They probably will.. New liquor licenses aren't really issued regularly. This liquor store is opening because the Bar on the right half of the building (closed) which was open for many years under different names, has a liquor license which supports both a full bar and liquor store. This is actually quite common. So the new owner has decided to build out the liquor store (which the prior owner chose not to do) and can do so with the same license, as it has the same address as the bar on the right half. Later on the owner can open up the bar. Bobcat's Liquors in Deptford, and Cherrywood Liquors in Blackwood are also full licenses that if they wanted to, the could open up bars (at the same address)! Liquor licenses are based on population. one per 3,000 I think. so most town's were allocated their licneses 60+ years ago, and its only if the population has grown, can they get new ones. In some thriving communities like Cherry Hill, this has caused liquor license prices to sell for over a million dollars (from one business to a next). Its also why you see fewer and fewer mom and pop bars in many towns because the big national chains will buy an old bar just to get the liquor license. Deptford for example only really has Nippers left as a "local" pub. Krazy Kat's license was bought for the Red Robin in the Deptford Mall The only times new ones in NJ are issued, is when either then town was "dry" such as Moorestown was up until 5 years ago or so, and they passed a law to allow alcohol and immediately created 4 new licenses. Or if a town grows in population (every 3,000 residents equals a new full license). Mark - 42Freeway.com (I've studied a lot about NJ liquor licenses. Been meaning to blog about it. Maybe this week)

GLOUCESTER CITY NJ (May 12, 2018)--A new liquor store called Bottlestop is opening up very soon in Gloucester City on Rt 130 North. The building is located next to Cheerleaders Bar, and was recently completely remodeled. As you would expect, this a full beverage location offering Beer, Wine and Liquor. This is a larger store, almost similar in size to what you'd expect from a Canal's store. When we stopped in today, it appeared all construction and shelving was complete, and they were just waiting on inventory. Retail/Commercial blog 42Freeway.com is reporting that according to several people who attended a tenants meeting at Gloucester Premium Outlets, management recently told tenants a Dave and Busters Restaurant and Entertainment Arcade Center is being planned for the Blackwood NJ’s Outlets site. The location will be in the land still available around the property (probably along side Route 42, where the Applebee’s was planned). Development is targeted to start very early in 2019 after this year’s holiday shopping season, with a targeted opening for later in 2019. Neither outlet owner Simon Properties or Dave and Buster's have made any public announcements,... Continue reading

The long beloved Geets Diner in Williamstown NJ has reopened for limited hours this week (till 8pm), ahead of their Saturday March 24th Official Grand Opening! Geets Diner and it’s large front sign on the Black Horse Pike and Rt 322 have been a community landmark for decades. People were shocked in August of 2016 when the prior owners abruptly closed. More recently, published reports from last year show that area resident Sandy Cannon purchased the diner, along with partners from the nationally recognized Franklinville Inn. Based on the timing of those articles, the remodeling has taken longer than the... Continue reading

42Freeway.com Mark Matthews Historic in its designation as the “First African American owned golf course in America”, the Freeway Golf Course closed in 2016 and was put up for sale with an asking price of $2.4 million. Well earlier this year in January 2017, the sale of the 150 acre property officially closed for almost half the asking price, at $1.25 million. The buyer was a locally owned property investment company, Black Horse Properties LLC. The property is located at 1858 Sicklerville Road in Gloucester Township, down the road from the popular Villari’s Lakeside Restaurant and Bar. The Freeway Golf... Continue reading

42Freeway.com The official groundbreaking took place earlier in November for a new eatery called Wild Wing Cafe, to be located in Barrington NJ on the White Horse Pike next to the Super Wawa. Wild Wing Cafe is a newer, but growing national full service restaurant with a twist… they feature live entertainment as a key part of the experience, something that is very rare for an eatery of its type. They are currently centered in the Southeast (its first location was in Hilton Head) and the Barrington location is the first in the Northeast. And when I say “full service”,... Continue reading

Mark Matthews 42Freeway.com The Freeway Diner on Deptford’s Route 41 closed 18 months ago with immediate rumors of Starbucks and an auto retailer moving in. And then nothing happened. Well this week, Greg Wisnowski of Equity Retail Brokers has confirmed that Starbucks has signed the lease for a full Starbucks store! There will also be a separate 6,000 square foot building which has a lot of interest from other retailers. Greg says they are targeting a 2017 opening for the Starbucks store. For more information on the new Starbuck's and other local store changes, please read the full article over... Continue reading

Mark Matthews - 42Freeway.com September 19 The August 9th Planning Board Meeting at Gloucester Township included a discussion on adding an Applebee’s to the Gloucester Premium Outlet shopping center, which would be the shopping destinations first restaurant offering alcohol. The new Applebee’s will not be in the main walkable section of the center. There are allocated lots between Route 42 and the shopping center, designated as 2 different lots but able to fit up to 5 buildings, according to documents submitted to the Planning Board. The developer is targeting restaurants, banks, and additional stores. More details at 42Freeway! Related articles... Continue reading

Deptford's popular Filomena Lakeview Restaurant has been going through a transformation this summer, adding an outdoor patio (almost complete), an enlarged kitchen area... and a completely new and enlarged bar area. On the bar side, the owners have built an addition to the building which increases the bar area approximately two and a half times, at least doubles the bar seating and adds additional table seating. We had stopped in several times to over the years to sit at the old bar, and for those familiar with the old set-up, the new bar area is a dramatic change. Open, brighter,... Continue reading

42Freeway Mark Matthews Back in November 2015, the Bellmawr Landfill redevelopers took ownership of the Pennant Rock Club’s liquor license. I see two big takeaways from this: Landfill: Despite many who think nothing is coming to the landfill, this purchase further confirms that the developers are intent on building something… and something more than just warehouses. South Jersey Observer has had several recent updates on the project, including road widening and plans that indicate the developer still has plans for a large multi-use development. Pennant: The deteriorating Pennant Nightclub property will probably never reopen as a bar venue, as the... Continue reading

Earlier this year, several news outlets stated that one of the largest food retailers in the world (and based in Germany) was poised to make its move into the US, and was targeting locations in New Jersey as a key entry point. UPDATE: The map image and text was updated to reflect a more accurate location of the property on Cross-Keys Road. The Gloucester Township Council meeting agenda for April 25, 2016 lists a referendum authorizing the agreement of sale of a portion of the old Erial/Sicklerville Nike Missile base to German Supermarket Chain LIDL. The Nike property is located... Continue reading

Mark Matthews 42Freeway.com Inspira Health Network, more widely known in our area as the owners of Woodbury's Underwood Hospital, has purchased 30 acres of land in Deptford NJ. The undeveloped parcel is located on Clements Bridge Road, across from the shopping center that used to house the Pathmark Supermarket. The transaction closed in January 2016, and the buying company was listed as "Inspira Deptford Healthpark LLC", with an address matching the Inspira Corporate office in Mullica Hill. The larger undeveloped area has been more widely known as the location of the long planned (and delayed) Deptford Movies. The reality is,... Continue reading

This is their second year running this event. Last year the Girl Scouts made just shy of 1,300 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden. 42Freeway Hobby Lobby moves closer into our region, with the opening today (Oct 5) of a new store in Sicklerville NJ, on Cross-Keys Rd. Well, Monday is the official opening date, but those in the know realized that they have been in soft opening mode since Friday, and on a rainy Saturday evening 42Freeway stopped over to the brand new Sicklerville store and checked it out. Head over to 42Freeway for our initial impressions of the store, as well as a few photos from inside. Another store is under construction in Deptford NJ, near the Red Lobster. The second store... Mark Matthews 42Freeway.com Several years ago it was touted as a new state of the art Movie Theater to be located in an area of Deptford NJ along Clements Bridge Rd (across from the closed Pathmark). According to variations of Deptford Township planning documents, those woods were to become Movies, a hotel, a restaurant and more. And then nothing. For two years the project sat. This week a Deptford Movie representatives posted on social media that the delay was because they were approached by a hospital who wanted to buy the property... and the movie theater would develop elsewhere. Mark Matthews Bellmawr's new Aldi Supermarket opens on September 14th! The store is located on the site of the former Bottom Dollar Food store, which was new construction and only in use for a short time before the company closed all locations. The billboard seen in the article photo is located in Brooklawn, next to St Maurice Church, across from the Pennant. This is Shoprite territory, and it seems that Aldi is going right after the big competition by placing the billboard here. Aldi is also opening in Woodbury at another converted Bottom Dollar Food store, and NJ.com says they... Continue reading

Looking at maps, it seems that the intersection of Delsea and 295 is the dividing line between the two towns, although Ryan Ave may start out in Deptford and end in Westville as it seems Westville in that area crosses over 295. So from my perspective that Dunkin Donuts is in Deptford, but I listed Westville as I think many consider it Westville (which I guess is your point! ha) I had friends who used to work back in that little warehouse area to the side of the Dunkin Donuts, and they always called it Westville... but according to maps I look at its Deptford. Good luck!

The Brooklawn Shopping Center surprises everyone with the start of big construction taking place in both the remaining section of K-Mart, and the recently closed Radio Shack location across the parking lot! Our research shows that FOUR new tenants are coming in, including national retailer Petco, Davita Dialysis and a Hope Thrift store! Plus there will still be room for additional store(s) in both locations. Construction is underway, and the Hope Thrift store indicates on their web site that they expect to be open by October of this year. The Bellmawr Super Wawa opened today, Friday June 19th. The Wawa is located on Creek Rd in Bellmawr, on the Northbound side of Route 42, replacing the old Wawa and a Luke Oil. We stopped in within the first 30 minutes of opening today to check the place out, and grabbed 10 photos which are posted over at 42Freeway.com. It is immediately recognizable as a Super Wawa, but this location introduces (to my experience) several changes seemingly geared towards streamlining the customer flow through checkout. Where as the Mt Ephraim Super Wawa was built with the ring of cash registers,... Continue reading

Mark Matthews UPDATE: Bellmawr's Italia Pizza has reopened! More information at 42Freeway.com Every silver lining has a dark cloud. Over in Bellmawr, the long awaited Super Wawa opens this week, and Bellmawr won the Aldi lottery which they hope to see opened this year… But sad news also comes this week as the widely known and loved Italia Pizzeria closed, and the Walgreen’s Store announced that July 8th will be their last day for the Bellmawr location. Both stores sit on the same side of the Black Horse Pike, just a few hundred feet apart. Italia's owner commented on a... Continue reading

The Spread - Mt Ephraim NJ New owners have taken over the ol' Spread Eagle Inn on Kings Highway Mt Ephraim, and instead of simply trying to clean up the local pub, they completely demolished the old tavern down to the basement, and they are building new. I drove by today and the building's outer shell is complete (to the extent of understanding its size and placement). There is one more photo over at 42Freeway.com from the other side, which shows what appears to be an outside patio area with roof. At this time we don't have any information on... Continue reading
