX 2009, and watching it again just now brought tears to my eyes again. I'm not worthy of something this awesome. Thank you Jonathan, and Paul, and Storm, and Molly for making me feel cool. I <3 you guys.
Sorry to hear this, Wil. I had never cried so much in my life the night my dog died. Loosing a pet really is like loosing a member of your family.
through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
My dog Ferris, who was rescued from a bus stop in Monrovia by my wife Anne almost exactly 8 years ago, had a heart attack and died this morning. It happened very quickly, and I was with her, which is supposed to make me feel better, but at this moment all I can feel is nearly-unbearable sorrow, ...
I second the 'CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' sentiment :)
work in progress ...
I should really tell OpenOffice that Stardate is a word, but now it's kind of amusing to me that it always tells me "UR DOIN IT WRONG!" Coming of Age is as enjoyable to watch as I remember, even though I haven't seen it in at least twenty years. In fact, my only real complaint so far (I've wat...
well, somebody already beat me to the whole 'it's not scotch, it's whisky' thing, so i'll say simply: whisky? blaaaah. how can anyone drink that stuff, the smell is enough to put me off
a little celebration is in order
I bought myself this bottle of Oban when I started my current writing project. I put it on my desk, and looked at it every day from when I started breaking the story, right up until I finished the last bit of rewriting, just a few minutes ago. I'm having just one finger, neat. I'm sure it's t...

After which, you should check out TOMB OF THE CYBERMEN. thats a patrick troughton one from '67, i think. there aren't a lot from the late sixties that have survived intact because the bbc trashed a lot of the films. a shame really, what little i've seen suggests troughton was a fantastic doctor.
genesis of the daleks
I should have finished my script yesterday, but the goddamn sinusitis completely knocked me out. Luckily, used a winning combination of Sudafed, Mucinex, Advil, and sitting on the couch next to a humidifier to prevent this thing from developing into something really nasty, like a Moose Bite. ...

genesis of the daleks is cool and all, but seriously, you should check out THE DALEK INVASION OF EARTH. it was done in 1964, i believe, and takes place in future london when the daleks have...err, invaded earth. It old, the special effects are non-existant and sets are wobbly at best but it kicks all manner of arse. the shot of the dalek emerging from the water gets me every time. plus also they cleaned it up for the dvd release and it looks pretty good for something from the mid sixties.

Court Martial is CRAP. It's surrounded by so many quality episodes in season one, which doesn't help really, but it's so silly it makes ally mcbeal look credible. court dramas are hard to do in 45 mins, so everything is usually rushed. (Mesure of a Man rocks, though)
That's really cool that you explain to your son what the big deal is with star trek and that the ideas inthe show were pretty radical at the time and that the stories had double meanings. i remember my dad doing the same thing with me as i watched TNG as a young child in the early ninties and telling me that a certain character or a story was really a metaphore for something deeper.
Arean was wicked cool, though it is kind of lame now that the guy is in a rubber suit that he can hardly move in. It's pretty cool that Kirk is wrong about the Gorn. They do this in Devil in the Dark to, the way Kirk wants to destroy the Horta and Spock wants to study it, but it turns out that the creature is just protecting it's eggs.
"You are still half savage . . . but there is hope"
I watched a couple episodes of the original Star Trek with Nolan last night, including Court Martial. He's not a big Star Trek fan. He prefers Battlestar Galactica -- he calls it "gangster," which is teenager for "good" -- and Firefly, but he watched it with me anyway. Though he's thankfully g...

Holy shit! I just realised!!!! ANGEL ONE IS NEXT!!!!!!!!1
i am from space and the future
I'm putting the finishing touches on my long-overdue Datalore story for TV Squad. It's taken so long, because it just wasn't coming together the way I wanted it to, and I couldn't figure out why until this morning. I'd written some really funny raps for Picard, but they just didn't fit in with t...
